Also, if Tabata wanted to make an FPS did Square really need to slap the FFVII name on it so they would get guaranteed sales? Ok, good business strategy or whatever but to me it looks like Square are basically taking advantage of the name "Final Fantasy VII" and I personally don't like that.Somegamer
Tabata is actually the one that wanted to make a mobile game. It was Kitase who wanted to make a FPS game. Ever since Sakaguchi left, Kitase has been left in charge of the FF series. Kitase directed FFVI (with Sakaguchi), FFVII, and FFVIII. So why did he put the FFVII name on the FPS game that he wanted to make. Why not? You have to remember these developers are FF fans themselves and they loved FFVII. Making a FPS game about Vincent was a perfect idea since a lot of fans loved Vincent but his side of the story was never told and it gave Kitase a chance to tell the story of Vincent.
It seems many companies actually do take this approach of name sales, which disappoints me.

Indeed it disappoints me aswell. But the consumer is the one to blame. It is becomming more and more risky to make original games these days thus the reason companies have to hold on to successful franchises.
With the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, it was the first I'd actually heard that Nomura and Tabata wanted to participate in the development. But that doesn't necessarily explain the decision to make three more games in the compilation. I may be wrong, but it looks to me that Square have become more and more money hungry after their rise from bankruptcy to the point where we start getting five spin offs for entries in the main series.Somegamer
Keep in mind that Sqaure Enix is still in a whole. All it takes is one title to flop and they could go into financial crisis again. Games have become very expensive (around $20 million per game). Would you want to invest that much money on an original game within a sequel dominated market in which it would be very likely to flop. Sqaure Enix is not Microsoft. They can not afford to loose that much money thus the reason they are sticking to proven franchises. Again, if you want to blame someone, blame the consumer.
Look at Lost Odyssey and look at FFXIII. FF fans could care less if Lost Odyssey was made by the creators of FF. If it does not have the FF name on it, they don't trust it. But Lost Odyssey stands on equall ground with FFXIII, the only difference is that Lost Odyssey does not have the FF name to back it up while FFXIII does. Because of this FFXIII is 100 times more popular then Lost Odyssey. The only type of FF fans that are excited about Lost Odyssey are the FF vets like myself. Lost Odyssey could easily become a FF game. Just add a chocobo, a moogle, the FF name in front of it with a Roman numeral and there you have it. Just think of it as if Lost Odyssey was actually called FF14.
When Kojima starts making original games, I can bet you a million bucks that the next MGS game (which he will not make) will be 50 times more popular then his game. Is that fair? Of course not, but is how the video game industry works.
I for one, do not fallow franchises. I fallow the developers such as Kojima, Sakaguchi, Matsuno (FFXII, FFT, Vagrant Story), Fumitu Ueda (ICO, SotC).Â
i would prefer a good storyline and good gameplay over graphicsmobb463
Oh yes. Graphics are probably the least important factor in the game. Sure, I want graphics to improve, but if it was a choice between one or the other, I would much rather have good gameplay. Hell, people still love FFVII, me being one of them, and look at those graphics!
[QUOTE="Somegamer"]No, I did mean a Final Fantasy VII compilation consisting of:
Dirge of Cerberus
Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode
Advent Children
Before Crisis
Crisis CorePs3fanboy
Like someone else already said, FFU has nothing to do with FFVII. You're probably thinking of Last Order.
who said that enix was destroying ff's, i think that ff is neverendingdareheaven
I want Squeenix to take an FF sabatical. By this I mean no new FF games for 10 years or at least one generation of consoles. They can make other games and use other franchises. Hopefully by the end of the sabbatical, their creative juices will be flowing and we can have a truly legendary FF game. The questions is what do people prefer... A) A lot of average to subpar games released very quickly... B) A few good games over a decent period of time... C) One truly spectacular game that will stand the test of time after a long thought out development period.... Now Squeenix is doing the "A" route, I want them to move more towards the "C"Gorman7147
You have to remember that Sqaure Enix just got out of their financial crisis and if they went with the "C" route then they would most likely go banckrupt. Going with the "C" route would mean they would have to make a lot of original games. And if you know anything about the video game industry, original games don't sell. So for Sqaure Enix to go down the "A" route is reasonable. However I would argue that even though they are going down the "A" they are still producing that one single amazing game once or twice every generation that you would like. FFXII is great example of that. Even though they where in financial Crisis, they put a huge amount of effort in FFXII to make perfect. Even FFXIII they are putting a lot of effort into. That game has been in development for about 3 years and they are really trying to make it as great as possible. I don't think you will see any better FF games whether they took the A route or the B route or the C route.
Well they definitely pucked FFX-2 up, that was just a bad idea all together. I will say that they did a good job for the most part with FFX, however I was dissappointed that there was not a world map that you could travel around in like on FF6,7,8, and 9.Â
As far as I'm concerned FFXI or the online final fantasy might as well not even exist because it just sucks. I would have to say square soft has screwed up by joining Enix because they have only come out with one solid ff game in the past 5 or so years which is FFX.
The recent Final Fantasy games haven't been up to par,IMO the older ones were better. Now I want square to do well but they haven't been. I hope they can turn it around.Â

Actually FFX and FFXI where released by Sqauresoft. Enix had no influence what so ever on those two games. FFX-2 on the other hand was a desicion made by Sqaure Enix and good one I might add. Yes the game was cheaply made and is not of high standards such as other FF games. However, the purpose of FFX-2 and FF Tactics Advanced was to get the company out a financial Crisis. If those two game where not made then Advent Children would have only been 20 minutes lons as originally planned, the other FFVII spin-offs would have never been made and FFXII would have been released 2 years early in which the game would suck for not given enough time to be comleted. But thanks to FFX-2 and FF Tactics Advanced, the FFXII team was given more time to make FFXII and the other projects where given more funds so the projects could be expanded such as Advent Children.
