I think it is very safe to say that everyone believes there is at least 1 border-line "perfect" game made by Square Enix. In my case, it would be FFVII, even though it is not my favorite. If there was one "attribute" you were forced to take out of that 'perfect' game, what would it be?

This decision is so tough, but that's the fun of it. I've come to "omit" ....the...geeze I dont know. The graphics. I'd rather the graphics be diminished to 32-bits of glory, even though FFVII was initially hyped over it being "The first 3-D Final Fantasy".

I love the lego-ish character model of FF7. It gave the game a style of its own. Besides, I love anime so I am very comfortable to bigs eyes/limbs and no mouth designs. There are just some flaws in the battle graphics, especially when using Climhazzard and Phoenix summon.

hahahaha somehow I knew this would be a popular answer...because it is a perfect game, you're right. Or at least in my eys it's the closest I've ever seen to perfect. The point of this thread though was to 'give up' something in that game to where it would still be enjoyable, yet not perfect.

oh ok then, well.....

i guess i would give up the environmental quests then - the ones where you have to only kill certain kinds of elemental enemies - that got a bit tedious after awhile :)

FF8 would be perfect if the graphics were a little better (although they are great for their time period and I still enjoy them, but since we want to make it perfect...)

Hopefully FFXIII will be perfect, it looks as if it will appeal to new people and be fast based but apparently it will be turnbased.

VIII's was awful. There's only one track I like, and that's the boss fight music.

And for IX, there's only one track I don't care for. The rest I love.

Schulzygrl

For me it was the gameplay and voiceacting...you see I didnt really care for the whole draw/junction system...it's like I can't use magic without ever having to worry about my stats goin down...can't we all just cast magic in peace. And then the voice acting..there was [none]. Call me spoiled or what have you, but with a game made in that day in age, with those excelelent graphics (for it's time and platform), you'd only expect voices to come out of their moving lips. If Metal Gear Solid did it, why couldnt FFVIII? this is all in my humble opinion.

I really did like X's soundtrack, but IX (barely) tops it for me. Loss of Me, Melodies of Life, Kuja's Theme, You Are Not Alone, and The Place I'll Return To Someday are just a few of my favorites.

No game is perfect. Because if it was then it would be the end of the world and developers wouldn't be making any more games...blah...blah.

But if any SE game comes close to the so-called "perfection" I know the popular opinion is going to be FFVII, BUT I am going to go with either FFVI or Chrono Trigger. More of FFVI though. Mainly because I felt FFVI was the ultimate fantasy of a 2D JRPG gamer. It combined not only the traditions and the staples of the series from it's medievial games like FFIV,but it also implemented the sci-fi part (which would be seen in FFVII,FFVIII and FFX in the future) really well.

The gameplay was really balanced and the characters were endearing. In my opinion, that is ALL a JRPG gamer could wish for.Oh and I forgot to mention about the awesome musical score. One of Uematsu's finest works. :D

you see that's the stuff I like to hear. Not countless bickerings over which game is stupid and genius to another..ahem*, not pointing fingers. We all have our opinions and although we may not particularly like a certain game, it doesnt mean we can trash it, because it may be another person's 'savior', and especially if there's no "umph" behind the complaint.Yah, either way.

I never played VI but I'm glad to hear good things about it. The only other thing a JRPG gamer could wish for other than endearing characters and balanced gameplay is a solid, intricate, heart-felt story to serve as the game's foundation.
