I think all their games should go multiplatform. It's really frustrating having to check which game is on which platform when it could be done on both 360 and PS3,Katz14

Eventually my friend, all the third-party games will become multi-platform in the near future. The trend right now certainly seems to be suggesting that. If going multiplatform is going to bring more money to the developers, then who would want to stay poor, right? ;)

Right, but I don't understand why it's only just started. Did they just realize that more copies sold equals more money? :P

Good question. That's probably because until the sixth generation (PS1,N64,Saturn) there was a difference of technology in the systems. Developers who wanted their games to utilise high-technology went for PS1. More traditional approach to games went for N64. And so on.

Before that, there was a clear division between the Sega and Nintendo systems. So there were some developers who made games ONLY for the Sega consoles and there were some who made games ONLY for Nintendo consoles.

This trend became quite popular actually. Even in the seventh generation (PS2,Xbox,GC,DreamCast),there were developers like Square Enix who made games only for PS2 (except for an occasional game on GC) and Team Ninja who made games only for Xbox. These developers were given huge sums of money by the console maker to keep their games exclusive to their own consoles.

But in this generation, with sales being quite well-dispersed (compare Wii's gap to Xbox 360 to PS2's gap to Xbox in terms of sales, and you'll see what I am talking about), I think developers have realised that keeping their games exclusive to one console isn't going to help them much financially. So,that's why many of the games formerly exclusive to Sony have gone to 360 and vice-versa,due to both the console's close proximity,technology-wise.

I've got a few questions for you about your statement. Is the figures for one year or lifetime? If per year, what year is this? If lifetime, how long has the PS2 been out according to how long the PS3 has been out? I've got more questions for you......just want to see your answers for this first.

[QUOTE="Cronaroth"]I have a Wii so dont start thinking im anti-Wii or anything. I just think it's hardly fair to count something that people have no choice if they want or not as something that is sold-when it's something that's forced with it. lightwarrior179

I am with Crona on this one. Just because Wii Sports is the best-selling game this gen doesn't mean it technically is. People get it along with their consoles. So people get it irrespective of whether they want it or not, whether they care about it or not.

I wonder how many of those who buy Wii play the Wii Sports game?

Im not saying i like wii sports being counted but the fact is that it is counted as a game sold on the market. Thats like saying all the halo 3 games that were sold with the console shouldnt be counted towards the overall sales because the customer didnt choose to buy the game it came with the console.

I see what you mean but still if you do a side-by-side comparison as to how many bought Wii Sports SEPARATELY compared to those who got Halo 3 SEPARATELY then you would see one of the sides getting heavily outnumbered.

Also, the Wii+ Wii Sports package is available in all the regions. And I didn't see Xbox 360+ Halo 3 package doing rounds everywhere in the world actually.

It wouldn't be totally fair to include a game that ALWAYS comes with the console,no matter what.

Sry man i probly didnt use the best example to prove the FACT.

I really hate this kind of stuff in a post but it looks like ill have to drive this one home.

If this was PERSONAL OPINION then i would totally agree with you i think its unfair that wii sports was counted and yes i didnt use the best example with the halo 3 pack but this isnt personal opinion this is FACT. The FACT is that wii sports is counted despite anyones PERSONAL OPINION including mine. WII sports is the best selling game its incorrect to deny that i dont like this FACT but the fact is its COUNTED.

now can we drop this one here and get on to things which are interesting an fun. Unfortunately ive had to drive the same fact through multiple times and i wouldnt have bothered if i had known the people would contest FACT.

I can understand what you're asking about. PS3 just hasn't been out there for as long as PS2 and hence it's sales are not comparable (actually it's PS2's 140M with PS3's 24M when I last checked). But it's quite obvious to be seen that not only PS3 but no other console in this gen is going to reach the sales as high as PS2. Maybe Wii but I can't see 360 or PS3 doing that. Why? Because much of the catalogue of games is getting divided between 360 and PS3,thus also dividing the potential sales between them.

Last gen, the rival consoles of PS2 weren't as strong as they are to Wii this gen. I mean Xbox was a fantastic console, but it severely lacked much beyond action/adventure,shooters and WRPGs. GC had it's usual share of Nintendo games but lacked in the department of third-party games barring a few like Killer7.

What Sakai was trying to state was correct. More and more games are going multiplatform? Is the wide difference in sales of PS3 and PS2 the ONLY reason for it? I don't think so. I think it's more dependant on generating more sales and revenue by going multiplatform something which every developer wants to do. Staying exclusive is not as hip-cool as it was during the late 90s.

Sure it's a fact. And there are numbers to even prove that.

But I am not debating on whether it is a fact or not. I am debating on how many people regard it as a fact. I mean many of the Wii owners themselves acknowledge Super Mario Galaxy as the best selling Wii game and not Wii Sports. Reason? Because they chose to disregard the fact. And it's pretty obvious from the reasons I've already stated before.

Yeah i know were your coming from. However you choose to see it is up to the individual person.

PS: Wii Play, Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii and super smash bros brawl have sold more than galaxy.
