Really, I don't think I can wait. I haven't imported a game from Japan ever, and haven't even thought about it. Even before I saw that "40/40" on Famitsu, I was hyped up for this game. Oh but now, now that I've seen it, woo...heh. I really cannot wait. Now, I can buy it when it comes out and import it, and I honestly don't give a flip about not being able to understand it at all, I really just want to play the game and actually run around in Ivalice, all that nice stuff.

The only problem I have is...Japanese games cannot run on American PS2s. I know I can buy a region free DVD/CD encoder (ala: Freeloader for Gamecube) but I can't find one for the damn PS2. I see one for Gamecube, Xbox, even some sort of PC encoder. But I can't find one for the PS2. If someone could find me one from a reliable internet site that I could order, I'd be eternally grateful. I don't even know if I'm going to import, but if I do, I want to be ready so I can order as fast as I can before, or right when it comes out.

one question, even if u get the thing for you ps2, how will you know where to go? i mean it would be sweet having the game but you wont be able to understand the commands or know anything of what your doing. it would be a big waste of money unless your like that Savant guy who can learn a language in one week

Alright, thanks a lot.

To Dab: Well, you may be right about one thing, I might be confused for a little while. But as with 99% of things in life, many things can be solved with trial and error. Just as an example, I'm horrible at Math, yet I get As and Bs most of the time on all of my tests, how? Simply do half the problem (I'm not that bad) and then rule out the others that are completely useless. That's what I'll do with XII. Since I have the demo, I know about the battle system, menu, etc. And as for knowing where to go... Well once again, trial and error. I mean, I know the game is very non-linear, which I love, but at some point it has to shove you in the right direction, and that's what I'll follow.

Plus, I'll be getting this for my birthday (April 27) so I won't be spending a penny on it, and then that still gives me months and months until the American release of XII. I'm not expecting to get it in America til around September - November. So I have a while, and as it is now, I'm going crazy just thinking about it. Anyway, thanks for the concern.

Have patience. Are you saying that you can't find ANYTHING to do or play until Final Fantasy XII is released in the US?

Well, I have Kingdom Hearts II, coming out not to long from now. I know that will last me a very long time, as I heard just as it is, the game is fairly long, and I'll be getting 100% on it, so it will last me even longer. But I doubt it will last 5-6 months. I mean, yeah I guess I can wait. Plus, I just checked out this Swap Magic deal, and it seems untrustworthy, as I looked on some forums on a gaming site and saw numerous people complaining about it. Yeah, I guess I'll wait, I'm just craving a new and innovative RPG real bad. :x But I can play KH II, Shadow Hearts: From the New World, and I think a few others will be coming out between now and XII's U.S. release. Thanks.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I know exactly how you feel. There are always games out there that I want to get the first day it's released, but I've saved a bundle by just waiting for it to come to the U.S. and letting it drop in price...unless it's Halo. :P

It's painful but in the long run, waiting is the best option.

Alright, so let me get this straight. You want to import a STORY intensive game, for the sole reason of experiencing the gameplay mechanics rather than the story. You want to play with the combat system (which you already have tried) and explore Ivalice all the time ignoring the backbone of the game which is its astounding story. Not to mention you might have problems with swap discs unless you have a top loading Playstation 2 (i.e. they are designed to work with toploading consoles more often than not).

I understand wanting to have it (I imported Final Fantasy XI and see myself importing many Japanese/Korean games once I finally get a PSP) but your not going to be able to enjoy it to its fullest. I played Final Fantasy IX in spanish with a good understanding of Spanish (albeit on par with how well I speak it now) and many, many things flew over my head and I struggled to comprehend half of the things being said, so with a Japanese copy you are going to understand nothing.

There is only so much you can achieve through trial and error, especially when you see that the combat system may not undergo any immediatly apparent changes when you change something in the menu. If you do important you'll only be doing yourself a disservice as at most you'll be getting half of the experience. From the fact that you will most probably have to mod your console in order to play this (the reason those disc arent too popular is because they arent as reliable at playing imported games as modded consoles) and your experience will be marred by a lack of understand.

With games like Kingdom Hearts II coming out this March 28 in the US you have a short wait for the next amazing game from Square-enix. Trust me, in this case waiting for the game is well worth it... and this is coming from a European gamer, where Dragon Quest VIII still hasnt launched, and when it does next month it wont include the XII demo and we have no Kingdom Hearts II release date.

Yes, I see what you're saying. Eh, I'll wait. Damn, I'm usually very patient. This is truly the first time I've gotten this excited about a game (besides when Zelda: Twilight Princess was announced..). Yeah, I've looked over my options and I've seen that there are numerous other RPGs, as well as some other games coming out that look amazing, also. Thanks for the input, everyone.

Bad idea. Kingdom Hearts II coming in 14 days ought to hold you over. Final Fantasy games are dialogue-heavy. You need to know what people are saying to enjoy the full experience. You could go ahead and get it, but you know from the previous releases that the American version will also have many less bugs and a little more features.

Yup, 14 days and it will be ours. WOOT! :D  I love reading, or listening to dialogue in games, cause it does make it a better experience for us too enjoy.
