It still plays just fine, the only real issue that I have with it is the names and the Bears mixups. The names I understand, the NFLPA doesn't have the rights to use those names anymore. But the obvious number errors for the Bears really makes me mad.
Walter Payton is not #35, Jim McMahon is not #18 (that's Mike Tomzcak his backup) and there are a couple of other ones that I were just totally confused with. Why did they change the numbers (and the speed of the Bears RB for that matter) of just a couple of players. I mean Joe Montana held out of the NFLPA towards the end of his career (thus playing as QB Chiefs, same thing with Randall Cunningham AKA QB Eagles) but #16 is the QB for the 49'ers.
All in all the game plays just fine. Part of me wonders how a button mashing football game would do nowadays where the focus is on realism. Even Blitz wasn't like this as far as gameplay goes, and it holds up over the test of time. I found myself wishing I was 10 again going next door to my neighbor Jeff's house to play Tecmo Bowl after school.
The only way that this could be better is if they would bring out Super Tecmo Bowl, but I don't know how the NFL license would work for that. Odd fact is that Morton Anderson would be the only person in the NFL now that could be in Super Tecmo Bowl.
I just found out about the names in the Wii forums. You're right. I'll remember the main stars, but it will take away from the overall experience.jsnowman23Â Really it doesn't. I mean sure knowing who you are throwing to would be nice (in a way) but do you need to know that Cap Bozo is the TE for the Bears? I mean does anyone really use Seattle or Dallas in this game? Do you need to know who their starting left tackle is?
im gonna get it for sure! i can't wait till mike tyson comes out!tantalus4you won't get mike tyson, you'll get the revised version w/ "Mr Dream" instead of mike tyson. I agree w/ the a previous post that said it simply takes away from the full experience. It's not the same if it isn't EXACTLY THE SAME, and it's not. Even the feel of those old silver and black controllers is something i need. Maybe it's just me, but that's how i feel. That is why if i want to play old NES games like tyson's punch out or tecmo bowl i will play them on an NES, not some modern emulator that is trying to recapture the game but can't do it to the full potential.
