Sports is certainly more entertaining with rivalries. Yankees/RedSox, Duke/Carolina, Cowboys/Giants, and so on. In the last ten years the media seems to try and build rivalries out of want instead of actual facts. Such as the Nash's Suns vs. Dirk's Mavericks. That was just built for the sake of ratings and not factual turmoil or animosity between teams. Nash and Dirk were best of friends and both teams were more worried about the Spurs then each other.

So my question to you is which rivalries are getting stale as the media tries to keep them alive, and which rivalries are building to be great and lasting?

Oh, and just because two teams are in the same state doesn't automatically qualify if one team dominates the other 9/10 times.

Heating Up: BCS vs. Non-BCS schools (Boise State, Utah, BYU and TCU) Lakers vs. Celtics Kobe vs. Lebron Declining: Red Sox vs. Yankees - Because so few people who aren't already fans of that incestuous little club care anymore Anything pro football - Because of rising parity. Makes it hard to see something like the 49ers vs. Cowboys rivalry of days past Anything golf - Because Tiger is in a class by himself

The ones that are declining IMO are:

  • Steelers-Raiders
  • 49ers-Cowboys
  • Browns-Steelers
  • Suns-Spurs
  • Broncoes-Chargers (No more Phillips vs Cutler)

The ones heating up:

  • Celtics-Lakers
  • Magic-Cavs
  • The NFC East (all the teams in the last two years have been competitive)
  • Steelers-Ravens

I would say that Florida-FSU-Miami has cooled down and Tennesee-Florida is going to heat up.

In the Big 10 Michigan-Ohio State could lose meaning with Rodriguez doing all he can to destroy the program.

For Cowboys and Eagles fans at least. I don't like the Giants and Skins but I absolutely hate the Eagles. I think Eagles fans feel the exact same way against the Cowboys. The Cowboys vs Giants, and Cowboys vs Skins aren't as important anymore.

Heating up -

  • Steelers / Titans - Tennessee's recent upswingand the stomping of the terrible towel. This upcoming year should be really interesting.
  • Pens / Caps - bad blood between the star players, they finally met in the playoffs this past year. Pens vs. Caps is the hottest ticket in the NHL.

The Cowboys vs Eagles one will prolly die down now with T.O. not being on either team...him being on the Cowboys took it to another level...like I always want to beat the Cowboys, but I DAMN sure didn't want to lose to T.O....no one else on the Cowboys can cause that type of hate imo. Though I do enjoy watching Romo fail...

sadly this. they both need to be playoff level teams and need another big brawl to reboot this rivalry. but on the sens, once heatley is gone, his new team will be part of the most hated team list (unless we get some great players in return)

What arguments do you have? We haven't made the playoffs and you have the past few years, who cares. All your arguments fail in comparison to actually winning a Super Bowl.

my arguments make sense. Were arguing who has the better team and the Eagles proved they are the better team. Obviously the Cowboys have been the better franchise but being the better franchise hasnt helped them the last 15 years and being the better franchise has never been the debate so you pointing out ring has made no point ever.

How have you proven who the better team is? Are you living off last year? Your saying without T.O. its gonna be a blowout, yeah its pretty obvious you guys are so much better based on that homer statement. Tell me Nostradamus how many times has your magic ball told you that the Egals were gonna win the Superbowl? Season hasent even started and already you Egal fans are setting up for failure.

- All the top teams in the BPL. Seeing Chelsea/Man U/Arsenal/Liverpool against each other is always amazing. That game, i think it was Pool vs Arsenal where it was a 4-4 draw and Arshavin scored 4 goals comes to mind. I agree with the guy who said Titans Vs Steelers. We aint in the same division anymore but we are two of the top 4 teams in the AFC so there is still animousity between the two teams Colts vs Titans as well.

I can only think of one declining and that's the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators. It's always been the Battle of Ontario, they faced each other so much in the playoffs and things always got heated and interesting between the two teams. But last year, they both missed the playoffs and neither team did much to make themselves better. Leafs got tougher, and will play hard against Ottawa this year, but that really doesn't matter because neither team will be playing for much and one or both will miss the playoffs again. It was so much fun watching them when they were great but now they're only playing for either number 8 spot (if they're lucky) or for close to last in the east. One that is heating up is Pittsburgh and Washington, as things got more heated in the playoffs, and Crosby and Ovie will be facing each other MANY more times, as they are still both very young. So that rivalry could be even more fun to watch in the coming years.
