FF7- most successful ever?

I think so entirely, seeing as no other FF game has this much speculation around it- a sequel, 2 prequels, and even a film........

It's my favorite FF personally. Wat dyou think?

Overrated?! In my opinion it is the greatest game of all time. I mean how can you beat the storyline? It was masterfully done, you never knew what was going to happen next. The characters were just so memorable, i felt attached to each one of them. Playing the game over and over again just made it better each time. I could pick it up right now and play for hours and not get board with it. I just think if u want to talk overrated, then look at Halo 2.

hell in my opinion it should have one game of the decade

I would love to see this game redone on the PS3 more than any of the spinoffs or movies or anything

I don't think the flaws matter, I think your perspective of the game during its time and after a period of time is what matters. FFVII has many flaws but they are more and more noticed as newer games with better gameplay and graphics show up. But what is amazing about FFVII is that a lot of people still think its the greatest game ever despite the fact that other games are technologically better. The reason for this is because of the qaulity of the story. I have yet to see a game with a better story then FFVII because I can relate to the story better then any other story out there.

People play games for different reasons. I for one, I play games mainly for the story, if the story sucks I don't want the game unless it has addictive gameplay like halo 2.

So FFVII is so amazing to many people because it manages to be an amzing game even with its flaws, and that is mainly because of the characters and the story, and that's what FF is all about, the story and characters, afterall it is a rpg. So it's not surprising to me that people overlook the bad graphics, the not so amazing gamelpay and flaws of the game. But what is suprising to me is that the they still think its the greatest game, even though they know that other games have better quality. So to it's all about how you see the story of the game. Either you like it a lot, a little, somewhat, or not all.

I think Final Fantasy VII is the most succesful. However, it is overrated. I can't wait for Advent Children or a remake. I feel that Dirge of Cerberus, Before Crisis and Crisis Core were not needed. I would still get them when they come out though. I feel other FFs should deserve the treatment that Final Fantasy VII i s getting.MC_RaZaR

Now I also don't think that FFVII is overrated as that game is great. Why do people say it is the most over rated easy it is the most popular so therefore an easy target. All the FF games before FFVII are too old and many people on this forum have not played them so they can't judge them and then all the games after FFVII are not even close to as popular as FFVII so to call them overrated is not going to mean much.

If you want my opinion though I think that FFVI was the game that started the use of most of the features then I think FFVII prefected the use of those features and all the games after FFVII started to do thing different which leads to some games having good features and other features not so good. Therefore not being in some peoples opinions being as good as FFVII was.

completely agree, but the point of choosing a game that is overrated or underrated is all a matter of someones personal perpective of the game.

So basicly every successful and popular game is considered by some people to be overrated. For example, there are people who think games like halo, half life and grand theft auto are overrated just because they don't like them completely or they just don't like the game as much as the rest of the world.

But in my opinion, I think FFVII is underrated because it did not win game of the year, even though the game sold the playstation, revoltuionized the console rpg genre, set a firm fan fallowing that so far has lasted almost a decade, considered by many to this day as the greatest game ever, and out beat its competition during 1997.
