I think the only way they'll ever change the OT rules is if a Super Bowl goes into OT and the team who gets the ball first scores right away...and even then, they might not.

The NFL overtime rules are a joke. They need to be fixed.

oh people cared. This has be debated for some time now. The NFL is thinking about extending the season but I dont think they still dont care about addressing OT and its rules.

they claim OT is the way it is so the players wont get hurt, but they want to extend the season...makes PERFECT sense...

Yes this isn't the only time the OT rules have been discussed here.

Reminds me of one of NCAA's excuses not to include the playoffs. Their game rules are set to where on average, there are more snaps per game as opposed to the NFL. On top of this the other Divisions have playoffs. Yet it's too many games for NCAAA Division 1 to have a playoff.

The only time anyone really cares about the overtime rules is when your team loses, i would love for them to change the rules though

ill be damned if the pats lost an important game because of some crummy field goal, 1 minutes into overtime

Funny how I posted in a thread like this a few months ago. OT is crap, I love how games are determined by a coin toss.

There was a stat displayed during the Saints/Viking game that said the team that won the toss has been 7-6. Doesn't seem like it's really that unfair.

Its not. Just because the team wins the coin toss, doesnt mean they will make a game-winning score.

why would they change it? teams/ fans shouldn't **** because their teaqm never saw the ball in overtime. if they were the better team they would have won it in regulation.

games are not decided by a coin toss, they are decided by the teams' play during the 60 minutes of regulation. if your team is better it never would have gotten to overtime.

Not only that, if the losing team's defense couldnt stop the winning team in OT, they didnt diserve to win.

These rules are fine. The Vikings had plenty of chances to get the ball back, and they blew them all. Plus, every team has tons of chances to take the lead in regulation, so it only makes sense that OT should be sudden death.

I hate the rules. But OT rules are the only thing stopping NFL teams from being offensive only since defense is bad nowadays.

13 games isn't exactly a large enough sample to draw any conclusions from. how bout over the last ten years?

edit: since the rule change of 1994 bringing the kickoff back 5 yards, the win percentage of the team that wins the coin-flip is 60% which is unreasonably high.
