I think he would also. I also think he was just being nice about saying Lebran is better in other parts of his game.

Who? Oh I see, you spelled Lebron wrong.

What's so fraudulent about him?

I'm sensing this is about Kobe daring Lebran and the Heat to make it to the finals next year so he can stomp them chumps for his second 3peat.

Kobe has so many offensive moves he'd school lebron easily. Lebron has strength and speed but Kobe has the better skill set, foot work, fadeaway jumper, mid range jumper and so on. People say well Lebron could just drive in all game one on and one and it'd be game over for kobe, naw sonny it doesn't work like that against a superior defender with Kobe who will make you work for all your points. if it was the last point in the game against each other who would you take? who would be hungrier? it's simple really

Kobe would destroy him. His offensive skill set destroys LeBrons. LeBron may be bigger, but in a game of one on one if you get fouled going to the hoop it's just your ball top of the key. Do you honestly think Kobe would let him go to the hole all game? Kobe would win for the simple fact that his game is better offensively and he's also great defensively and has a little something called a killer instinct. LeBron isn't mean enough to win a game of one on one with Kobe

They should get rid of the dunk contest at the All Star game and have a 1 on 1 tournament instead. That would be so epic, but I bet none of the superstars would participate.

I'm not sure I understand how this is newsworthy? Kobe has always believed he can beat anyone who is willing to face him down. He has always proudly stated that he'll take on and win against everyone else, and since Lebron is in that group, Kobe believes he can win against him. This shouldn't surprise anyone who has followed the NBA, the Lakers, or Kobe, for any stretch of time.

You guys make it sound like the gap between Kobe and Lebron is the size of the Grand Canyon. I don't think the gap is that big, if there even is one.

Lebron would win no doubt.bobcheeseball

As mentioned by other posters, the only significant advantage Lebron has over Kobe is strength. In a one on one situation, where Lebron won't have teammates to set picks for him, Kobe will be able to lock into him defensively. He'll have to work hard for every single point, and would have to rely on his (shaky) jumper. Kobe on the other hand, has the most complete offensive repertoire in the NBA and has scored on guys who are much better defenders than Lebron. I'm confident Kobe would win one on one.

did you see the part where kobe compared lebron to magic?

remember in the wade discussion we had.. i said lebron will be like magic and wade will be worthy... you said not to even compare lebron to magic?

lolz... who knows more about basketball now?

Kobe is much more complete player than LeBron James. LeBron James cannot lock down an opponent on defense. He simply isn't that good of a defender if not for those Chase Down blocks (which are sometimes impressive, I admit). But even Dwyane Wade (who is 5 inches smaller) has more blocks per game than LeBron.

LeBron has speed and strength going for him, Kobe has everything else : jump shots, post-up, defense, creativity, smarts, etc.

It would be an easy win, score-wise, but not that easy on the actual court.

The real matchup for perimeter players would be Wade against Kobe. Now THAT would be more interesting.

And a sheer beauty to watch... Now you made me drool. And you also mentioned the one reason I've watched every single Heat-Lakers game in the past, and will continue to do so. Especially now that I might get to see Ron Artest take on Lebron... I'm curious on the outcome.

(And please, don't use FG% as your reasoning as to why Lebron's better shooter than Kobe, when you know damn well that the majority of his points come from driving into the paint. He's always had a mediorcre to average jump shot. He can get hot at times, which is why I referred to his jumper as "shaky", but he's not a consistent jumpshooting threat like Kobe)

What're you smoking, better shooter?? No way, not even close. LeBron has always been criticized for his jumper. It's basically common knowledge that his jumper is one of the weaker parts of his game. Kobe has one of the best jumpers in the league and he regularly knocks them down through double and sometimes even triple teams.

LOL

When I said don't use FG%, I meant overall percentage, since the majority of Lebron's points are from 10 feet and under, which doesn't dispay his jumpshooting ability. But hey if you want me to use FG% then fine:

Lebron's FG% from 10-15 feet: 32.2 % ( )

Kobe's FG % from 10-15 feet: 49.7%

Lebron's FG% from 16-23 feet: 40%

Kobe's FG% from 16-23 feet: 41%

Their eFG% from 3 is virtually identical, which is impressive on Kobe's part, since he was playing with a fractured finger, a hurt knee and a sore ankle. I guess you overlooked that right?

And wow, did you really say Kobe isn't a consistent jump shooter?

Your basketball credibility = lost.

P.S.: Funny how you overlooked the percentages when you made your post, and went straight to total points scored from a certain distance. It's especially funny because Kobe MISSED a handful of games, and his total wasn't even that much less than Lebron's.

LOL cmon man using injuries as excuses his "fractured finger" all it is a jammed finger missed games fractured finger, hurt knee, sore ankle sounds like he is Shaq or a very old man.Maybe he should retire but o wait he can't because his winning championships because of his teamates who make up for his INCONSISTENT shooting.6-24 worst finals mvp perfomance EVER.Yes most of lebron's points come from the paint but thats because he has incredible strength and endurance+athleticism as good as mj if not better something KOBE doesn't have.I can't believe you think kobe bryant isn't INCONSISTENT. He leads the league in missed shots and averged,on top of that he is on track to having the most missed shots in nba history real CONSISTENT huh.Shoots more than lebron and gets less than lebron.I find it funny that most of lebrons points come from the paint but he still he gets more points from outside shooting than kobe.If lebron james shot as much as kobe bryant he would score more points CONSISTENTLY than kobe thats why lebron james is a better shooter and why kobe is INCONSISTENT.

Lebron has two MVP awards. Kobe has 5 NBA Champioship rings. Sure, Lebron is the best... Riiiight. (heavy sarcasm, in case you missed it) In the end, when they're done, that's what will count. And Lebron wont' have it, or if he does, it will be thanks to Dwayne Wade, the only member of Holy Heat Trinity who has managed to win a championship on his own.

Has lebron had a supporting cast like kobe NEVER kobe has gotten the best center the best power forward and role players who show up in the playoffs. On top of that he has Phil Jackson who coached Micheal Jordan.Whats lebrons best coach Mike brown the coach who cant formulate an offensive gamplan without lebron'sconsistent playbut i bet phil could.Give lebrons kobe supporting cast and he would have the same if not more amount of kobe's rings.Lebron joined wade in south beach because he is HUNGRY for a championships he is tired of his teamates no being there for him when kobe had the worst finals mvp perfomance EVER he won,he is tired of putting up great numbers and not have anything on his ring to show for it.He sacrificed money, fame, and his favorite nba franchise of all time because all he wanted was rings.Lebron james at the age of 22 led a team with daniel gibson drew gooden zydranus larry hughes (terrible supporting cast compared to all the teams who have won championships) to the NBA FINALS something Micheal Jordan or Kobe Bryant never did.

Kobe shot 21.5 shots per game last year, not 19.3, and Lebron shot 20.1.

http://www.nba.com/statistics/player/FieldGS.jsp?league=00&season=22009&conf=OVERALL&position=0&splitType=9&qualified=N&yearsExp=-1&sortOrder=3&splitDD=All Teams

May need to sort. Not sure where you got those numbers.

Nah, Kobe doesn't quit and also doesn't have mysterious "elbow injuries" that even doctors can't diagnose. Kobe is an overall better player than LeBron and would probably school him one-on-one. LeBron has the power, but he can't shoot and or play better D.

Maybe Kobe has certain intangibles, or leadership qualities that Lebron lacks, but from a pure basketball point of view, I don't think there's much of a gap.

Lebron gets more steals, more rebounds, and more blocks. He scores more points. He has a better field goal percentage. He has a better 3-point percentage, while shooting more 3's per game.

Even using advanced basketball metrics, Lebron outclasses Kobe in almost every category. Lebron's True Shooting Percentage is .604, while Kobe's is .545. So yes, Lebron WAS the better shooter. Player Efficiency rating, which is a measure of a player's production on a per-minute basis has Kobe at 21.9, with Lebron at an unbelievable 31.1. Defensive metrics judge the players at equal value, with Kobe given a slight edge.

Now I'm not saying Lebron would win outright, everytime. Kobe could very possibly beat him. But I don't understand some of the statements in this thread to the effect that Kobe is head and shoulders better, and would dominate Lebron. It's simply not true.

I'd rather watch Kobe vs Durant. Those are two guys that have the offensive skill set to go toe to toe. I'll throw Melo in the mix too because he seems like a pretty good one on one player that can hang with those two

How is Lebron not a good defender? I know Kobe fans hate using stats (for pretty obvious reasons lol) but to act like LBJ can't play defense is ridiculous, He's a strong guy, can steal and block, a great rebounder, and shuts down Danny Granger (an extremely skilled offensive player) routinely. So many haters here lol. I'm waiting for Kobe fans to bring out the rings argument now :P

I never said he wasn't a good defender. I said he was an overrated defender, which is true. He still gets beat way too often and his chasedown blocks and steals totals trick people into thinking he's some kind of all world defensive player. He's not.

I already did, on the previous page :P I'm not saying Lebron isn't good. Lebron is one of the best in the world. But so is Kobe, and Kobe has been doing it longer. Age and experience tends to trump youth and talent, especially when said youth has been relying on his athleticism, rather than on developing the skill side of his game. I think Kobe would win, just like I thought the Lakers would beat the Celtics in the finals last year. And they did, eventually... after a very close 7-game series.

I won't get in on the debate, all I'll say is this guy below is The Best/Most Complete basketball player I've ever seen (especially on offense).

Seriously, Kobe is ridiculously talented.
