This is really hilarious, you've got to check it out. ESPN.com's DJ Gallo came up with a list of 10 things you must do to prepare yourself for the bandwagon jump.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=gallo/080620

My favorite is #4: create a connection. I'd say about 50% of GSers are guilty of this one (you know who you are).

'"What?! I have been a fan since I was a kid. You see, it all began when ... ." And then you throw in some concocted story about loving the team since before you even escaped the womb.'

yah its a pretty funny and pathetic at the same time, every team consists of "fans" like these, if a team doesnt...it will

i usually dont care if someones a fan of a team thats no where near their state but im always curious as to why and how there fans of that team, its like no matter what they say will never makes sense to me

It was next to impossible for me to attend any Mariner games during the 2001 season (the year they won 116). Bandwagoners took all the seats. Not everyone was happy.

but wouldn't a real fan have gotten those seats already? And really, it's a business, the only thing that matters to the team is filled seats and not about the customer who didn't get his ticket. :)

I definitely have, but then again I've never had to worry about not liking that 10 years down the line. My Jackie Robinson throwback was over $100, as was my authentic home Dodgers' jersey. But those are investments, as I've been wearing them for years.

Yeah I've thought about getting a jersey or something like that from time to time but I'd likely put "fan" on it for the name or something.

#4-HAHAA!!! Pilgrims!

We've all seen it. Boston seems to be crawling with them and for some reason, them 'beantowners' even show up out here, the city by the bay, in droves. But I can't hate on people who find a winning team exciting to watch and want to be a part of that experience. But what irks me are those that don't take the time to even find out about the team they're rooting for. I don't get it. You can't be a FAN if you don't even know whose Jersey you're wearing. You know who you are!

It was great to see the Warrior's Oracle Arena selling out every night, because for 12 long years it was a pretty dismal sight before the resurgence. You could go to any game in the Bay Area and pretty much see it clear out before the end. When Pac Bell, (now AT&T), first opened and 'til this day, I see "fans" on the phone, texting, on laptops, and even "Fan" interference. I can't stand it. Learn about the sport stupid, then pay attention, and stay out of the way! Don't block my sight while the batter's up or when the ball is in play, wait til the stop in action then take your soda & hot dog holding arse to your seat and say excuse me. Sorry, maybe a lil too rough on 'em. Have FUN BE A FAN!

Don't the ushers do anything?

Up here the Ushers are ... well I think they studied at some sort of military school. I think it is great. They enforce the rules about when to move and when not to consistently.

I do remember when the As were playing the Twins in the MLB playoffs a while back. We were watching on TV at work during a day game absolutely baffled as to why the A's weren't sold out, while playoff tickets here are gobbled up immediately.

I guess I'm always sitting in a section where the ushers are on break, don't care, or are too old to stop the annoying bandwagoneers fromm running amuck! Yeah the A's have that problem no matter what part of the season. It's the stadium that Al Davis built and is a poor fit for baseball.

Not every stadium has that stupid rule that makes the ushers stop you until there is a break in the action. I think the rule is ridiculous b/c, sure, the batter isn't up as you're making your way down the aisle, but pitches are being thrown by the time you get to your seats.

Apparently ushers at Dodger Stadium don't feel the need to babysit us fans, but at Staples Center and Petco Park (San Diego) they do. It's such a dumb rule.

I hate Seat Nazis. I mean ushers. At Wrigley, sometimes late in a blowout game when half the park has left, they still won't let people move down to the closer sections. I know technically people aren't supposed to move down, but come on. When half the stadium is empty, who cares.

seriously though. I went to a lakers nuggets game and before the game about 45 minutes before tip off they wouldn't even let me go down to the lower level just to take a few pictures while the team was warming up. they let me take the picture right by the usher near the tunnel, it's so dumb. most baseball games I go to let all the kids and everyone else go down near the bleachers and lower levels to take pictures while they have batting practice but some places like you said petco park especially has some pretty serious ushers that won't let you go down to a lower level even when you have the fans that have already left the ballpark at night when the game is almost over

It's funny to hear talk about bandwagon fans taking up seats, the Pirates couldn't attract bandwagon fans if they wanted to. Although the Pens did have a ton of bandwagoners during the playoffs they didn't take up the seats because Pit had 100.7% attendance throughout the regular season and those weren't bandwagoners. Although the 4000 people who watched the JumboTron outside the stadium probably had some.

Some people don't like spending $100 on clothes. Unless it's autographed, I won't spend $100 on a jersey. I can buy at least 2 pairs of shirt-pants with it. $120 for an authentic Eli Manning jersey. Great, now what do I do with it? Wear it and walk around showing everybody I'm a Giants fan? I don't care if they know. I know I'm a Giants fan. Why spend $100+ to show everybody I'm a fan of some team?

I wanted to buy the Giants SB collection though, but didn't have the money back then.

That depends. Will you just be "rooting" for them, or will you consider yourself a fan? When my team is out I always pick a team that I would prefer to win (usually the underdog), but in no way do I consider myself a fan of that team. There's a difference.

I only wear my jerseys to the games. But I go to so many games a year that I get plenty of use out of them. I guess it makes sense that you don't buy Rockets or Mariners jerseys b/c you obviously can never to to the games. ;)

I don't buy it for the Giants either b/c I don't like spending more than $30-40 on casual clothes. It's pretty much impossible to get some reasonably priced Giants game, that could be another reason.

I did get an Ichiro jersey as a gift and wearing it to the Mets game on the 23rd.

I personally havne't spent over $100 on sports stuff, but if I add up jerseys from my parents gave me for my birthday/xmas, I would say...$300. Two Steelers jerseys and a Malkin, that'll do it. I probably have about ten Steelers shirts, a Pirates shirt, two pens shirts (those are just t-shirts, nothing fancy). And a hat for each team. Oh and two Terrible Towels.

Haha, that was great. I feel like I should print it out and put it on the windshields of all the schmucks' cars that have Yankees AND Cowboys bumper stickers (in Pennsylvania). :P

Celtics has alot of bandwagon fans I went to a Celtics game last year and you could probably hear crickets, this year you can't find a ticket and everybody is a die-hard all of a sudden. I'm a die-hard Knicks fan and no matter how bad we are we always sellout, and we talk all the trash in the world about our team but we stay 100% loyal to them. I hate spineless fans.

I definitely have, but then again I've never had to worry about not liking that 10 years down the line. My Jackie Robinson throwback was over $100, as was my authentic home Dodgers' jersey. But those are investments, as I've been wearing them for years.

I hope they're playing the Mariners. :|

It would be stupid to wear it otherwise.

Felix Hernandez grand slam. Awesome to watch.

Being a bandwagon fan isn't the worst thing in the world. I was a bandwagon Yankee fan in the late 90's, but I switched to the Mets after the Yankees beat the Mets in the 2000 World Series. Now I own over $1,000 worth of Mets clothes and memorabilia. I wouldn't consider myself a bandwagon fan anymore, but I certainly did start out as one.
