Being a bandwagon fan isn't the worst thing in the world. I was a bandwagon Yankee fan in the late 90's, but I switched to the Mets after the Yankees beat the Mets in the 2000 World Series. Now I own over $1,000 worth of Mets clothes and memorabilia. I wouldn't consider myself a bandwagon fan anymore, but I certainly did start out as one.metswonin69
Everyone has been a bandwagon fan at one time or another, as much as some people would like to think otherwise.

I don't know why people continue to say that; it just isn't true. Is that something bandwagon fans tells themselves so they can sleep at night?

Never done it. Rooting for the Rays like hell though. An exciting, young team that's been beaten up since it's expansion. How can you not?

Yeah, I have to agree there. But usually when people say they're "rooting" for a team, its the same as, "yeah I'm pulling for them". Especially in the AL East when its always Boston and NY that come out on top there.

That depends. Will you just be "rooting" for them, or will you consider yourself a fan? When my team is out I always pick a team that I would prefer to win (usually the underdog), but in no way do I consider myself a fan of that team. There's a difference.

I'm doing the same thing you do. But of course only I'm bandwagoning.

I stick by my teams as much as the next guy. But of course I was rooting for the Patriots for instance, they were going to do something that had not happened in 30 years. Everyone has rooted for another team at one time or another. Maybe not pretend to be a fan, but everyone has at least rooted for a different team.

There's a HUGE difference. You said you're "rooting for the Rays like hell". I certainly hope the Rays hold onto the division, but it's not the same as what you're doing. I think it's in the degree.

10. Get a car flag

 Amazing how true that one is. Nobody rocked Hornets or Saints gear before their winning seasons. I don't even have a car flag and I've repped the Saints and Hornets for a long, long time. Not quite from the womb, though.

Call it what you will, but I'm being sincere. "Rooting like hell" sounds like bandwagoning to me. "Pulling" for a team doesn't. But hey, maybe we're talking about the same thing and only semantics seperate us. Either way, I think you've proved with your teams all over the country that we have entirely different philosophies about rooting for teams.

Like I said, that's youre opinion. I assign them degrees, just like when I say I "like" a team it's different than if I say I "love" them. But honestly, I'm not overly concerned with your judgments regarding my fandom.

We should all be experts. It's very simple: you should root for your hometown teams (with limited exceptions) no matter what. If you don't, you're not a true fan. Period. That's a rule that even you can remember.

Some people have entirely different definitions of what a true fan is. But everyone can have their opinion. I won't argue with that.

level 1 ( not bandwagoning): Pulling for a team

level 2 (could be a bandwagon): rooting

level 3 (you are a bandwagon): like hell

are those your degrees...

i actually agree with murlow on this one....

i think rooting for a team is different from pulling for a team

i root for the padres, and also pulling for the rays (mostly cuz i hate the yankees and red sox)

That could not be more wrong. Being a bandwagon is suddenly rooting for a team that started playing well. As long as you stay with your favorite team, it doesn't make a difference if it's from your home town or not.

Don't the ushers do anything?

Up here the Ushers are ... well I think they studied at some sort of military school. I think it is great. They enforce the rules about when to move and when not to consistently.

I do remember when the As were playing the Twins in the MLB playoffs a while back. We were watching on TV at work during a day game absolutely baffled as to why the A's weren't sold out, while playoff tickets here are gobbled up immediately.

In Toronto the ushers certainly dont. They are generally very lax, and wont act unless something is blatantly ob vious or someone goes and alerts/asks them. It can be both a blessing and a curse.
