http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/13774/the-new-york-super-bowl-debate This should defiantly be done. first off Miami and Tampa get half the Super Bowls anyway, 60-70 degrees yada yada yada. A Cold weather game is something we've never seen. Now I don't think this should be a every year thing or anything, nor do I thnk they should play it in Green Bay where it's like 10 degrees, but it shouldn't be a one year deal either. Also on other Super Bowl location related thoughts, what ever happened to a West Coast Super Bowl, where it's sunny for the whole first half? I'd like to see one of those soon.

No way. Nothing sucks more than going to a cold game. It's annoying, unless you are really drunk (in which case you will really see how ***tty you feel after being sober again).

Paying $1,000+ to sit in a cold game? Even worse.

Exactly, these guys aren't little girls. They are football players. If they can't win a cold weather game, they don't deserve to be NFL Champions.

They can play in it, but that certainly doesn't mean the media will like being there, or that the fans who go to watch the game are gonna enjoy it.

You think some media guys are gonna say, well I WAS gonna do the superbowl, but it's cold? biggest TV event of the year.. it doesn't matter how cold it is. Fans won't care either, it'll be sold out no matter where or hold cold. I'd LOVE to see a superbowl with some snow! can we hook that up? Then those wussy teams like the colts would freeze up (wait, they did that last year, zing!)

Cold weather is beyond stupid for the biggest game in the most popular sport. Can't wait for a tuck rule to happen in the Super Bowl, though i'm not surprised NY has this kinda pull. Don't even start on snow, imagine how great it will be to drop thousands for a ticket and not even being able to see. "Don't be little girls they can play" sorry but if the Packers play in a cold weather SB and say the Cardinals meet them there i think it's wrong to give the Pack a little advantage.

The cold really is not the issue for me but rather the wind. I live in a cold winter climate and the wind will effect a football game a lot more then chilly temps.

roulettethedog
True, and i've heard alot of QB's say rain is alot worse then snow, snow doesn't really effect the ball much. Football teams should be able to play in all kinda of conditions. Say having the SB is in a Dome down south, isn't that giving an advantage to a team that likes to throw over a team that likes to run? Why can't it go the other way sometimes too. I'd love to go to a snow game, that would be awesome. Think about it, the Pats have 2 snow games that are still brought up to this day, they're just magical.

Then don't pay it and stay home. They both play on the same field, at least half of the league plays in cold environments regularly. I like it.

I don't like this because I prefer neautral weather. Cold weather favors running games more for example. Plus, snow games are SO boring anyways.

Yeah. The weather can effect who makes it to the Super Bowl anyway, if we wanted ultra fairness the league would be indoors., which I don't think any of us want to see. Also the fact that it's rained once on 15 Florida Super Bowls in pretty much a miracle, and when it did rain that one time no one was really talking about it as being unfair, nor do I think it was.

OK so whats next...Chicago? Whatever, it doesn't matter to the fans since most of the real fans don't get a chance to get Superbowl tickets. Its all one big white collar corporate party at a superbowl with a bunch of hot milfs asking their rich husbands what a first down is.

It sucks because im a JETS fan and wish I wasnt forced to go all the way to New Jersey to attend a game. But at least the NETS are coming to Brooklyn :D

It's okay to play every single playoff round in crappy weather, except for the last one? That's bullcrap. Football is a foul weather sport. If you want warm sunny days, watch baseball. If you want to be indoors with air-conditioning, watch basketball. Football is meant to be played in the mud, snow, wind, or whatever else nature throws at it.

Boo hoo. Its like 7 miles west of NY City,a number of teams play in a suburb of the city they are named after. Its all about land, it makes sense. Its no big deal. You act like you have to take a charter flight to the place.

No, try again. The Super Bowl is Americas biggest event and they keep it in warm weather places mostly due to investor reasons. It makes perfect sense.

Honestly I wouldn't have a problem if all of the NFL's games were played in domes (and don't tell me to just go watch the AFL if that's the case, because the AFL blows). It can be hard to watch games at Soldier Field because the grass there is in terrible condition more often than not -- a player can do nothing wrong and still trip because the playing surface sucks. Stuff like that can turn what was supposed to be a completed pass into an interception and end up completely changing the game.

And yes, I realize that I'm probably in the minority in thinking that and I know it will never happen.

Edit: After thinking about it some more, I guess my complaint is more about the playing surface than the weather. I don't like grass, especially Soldier Field's sorry excuse for grass.

Yes, but like Mike Golic said, the game are fun to play in, but they end up not being that fun if the weather gets awful.

I don't care if it's a little amount of snow. It's fine. Oh, and nobody here needs to use that "sissy" excuse. Every NFL player has played in cold weather..

It is a big deal. Like they say, NY technically has one football team and that is the Bills and it kinda does feel that way :?. They could of built the stadium on the west side, but it was rejected. They could of also built it in Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, or even Staten Island  I feel it was odd for them yet again to build a stadium out of state and still call the team NY :? This has not only gotten to me but other newyorkers as well so the only thing left that I can do is complain which I have been doing since  . And yes, it is one state away, you are right about that but the commute is expensive. But like I said, im glad at least the Nets are coming into the City. Its more convenient. But nonetheless, I am happy to finally have a Superbowl that is reachable. Now, how am I going to get those tickets  ?

Honestly I don't really think putting the Superbowl in New Jersey is great. A cold Superbowl would be interesting to watch but I rather the Superbowls stay in the south and/or indoors.

EDIT: Too late. Looks like NY won the bid.

Well, Super Bowl 48 is going to suck.

Then again, the other choices were Tampa and Miami, AGAIN. I wish L.A. would get a football team back cause L.A. could host some Super Bowls, another good place for a SB would be Houston too... didn't Houston host one a few years ago? Patriots one, right?

They are not building it, it wont be built until a team is ready to move here and LA county has nothing to do with it as its all private money.

Its not a big deal, east rutherford is pretty much in the shadow of NY and not far away. Have you ever thought that maybe the stadium was too big and there wasnt enough land to build it there, did you ever find out why it was rejected?

YEAH, I'm pumped for this superbowl. about time they made out outside and in the North.

Cold weather games aren't bad at all. I will admit I'm canadian so i've watched vanier cups and CFL games in snowy novembers. Personally there awsome, and if "fans" don't want to brave the elements to support their team then their simply not fans.

I don't think any player has complained about this so far, so no reason to assume it either. Besides, every football player, especially in the NFL, has played in some sort of cold weather situation.

it really is a part of the game. in fact, i think it makes the game BETTER when you play in these conditions. it tends to put more of an emphasis on the running game in a passing league, and balances it out more it seems.

[QUOTE="starwarsjunky"]if they cant play the SB in cold weather, then they better ban any other playoff games be allowed in it. no more green bay, NY, new england,... playoff games starwarsjunky

It all really depends though. When the weather is horrible, I'm not the biggest fan of it. When theres snow and a bit of chilly weather, I love it.

Thats from my personal football experience. I still loved playing football, but those freezing, bad weather friday nights just made it a little more miserable.

It's different for NFL players though..They have those warming fans, and all that other crap. I had some hand warmers :P

Can't use that for this

What teams do all season long is to try to have the best record so when it comes time for the playoffs they get home games and the advantage

The Superbowl on the other hand is supposed to be the one and only game of the season that is completely neutral, when all goes right it's supposed to negate any advantage by either team.

but why should it be any different? all the other playoff games are elimination games, so shouldnt the SB use the same method to determine everything? and they would still try to get the best record in order to play as bad a team as possible.

No, the playoff arenas are set on what teamdoes better in the regular season, the reward is to have an advantage at home in the playoffs

In the Superbowl neither team is supposed to have the advantage

theyd still get their reward by getting an easier matchup tho...

What easier matchup?

Each conference winner plays the champion of the other conference
