I like the old Final Fantasy more. FF 9 always has a special place in my heart because of that. even thought they did add some tech stuff in there. but it was still great. It's almost getting harder with games like 7, 8, and 10.
i'd say Old School. While i prefer the sci-fi settings of 7 and 8 over the fantasy settings. FF 6 has real special place within me, it's steampunk meets magic setting and a great story.
You guys realize that final fantasy has been essentially going through time since the first one? I suppose if you look at them all they're saying history repeats. started with just castles n' such, then there was a little tech, airships and such powered by crystals. Then some more tech. then more modern (FF7) then FF8 was more advanced, FF9 was where it started going backwards, FF10 keeps going backwards... y'all see?
well it's no secret that after FF8, Square decided to return to some of it's roots by moving away from the Sci-Fi settings and returning to the magic and fantasy settings it started out with.
I really like technology and all that creative new stuff they can come up with like esthar and etc. That's a big reason to why I'm looking forward to the new ffxiii!!
There's some amount of technology in most FFs. I guess it varies from small amounts of mystic unexplained tech, to medeum/heavy industral tech, steampunk tech (of sorts) and the two styles of sci-fi tech so far. There's always been a balance though even with VII, VIII and X. Both stlyes work for me, story wise, visually or whatever else. Overall I prefer to have both but like tech looks better (Nomuras stuff especially). Hopefully XIII will have a balance as well but it won't bother me much if it doesn't as long as they don't push out mass amounts lame traditional (unoriginal) sci-fi story elements (Xenosaga).
New School Most definitely. I mean I love X because it does away with leveling! Thats why my favorite old school is 2! But yeah new school has the best story, music, and characters. And yeah IV, I love you 2.
I like the old school for its original stories, but I like the new school for all the new content and amount of gameplay. Can't really decide which is better.......
