WTF? I bet Stern blocks this trade too. This free agency period is crazy.
"Nets have emerged as No. 1 choice for Dwight Howard, multiple sources say. D12 is expected to ask Magic to trade him to NJ."

eww the Nets? My favorite player can't go to a trash town like that! They already have enough "Giants" playing ball there...

The more I think about the veto the stupider it seems.
WTF are the Hornets supposed to do with Chris Paul now? He's unhappy, the rumor is that he won't report to camp which lowers his trade value since teams know the Hornets will just be looking for ANYTHING in return at this point. They're not going to get any better trade offers than the one they had. If the league vetoed the Laker trade for being unfair then they have to veto any trade that's even worse.
I don't like the Lakers but I really don't like the precedent this sets where David Stern can punish a team because their GM is smart.
Do Chicago fans fear taking a step back?No_Hablo_Ingles
I don't think the Bulls will be the 1 seed this year. But there really isn't that much competition in the East - there's the Bulls, Heat, and Celtics. Maybe the Knicks. I think they can at least get to the Eastern Conference Finals again.
"When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?"
 Good ol' Gilbert.
I saw on ESPN Houston Rockets were one of the teams that met with Howard. I would have no problem if he comes to Texas ;)
... I hate Chuck Hayes. He can go away for all I care. He is shorter than our SG anyway.Good news, NHI: You no longer have to worry about a 6'6" center.
Bad news: I'm not sure you have any centerJML897
We have his best friend on our team >.> If Howard wears a Rockets jersey... it would be the greatest day ever. Since Yao retired, there is a 7'5 sized hole in my NBA heart... Howard would fill that well enoughI saw on ESPN Houston Rockets were one of the teams that met with Howard. I would have no problem if he comes to Texas ;)

Even if the Lakers were to somehow end up with a "super team" with C.Paul and Howard. It is not a guarantee they win the championship. Everyone thought that with the Big 3 in Miami, but that didn't happen. The Lakers would be left with a very thin team. Who knows if Paul and Bryant can run the backcourt well together? Plus Mike Brown is COACH??? LOL.
It was such a great trade for the Hornets, I cannot stress that enough.
But I guess with the NBA it wasn't a basketball decision... it was a money decision for the Hornets. For the very short term too! End of the season Paul is gone anyway.
Actually, I remember reading and hearing more "experts" and analysts talk about how it would take Miami one, maybe two, years before they really started coming together as a team and making it to the Finals, winning championships. There were some who spoke of them going all the way their first year, but not more than those who said it would be later. And you're acting like "that didn't happen," like it can't happen. :D They made it to the Finals. Of course, when they got there, they didn't really know what to do, but it was still only one year.It is not a guarantee they win the championship. Everyone thought that with the Big 3 in Miami, but that didn't happen.

Oh it definately can happen. They DID make it to the Finals. I just remember plenty of people handing out the title to the Heat before the season began.
In other News... good for the Knicks to add some defense since I believe they are getting Tyson Chandler
I am starting to think it kind of the small market teams fault that these NBA all stars are able to even play in those large markets....No_Hablo_InglesHow so?
[QUOTE="No_Hablo_Ingles"]I am starting to think it kind of the small market teams fault that these NBA all stars are able to even play in those large markets....Master_LiveHow so? They do trades and sign and trades, giving them away so they will get something for them. I understand the logic behind it, and in some cases it is a great deal... but is some cases the value doesn't add up and I think it's best to keep the player. When you trade them or do sign in trade deals, not only do you not get equal value for them, but (in the case of CP3 and Melo) you are trading them to a large market team team that would not be capable of getting that player via free agency. In the Laker deal, they would have no shot a getting CP3 in free agency since they have the highest payroll and few expiring contracts. I think if a team is going to lose a star, unless you get equal value you do not trade them. If you are going into rebuilding mode, get a clean start like the Cavs almost have.
Sometimes the players dictate where they want to go. Paul has made it clear that he doesn't want to stay in New Orleans. 'Melo did the same to Denver and Bosh in Toronto.
Then sometimes you see DUMB trades like with Memphis who traded away Gasol for basically nothing.

No more sign trade in new CBA. Maybe the NBA needs to be like baseball in which if you sign a Type A free agent you give your 1st rounder and a sandwich pick to the team loosing the player.
But is that right? For player under contracts I mean.Sometimes the players dictate where they want to go.

NBAPA is a joke, MLBPA or the NFLPA would DESTROY the commissioner if he ever pull a stunt like this.
NBA is one giant joke right now. Times like these make me not really care that the Sonics are gone.monkeytoes61I know what you mean. But I still miss them. :(
David Stern is my hero right now. PLEASE don't let this trade happen. I'm convinced Jerry West has Leslie Alexander's (Rockets owner) family at gunpoint, it's the only way I can believe it would even be agreed to.

I can. Oden is next.No_Hablo_InglesAnd NHI starts the season 1-0!
Anyone else realize that the Rockets have 3 first round picks this year?
Anyway...
The talks were revived Friday afternoon after Stern took the stunning step of killing the deal in its previous form in his role as the representative of the 29 owners who took custodianship of the New Orleans franchise in 2010. The goal was to tweak the deal in a way that allowed New Orleans to come away with younger players and more draft picks, the directive issued by the commissioner's office after a trade that would've sent the Hornets three bonafide starters, a solid backup, and a mid-first-round pick was deemed not good enough by Stern....Where the younger assets would come from was still being negotiated early Saturday, with potential candidates to go to New Orleans being Patrick Patterson, Courtney Lee and an assembly of draft picks, according to an executive briefed on the talks.cbssportscom
When I read this... why does it feel like 'The goal was to tweak the deal in a way that allowed the Rockets to get bent over a table and throughly ****ed by giving up MORE stuff, so the Lakers can can get CP3"

with what Salary cap?[QUOTE="No_Hablo_Ingles"][QUOTE="Chutebox"]with what Salary cap? I mean Hornets will get nothing..I'm assuming they'll trade away some of their cap some how That's what I was discussing earlier. I say it is better not to trade him, unless you get picks/young players. Neither of which the Hornets are really getting. To add to that, they will just be delaying the inevitable. They will be good enough to make a little noise, but NOT good enough to make any real noise. That is NBA hell, too good to get a good chance at a lottery pick-not good enough to make the playoffs.Ok, Lakers will get him next year for nothing...

Yet, if you are the worst team in the league you aren't assure the 1st pick of the draft. Supposedly this is done to prevent tanking but to no avail.Yet, if you are the worst team in the league you aren't assure the 1st pick of the draft. Supposedly this is done to prevent tanking but to no avail. Master_LiveYou don't need to be the worse team. The drop off in talent in the NBA draft usually occurs after the first 1-3 picks. Anyone of top 3 pick can help a franchise rebuild.
