Just happened. Urban Meyer, coach of the University of Florida has announced he will be stepping down due to health and family. Meyer led the Gators to two National Championships and led Utah to a #4 ranking in his last season there before heading over to Florida. No official story yet, but here's evidence. It's just amazing. Edit: Here's a better story.

Man i know Notre Dame is kicking themselves now. If they knew he was available they wouldn't have got Kelly. Notre would have thrown all the money in the world at Meyer, which i'm sure would be enough to help him with his health. My guess is within a month or two he'll be an NFL coach. We'll see

Pretty interesting. The details are pretty lacking other than "chest pains."

I guess all will be speculation until we get the facts straightened out. Until then, all the rest of college football is salivating at the fact that maybe he'll return one day in a few years and coach their team. Til then, I hope he gets his health taken cared of---college football is a much better place with him in it. :)

Quite shocking to hear, I wonder what big name they'll get to come in. I'm willing to bet after a while Meyer will come back and coach some more.

I can't imagine how much stress being a coach for Florida can bring. I would quit too if I already had two national championships and millions. Rather be alive and well then working myself into a quick grave.

When I saw this a few hours ago, I thought it was the alcohol. Now that I'm fully awake, I'm totally shocked. Georgia better steal some recruits.

Interesting, maybe stress related issues?

It has to be health related. There is no good reason for him to resign.

On a nice 180 switch, Meyer will not be resigning, but will be taking an indefinite leave of absence. Link. That's interesting.

And a large chunk of college football is saved

I think he had every intention of leaving until Florida met with him and said that the job is his anytime he wants it and it wouldn't be a strain to the school waiting
