CP3 should have won it for his on-court play and making everyone around him better, lebron should have won it for having the best individual season of the last decade and b/c his team hasn't won a game without him, KG should have won it for changing the culture of his team and bringing the intensity every night, kobe should have won it because he is the best player in the league and despite everything he says off the court, will always give his team 100% and the team will stay competitive (regardless of the talent level) as long as he's there. One of the tightest MVP races i've seen and could have gone to anyone of those 4. Kobe won it out in the end and deservingly so. End of discussion.

Agreed. I am glad Kobe finally won one. It's hard to believe he's been doing what he does for so long and just now got MVP.

Indeed. Kobe should have had this award three years ago, though, in the 35 PPG season. Instead they give it to Nash and Kobe finishes fourth in voting. FOURTH! After accomplishing something (35 PPG) that's only been done by 4 other players EVER.
Ridiculous. I'm glad Kobe won it because he deserved it those years ago. I'd like to quote Larry Bird, who said he would give all his NBA MVP awards back if Kobe didn't win it this season.
It is close and i say without Kobe the Lakers are nothing. X360PS3AMD05
They would be in a lot better of a position then some other teams. They would still have Odom and Gasol, along with Bynum and Fisher. He has a good team.
Sure Kobe will get the MVP trophy, but if Chris Paul keeps carving up the NBA Champion Spurs and knocks them out with ease then a lot of people will end scratching their heads wondering how Paul didn't get the award. I keep thinking back about last season and where the Hornets were this time last year? Oh yeah, they didn't even come close to making the playoffs. Now here they are kicking good team's a$$es up and down the court.
People can argue this topic until next year and it all comes down to are you Pro Kobe, or Pro CP3. Each are All-stars, MVP material, best at their positions, and both will give it their all in the playoffs.
Kobe only got the MVP becuase it's been missing on his resume for so long. He may have been robbed of an MVP three years ago, but that doesn't mean Chris Paul should be robbed of his this year. I guarentee you that if Kobe had already won one before, he wouldn't even be in the MVP discussion. When you look at both individual stats and team results, Chris Paul had a better year, hands down. He's the first player since Magic Johnson to average at least 21 points and 11 assists, and he led a team of underachievers to just one game out of the top seed in a powerhouse Western Conference.
All these arguments for Kobe are nonsense. I keep hearing how he's become such a great team player, but that means absolutely nothing when the other MVP candidate is leading the league in assists. It's also ridiculous when people say Kobe is deserving because his team is the top seed. This is a year when the one seed and the sixth seed are seperated by just two games, so that point is also moot. The MVP is a single season award, and by that criteria Kobe is not more deserving than Chris Paul.
I was actually just going to make a topic about Chris Paul because every game I've seen from him in the playoffs has been amazing. I can argue all day who should be the mvp, both players are very deserving though but I think getting that ring is much more important to both superstars then winning mvpandyboiiiAll Kobe cares about is himself.
They both deserved it. It was a coin flip, Kobe won out due to his career and never havign won one.
CP3 will win it next year if he does this again.Just_Osmo
no, it's not a coin flip. Kobe got more than 60% of the first place votes so it's obvious that the voters had made up with their mind whom to choose. also, it's not the sympathy award that you and many others claim it to be. the world's deadliest SG and the ultimate go-to guy in the league fully deserves the mvp, Chris Paul or no Chris Paul - and this is coming from a CP3 fan in the making.

You make a decent argument, but to say Kobe wouldn't even be the discussion for MVP is lying to yourself. Kobe is the best player in the NBA. He will always be in the MVP discussion as long as he's playiing like he has been.
How about KG last night carrying the Celtics over the Cavs. I think he was making a statement last night. LJ had the chance to step up in the end but couldn't finish his shot.
Actually, Gasol made the whole team better or else they would have been at the #7 or #8 seed.Lostboy1224
Flop. The Lakers were in 3rd place in the Western Conference when they aquired Pau. They had also been first in the conference before when Bynum was healthy.

No one is doubting that they need him to win the title. But you said they would be a 7 o 8 seed without Pau and that's simply not true. The Lakers were in 3rd place in the west when they aquired Pau, it's not likely they would have lid all the way to the 8 spot.
I can't buy anybody that says Kobe earned it because of how he played this season. IMO, this is the writers giving Kobe the MVP award he should've won last year or the year before, and that though Kobe is only 30ish, the torch is being quickly passed to the younger generation. The LeBrons, Dwight Howards, Chris Pauls, and Deron Williams of the NBA are going to be winning the MVPs very soon and Kobe will just be starting the downslope of his career as the other guys are just entering their prime.
That said, it should've been CP3. I mean if Nash can win with 18ppg 10assists and 60 something steals the whole season, then surely CP3 could with with 21ppg, 11assists a game and 217 steals.
Guess CP will just bring it harder by locking in from 3 point land and staying the course elswhere.
it seems like Kobe scores over 35 points in every game he plays, and I don't see Chris Paul doin that. Plus, Chris didn't jump over a moving aston martin either:Dmohfrontline
I know you were joking with your second point, but i'll assume you were joking with your first point too. Because if you really believe what you are saying you know nothing about basketball and the positions certain players have and what is asked of you from that position.
Except the MVP has more to do with things that don't show up in the box score.I can't buy anybody that says Kobe earned it because of how he played this season. Like say, taking a team that was supposed to be fourth at best in it's division into division champs? Like say, being the main reason David West is a All-Star? Or that Tyson Chandler shot such a high percentage because of CP3's lobs?
Yeah, those things that have to do with the MVP that don't show up on the box score, CP3 has them too.
in my opinion there is no way you can deny Chris Paul being the MVP. This is nothing against Kobe and his year because he had a great year too (turmoil in the begining of the season, Bynum going down, best record in west, etc.), and i am fully aware of that, but i've watched enough basketball this year and now in the playoffs, Chris Paul has made a ROSTER FULL of outcast players who were either busts (Tyson Chandler), past their prime (Peja and Mo Pete), as well as making an All star out of David West, and making them look like legit title contenders. Now i'm not saying he's better than Kobe, or they will beat the Lakers if they played, but by the true definition of most VALUABLE, there is NOBODY in this league that does more for his team and has the results that Paul does. Even the great Kobe doesn't disect great defenses like the Spurs the way Paul has done. I'm prepared to take heat for this since there is all these people on this board that think Kobe is god, but if you take your fan glasses off and look at it objectively, it's not close IMO. Just my 2 cents. Flame awaysixringz1
If Chris Paul is your MVP then this year Chris Paul was the MVP. You decide who the MVP is not these dumb Journalist who probably never even touched a ball. The awards are dumb and voted on by who and who are they to say your judgement is wrong. Nobody picks the MVP but you. Say why you picked him and thats it.
In the MVP race KB24 and CP3 are tied the tiebreaker was who came 1st the West and Kobe came first thus he wonEPaul
They both won because they elevated themselves and their teams to a new level. My MVP for 2007/2008 is Chris Paul. What the NBA says doesnt matter to me because my opinion is more important than their and they cant change even with an award ceremony.
sixringz1 I totally agree! You're preaching to the choir with me but I'm sure all the Kobe fans will spurn you, me and anyone else who thinks CP3 should have won because they're delusional on what MVP really means. The bright lights of Hollywood will do that to you. I'm not denying that Kobe has had a pretty darn good year but you hit it square on the head, He's taken a cast of outcasts, a team that was sub .500 to the second round of the playoffs. Without Kobe, Lakers still have a fighting chance. The Hornets without CP3 are done and on the next flight home to spend with their families in the off season.wornstar
Also NO won the toughest division that produced 4 playoff teams with 51 or more wins and still got second in the west. Lakers would not be at the top without Gasol, Lakers would not be in the second round without Gasol(not that they wouldnt of beat denver, but they would of played a harder team like the Spurs or Jazz(but no Gasol)). Kobe and Paul did the most for their teams but I gave the edge to Paul and that is how I got my MVP.

Love how people congratulate Kobe, call him a great team player and give him a pat on the back when around October he was cursing the team, wanting a trade out of there and just being a fool. But wait, he gets Gasol, they win and make it to the playoffs and he's a hero. O the hypocrisy.
It's Paul's MVP, can't give it to a guy who bailed on his team and threw them under the bus on several occasions.

MVP is decided by what you do on the court buddy, btw he put everything behind him once the season started and lead his team to 1st at one point in the tough Western Conference and that was with Kwame Brown still on the team BEFORE the Gasol trade. And people like you always bring up Gasol but what about CP3s teammates. I'm sure kobe would love to have David West on his team (scored 39 points last night), Chandler a rebounding machine and good defensive player, and Peja who is money from the arc. I'm not saying his team is better but they are about equally the same and i'm sure Kobe would do just as well if they switched places

Why do people keep saying that it's something he hasn't had so there just gonna give it to him this year cause they feel sorry for him? Yes he had a 35PPG season but the team also finished 7th in the conference back to back seasons and didn't even make the playoffs one year. Kobe and the Lakers finished on top of a very tough western conference with all the injuries they had this year. Bynum and Ariza out for the season, Odom and Luke out a few games and Gasol's ankle injury that kept him out of about 8 games, all this and still finished first. And the whole Kobe being a team player and having less assists is BS, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett are team players and both have won an MVP but there not the type of players to average 7+ assists in a game due to their position. People call Kobe a ballhog when he averages the same amount of assits as Michael Jordan yet MJ is never criticized for his assist number. Yes Kobe is a 2 guard but on most teams your PG is the one that will usually average more assists, depending on the PG. And your comment about a team of underachievers, David West was an all star this year and Chandler has always been a defensive threat even in Chicago. Peja is a playoff veteran and knows how to play no matter where he is. Paul may give all these players more looks but that's his role and that's what he should be doing.

I know Paul has a good team around him, but now, so does Kobe, Odom and Gasol. You can't sit here and say he's an MVP when he **** and moan about how there was no one around to help him and be supporting players. That does matter because part of being an MVP is having sportsmanship, class, and not complaining when you don't get your way which obviosuly is a lost art to Kobe
