http://www.nesn.com/2011/11/report-peyton-mannings-chances-of-retiring-could-be-better-than-50-percent.html

I'm a Patriots fan but I would hate to see this, I looked forward to playing him every year, and I was looking forward to at least one more game against him. I don't think he retires, but the farther we get into this the more I think he won't be playing in Indy next year.

It makes sense. Why risk coming back for another 1-2 years and ruining his legacy by not playing how he used to? Plus, everyone has seen just how bad the team is without him now. That's probably discouraged him somewhat from coming back.

You think he would ask for a trade?

One of the worst stories I've seen in a long time

Manning did not say anything about retirement, it was the person who interviewed him. All in all this is one of the most unprofessional stories I've seen done in a long time, news should never be what someone guesses could happen.

I do see Luck being taken in the draft and Manning playing somewhere else though

I heard that it was reported that Washington may trade for Manning at the end of the year.

I hope he does retire. ...knees, elbows, shoulders...you can injure them all terribly and still live a 'life' You don't f*** around with the brain (concussions) and neck/back IMO. It is just not worth it. He has money. He has awards. He has a title. He has a plethora of options post football. I realize nothing will replace what he 'gets' from being on the field. But, at least to me, it is not worth the risk. ...even some of the biggest competitors I have ever seen in Michael Irvin and Moose Johnston retired b/c of neck/spinal issues

Possibly, the Colts might want to too. They owe Manning $28M in March, when you consider just how terrible the team is now (they'd be good, playoffs even, but would not be SB contenders this year, even with him) that he's only gonna play 1, 2, 3 seasons tops, and that Andrew Luck will defiantly be drafted in April. Why not trade Manning, go on with Luck, and use those draft picks you get for Peyton to build around Luck? It really works for everyone, the Colts save a lot of money while still having a potential franchise QB. Manning will be able to play for as long as he desires, without having to worry about becoming a lame duck or being benched. Luck gets to start day 1 which he's more than prepared for. And the team that gets Manning will improve drastically, and if it's the right team may even become instant contenders, if Manning is anything close to what he has been.

I was gonna say... news like that would usually end up on ESPN, which it did not.

Manning LOVES football. He lives and breathes it. I think he will come back. The only way he won't is if the doctors/coaches say he can't.

Wasn't he supposed to be back near the end of this season? I haven't heard what progress his neck recovery has made, but could that signify more bad news? With the way they're playing now, and drafting Andrew Luck and possibly getting rid of Caldwell...it could be a good time to retire and let the Colts begin rebuilding.

It would be shocking news if Peyton retired. If he can physically play I don't see him retiring.

Although, if he retired today he would certainly leave the game as one of the dominant quarterbacks of this generation.

I hope that Peyton can come back and continue his dominance, but I just can't see it happening. I grew up in the golden age of Tennessee football going to UT games on saturdays wearing a replica manning jersey so it goes without saying that I am a huge fan, but if he is unable to perform like the Peyton we all know and love, then I hope he retires... to work on UT's staff. I'm pretty sure our quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator slots will be opening after a dismal 7 points on a terrible Kentucky team to finish off our season. And anyway he is worshipped like a god on campus and would greatly help with recruiting I would think. Who wouldn't want to have the greatest pro-style quarterback of all time coach them in college?

Trade him to a contender and Indy drafts Luck. Go the Montana way.

I hope he returns. I seriously though don't think he's returning to the Colts. They are going to trade him for picks.

If he's 100% healthy I think the colts play him and let Luck learn under him. If not, yeah they should get what they can for him.

Like Jaysonguy said, the source was bogus. If it does happen, I don't know what I'd do. As a Colts fan, I owe it to Manning for putting us on the map.
