Hardest square game for me was either FFXI or all the SNES era FF's. FFXI was hard because i could never find a effin party around lvl 60-70 so i quit lol. All you other XI vets know EXACTLY what i'm talking about. You could go weeks without a party.

final fantasy tactics for sure, b/c of all the strategizing that had to be done ahead of time (hence the name, strategy rpg).  but i was pretty disappointed with the final boss, it was kinda easy...

I would say Valkyrie Profile: Silmaria for sure.

This game is a true grind feast. What's worst than grinding for 3 hours straight and then moving to the next totally normal area and dying from simple non-boss or anything monsters?

Let me tell you, you're being put back at your place really fast

that ones alright, if you play final fantasy tactics first you see more of the refrences, but i don't find it to be that important.  it's like playing final fantasy xii and noticing those very same refrences.  se has made ivalice even more expansive!

but i still reccomend the ps version for it's better story.

im pretty good at square games, i run into problems in the older versions like 1-6 or so, even though i grew up playing them, always find the old school games harder to finish.

The 7th Saga for the SNES is so hard. You have to (and you must!) take time it levelling up to be able to go on through the game.Fantasy_Zone

Yeah I remember playing 7th Saga, quite difficult. Your right you had to stay in one area to train your level until you were strong enough for the next area. There was really only one person at the start who could really handle himself straight away, that big tough dude, the rest you needed to train soon as you got out of town. Still it was a pretty decent game, back then anyway.
