In unrelated news the AFC South title just won by the Texans... and a ton of fantasy owners just lost their league before a game is played

Drafted Peyton as my back up in my league, was hoping he would be better by week 6. But this doesn't look like its gonna happen.

Whoever drafted P.Manning better have also taken a QB like J.Freeman or M.Stafford. Otherwise their season could be in huge trouble.

I think I'll pick up Colt McCoy, need a QB for week 6.

I can chose McCoy, Hasselbeck, Alex Smith, Grossman, Fitzpatrick, Collins, Campbell, McCown, Dalton, Henne or T.J.

McCoy sounds like the best choice.

This sucks, i'm a Patriots fan but I respect Manning as much as anyone in the league. That being said,i'm not shocked at all to be honest. All the news in the past few weeks hascontinuously suggested that this could be a real possibility. Perhaps most obviouslywas how shaky and unclear his recovery timetable has been. Back when the surgery was performed the time table 6-8 weeks which would place him in the regular season with weeks to spare. Then it went on and by the beginning of training camp the timetable had been moved back to him being healthy right up against the start of the season. Then came news last week he'd be doubtful for week one, and seemingly everyday his week has brought new information suggesting that this cold linger. You could also look back to last week and see the red flags. Like getting multiple 'second'opinions, which isn't something you generally do if you're told you should be okay, in sports, and in real life. It'd be like getting a second opinion if a Doctor told you your cancer was treatable, or a pitcher going for a second opinion after being told he doesn't need Tommy John Surgery. It's just not a normal thing to do. Also, in what I thought was a very important yet under reported piece of news last week, his arm strength was described as having plateaued (and anywhere close to a healthy level), which to me, sounds like something that just doesn't miraculouslyjust heals quickly if given time.

personally the colts should take one of two paths a) trade for carson palmer or sign garrard over having that crap kerry collins start b) tank the season and hope you get the no 1 overall pick and draft the future of the team in andrew luck

He already has dealt with a 4 1/2-month lockout that prevented him from working out with team trainers after his May 23 surgery to repair a nerve. I say it does, I say if he gets to workout with the team trainers maybe Peyton Manning is starting this Sunday.

"Shortly after ESPN first reported the surgery, team officials confirmed that Manning had an anterior fusion procedure to treat the nerve problem that was continuing to give him trouble."

Well there goes my fantasy team. :(

That's the last time I join a draft during the 1st week of preseason.

Anyways the Texans should be able to win that division.

He obviously would have had to have the surgery anyways since he's having it now. Working with team trainers wouldn't have changed that. Again, nothing to do with it.

Several veterns NFL players, and future HOFers, disagree with you. Working with NFL team trainers is said to cut recovery time significantly.

Probably, but do they know Peyton Manning as well? No. Trusting a trainer can mean a world of difference, and literally can be the difference between "back in a month or two" and "May miss the entire season"

If the Texans can't make the playoffs this season, the NFL needs to revoke their franchise and hand it over to L.A. .

The Colts rode the gravy train for so many years and never bothered to find Manning's replacement. Now they're going to pay the price in a throw away season. Someone already hinted at it, CONSPIRACY TIME! It's a plot to draft Andrew Luck by tanking this season.

What other city would work? No, not London. The maintenance costs would be uneconomical. It would have to be L.A. The NFL gave Jacksonville a chance and it's a failing franchise.

Dallas couldn't hold their team, and got another chance. Houston couldn't hold their team, and got another chance. Cleveland couldn't hold their team, and got another chance. Baltimore couldn't hold their team, and got another chance. Oakland couldn't hold their team, and got another chance. St. Louis couldn't hold their team, and got another chance. Putting an NFL team in London would be like putting an EPL team in New York. The games would probably sell out due to the sheer size of the population, but, all and all even amongst sports fans there'd be a large feeling of apathy towards the team.

We have an AHL team, a NBA farm team, and AA team here. We are just missing a football team.

The Colts rode the gravy train for so many years and never bothered to find Manning's replacement. Now they're going to pay the price in a throw away season. Someone already hinted at it, CONSPIRACY TIME! It's a plot to draft Andrew Luck by tanking this season.

Or at the very least... they never drafted a decent QB as his backup in case a serious injury happened. Their back up QB's have been garbage. If you look at what the Eagles and Pats did over the last few years it's a model more teams should follow. They drafted good QB's to be the backups to guys like Brady and McNabb/Vick. Kevin Kolb with Philly and Matt Cassel with the Pats.

Both stepped in and played well when the #1 QB's got hurt and were a great safety blanket. And of course a team like the Pats has Brady so they can trade a guy like Cassel before he can leave as a FA and get some nice draft picks back. The Eagles got a nice package back for Kolb too. It makes sense to get a solid backup in case of injury... and if you already have a star QB for years to come still... you eventually make a deal before their contracts up and trade him for good draft picks.

Well they have a lot invested in him so I see no problem if he misses the entire season. This is a really serious surgery so there's no sense at all in risking his career and more importantly his long term health. Really, with something to this extent I wouldn't blame him if he retired and went into broadcasting (which he probably will or at least will have no problem doing due to his likable personality). Now, I see him playing at least 1 more season, but it would be completely understandable if he decided to retire as Warner did due to concussions I believe. I do hope he heals up properly for next season since he's one of my favorite QBs in the league.
