Pretty much an instant WS for Detroit if that happens.

Instant haha.

You forget that the Red Sox could aquire Santana and have the best starting pitching in the game. Beckett Santana Matsuzaka Buckholtz Shilling/Wakefield.

Willis is not that good, but that lineup is off-the-charts. Good for the Tigers. Hopefully the Sox can pull off the Santana trade.

It doesn't really matter what the Sox and Yanks do. Even if the Sox get Santana this is still a huge deal. This makes the Tigers, a team that didn't even make the playoffs, an instant pennant contender. It's so disgusting how you Yankees (meaning people from the Northeast) try to make everything about you. I'm only going to say this once:

THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT THE RED SOX OR YANKEES. Period.

It does change everything in the AL, though. In my opinion, next year the Tigers will struggle, and maybe get a Wild Card spot(though doubtful). If this trade goes through, it probably makes them the AL Central favorites.

There are other teams than the Yankees and Red Sox, and other divisions than the AL East.

Great trade for the Marlins, good trade for the Tigers.

Marlins: Oh boy, they get a catcher and an outfielder to plug holes plus 4 pitchers including Miller which will end up being better than Willis. Just wait for the usual title run in 3 years.

Tigers: They get a superb young batter and a good left handed. Some problems I see: Tigers doesn't need offense, they were third in run scored last season plus Polanco/righty, Renteria/righty, Ordoñez/righty, Sheff/righty, Cabrera/righty...you see where I'm going? Then they trade a guy who may have peaked already in Willis coming from a season in which he struggle in a hitters park in the NL to a hitters park in the AL. Plus his arbitration eligible so basically they traded a better lefty-handed pitching prospect with a low salary for a lefty from the NL making 10x more money. Why not keep Miller and trade 4 prospects for Cabrera alone. Plus they already had a good third baseman in Inge + they didn't improve in their biggest weakness: RELIEVERS.

Good post. I agree with you. They didn't need offense. They needed pitching. Four of the five starters for the Tigers were all over 5 ERA I believe. That's terrible, not to mention a bullpen that has a 5 ERA closer....

i live in miami and i love the marlins and i couldn't of asked for a better trade for us.

We got Andrew Miller; another stud and young left handed pitcher. And then also we got Cameron Maybin which is a prototype of a five tooled player. When Maybin was drafted he was compared to be like Ken FREAKIN Griffey Jr.

Cant wait for the season to start

I wouldnn't look to next year as being amazing, they are all young. But in the 2-8 year margin your looking at some nice seasons.

The Tigers have the best line-up in baseball now, top to bottom they are just so good. For the Marlins, it's a risky maneuver, but they've pulled of similar moves in the past. My one issue is that none of these players are going to be Cabrera. He is a very rare talent, and no matter how sucessful these prospects turn out to be, they won't be able to replace a 34 year old kid that has proven himself as one of the best hitters in baseball.

Willis is still young and I still consider him to be great, but the DT's lineup with Magglio Ordonez AND Miguel Carbrera, come on, it's almost a lock that the Motor City Kitty's will win the division

m'I the only one that thinks that if the Twins keep Santana + Liriano + Boonser + Nathan + Crain, and Mauer + Mourneau + Young in the lineup that they can certainly get to the WS.

Nop, A-Rod, Jeter, Matsui, Abreu, Cano, Posada its deeper, balanced and more consistent plus Damon(a year remove from a very good season), Giambi(contract season + look at his stats from 06') and a descent Melky.

I agree. Red Sox lineup has no weakness except Varitek who's still a decent hitting catcher. They are patient. They are also got power.

Great trade. In a way I'm happy. I'm a Jays fan, but even though the big guns are coming in the AL, and even our division, it's still gonna be pretty neat to play them so often.

Yep. The competition keeps growing in the American League while the National League....well...the best team in that division are the Rockies--that should explain everything.

This trade just made us from playoff contenders into world series contenders!

Our Lineup

C: Pudge

1B:Carlos Guillen

2B: Placido Polanco

SS: Edgar Renteria

3B; Miguel Cabrera

LF: Thames/Jones

CF: Curtis Granderson

RF: Magglio Ordonez

DH: Gary Sheffield

Best Lineup ever. Even better than the Yankees in years past.

SP: Justin Verlander, Jeremy Bonderman, Dontrelle Willis, Kenny Rogers, Nate Robertson.

Our only weakness still is our bullpen. But are main weakness BRANDON INGE! IS FINALLY BENCHED!! You don't know how many rallies Brandon Inge killed for us last year. That a big plus for us. 08 IS THE YEAR OF THE TIGER!! WORLD SERIES BABY!

What about other teams like the Angels, Indians, Mariners, Twins (if they keep Santana), and Blue Jays (yes, if healthy I can see them being a premier team in the league)?

Agreed. A sleeper, with Halladay + Burnett in contract year + McGowan + Marcum and Accardo + Ryan in the bullpen. With a rebounding year from Wells + Glaus + Thomas...plus Rios or Lincecum this could be a dangerous team with a consistent starting pitching.

Should be a way instead of thoughts of contractions or moving the Marlins to another city... just demote them to an independent minor league team. They do a great job of developing good young talent, then having them moved to a team that can afford them.

Even if Dontrelle has a average season, he's better than what DET had in it's three or four spot before.
