The reason I say this is because FFXII has been getting alot of superb scores. The websites that reviewed FFXII love it. FFXII looks fun and interesting. This game has alot of potential. This game has the potential to be the next FFVII or close to it.

The scores show it. If gamespot and IGN give this game a 9 or higher, then theres no doubt that this game will be the next FFVII or close to it. I'm so hyped about this game. I can't wait until  Gamespot and IGN review FFXII. Square-Enix needs to continue to bring us superb FF games like they did with FVII.

In terms of story, gameplay, character development, and graphics, FFXII will absolutely crush FFVII. So in that sense, it will surpass FFVII. It will not surpass FFVII in terms of the effect it had on the RPG genre because the modern RPG genre owes everything to FFVII and its debatably deserved legacy. FFXII is entering the fray in a developped genre so it technically can not surpass the title that made that market mainstream. That is unless the next bach of RPGs all try to mimic FFXII's gameplay system (meaning how the battles are played out). The liscense system of skill learning is really just a modified version of the Digital Devil Saga 2 version of learning skills.

Yeah i think it can. I am not going by the reviews, i am going by the videos and the pictures i have seen. But i went with the 'I don't know Only time will tell' option. Because i could be wrong :)

FF12 is great, but it can never touch FF7. Nothing can top FF7 (atleast not until PS3 ;) The fighting sequence of FF12 are going to turn a lot of people off. It's very unliked FF7-FFX, more like FFX-2 because it's so fast hurry-up on the battles. They crammed too much new into FF12 that it will make a lot of people unhappy with it. Atleast up front, because the first impression is what matters the most to some. FF13 on the PS3 is looking very sweet. If they can do the story right, I think that might top FF7 in terms of overall best Final Fantasy game.

I dont think FFXII has what it takes, And this topic is a bit controversal in the sense that each indevidual gamer will have there diffirent opinions on the game, So it wouldnt be fair to set this topic based on the reviews and reatings it has been given, But as the individual gamer's opinion. And in my opinion this game has to many similaritys to FFIX, So its not entirely original in my book. So No it will not surpass FFVII

unless you have played the japanese version with full tranlations, I don't see how you can say that. The game isn't even out stateside yet. Also this game was created by the team behind final fantasy tactics, and if you have ever played that game, you should know the story is very deep and involving than almost any game to date.

The effect Final Fantasy VII has had on gamers will resonate for a long time. SE was devout on keeping all their releases as fresh new stories, but the impact of VII was hard to ignore. The fact is that VII's story, characters, graphics, and presentation were on a caliber unheard of at the time. A lot of those aspects have been surpassed since then, but the story and character's appeal remain prominent, if not for the actual content, then simply because they are part of a legacy. I'm pretty confident will see... at least a few more games celebrating that masterpiece. Having said that, I've played some of the import of Final Fantasy XII and I have to say, it's amazing. The opening scene and prologue content really pull you in and it's obvious from that moment, that the story will be very engrossing. The problem is it's hard to compare the two games, which have a completely different theme, setting, mood, and system. It's also hard to compete a legacy with a new release; it'll take years to see what kind of impact the game will make over time, to prove the game will live out all the new hardware and more advanced development like Final Fantasy VII has.

There is no way I can tell until I've played it for myself.  Just because someone says it is that good doesn't make it true.  I personally haven't particularly liked the latest entries into the franchise (ffx, ffx-2, ffxi) and with the announcement of 3 ffxiii coming out i have my doubts as to the future of ff

In some ways I like FXII better from what I've seen of it and in some ways I don't like what I see in FXII.  I do however, like just about everything I've seen from FXIII, and I think making the game have a futuristic setting is better for the series in general.

I think FFXII can be as popular as FFVII was and be just as good as it, but in a different way. I think it will be a completely different game. I think it will be great :)

The new battle system may very well signal the dawn of a new era in RPG's in a manner simliar to how FFVII changed the genre. I am, however, a little disappointed from what I've heard about the "License Board" so far. It just seems like a modified sphere grid from FFX. Either way, I think FXII's contributions to the genre will not soon be forgotten once it is finally released in the US.

We all hope that maybe a Final Fantasy that can even measure close to what the PS1 titles did. The PS2 final Fantasy titles have not, Final Fantasy X was good but was still nothing close to Final Fantasy VII & VIII. I just hope that one PS2 Final Fantasies will come close to what we experience back in 97 & 99. This is their last chance for the PS2, hopefully Square-Enix will deliver.

Well i think the gameplay will be better, graphics and maybe character development might be better than VII, but not story. I don't think the storyline will come close to FFVII's storylines.

To me nothing can surpass my memories of FFVII(Kingdom hearts came close...as well as FFVIII) and I still am expecting nothing out of FFXII that wasn't already shown to me in FFX.
