I like both of them. i really fall in love with the Squaresoft games back in the 1990's. as for Enix, i have interest also with their games like the DQ games and of course my all time favorite rpg Valkyrie Profile.

Squaresoft, no doubt! The games were of supreme quality, they were made with their "hearts"... because they were a young company striving to have a secure place on the gaming market, their games were always inspired....

Now they're a company that rips you off(sometimes) and remakes everything, while giving them a spinoff.

Well all one sided here, Squaresoft supreme. I agree though, they've made some excellent quality games, especially on SNES and PSX. I'm glad to be around the right time to experienced plenty of their games. Enix are doing well though, can't deny them.

I never had played any Enix games and had every single Squaresoft game pretty much and I was disappointed when they merged but Final Fantasy is still good and the new games coming out by Square Enix seem to be sweet as well.

Squaresoft-Final Fantasy II(IV) was the first RPG I ever played and loved-I liked some of Enix's titles as well but I loved Squaresoft FAR more.

I think the merger is the worst thing to ever have happened to the two companies. DQ is noticed more now-but the FF games since the merger have sucked in comparision-and the company just...have gone from being great RPG makers to a bunch of milkers between all the remakes and FFVII compilation and the Cell Phone games (Parasite Eve III should NOT be for cell phones)

Squaresoft is the best.  I'm glad somebody has brought this topic up.  I've always been disappointed with the merger, though I suppose Squaresoft had to do it to gain financial security since endeavours like FF The Spirits Within flopped.  I agree with some of the other people that have posted about the drop in quality of games since the merger.  The last two big games that Squaresoft did, which were FFX and Kingdom Hearts were DAMN good.  Some of the games that have come out since then could have definitely been better.  Kingdom Hearts II, while beoing a good game, does not live up to the first Kingdom Hearts.  I think it's a wonderful game with a good story, but the overall quality in the story line and pacing could've been better.  Also the game was way too easy.  Final Fantasy XII is an absolute masterpiece on all levels whether it be the graphics, presentation, music, or the battle system.  However, the story does seem to be a little bit bare bones at times with few instances of character development.  There is really only one instance per character in the game where there is actual delving into the characters psyche.  The style of the story telling resembles FF Tactics.  This is fine except for the fact that in FF XII you can actually inteact with the world around you and have an entire party of characters who actually impact the story line.  I was simultaneously amazed, and a teensy bit dissapointed with FF XII.  I know that Square Enix can live up to Squaresoft, and it looks like from some of their upcoming PS3 games that are coming up that they might bring the magic back.  Lets hope that it does.

I agree. I mean, I've played Actraiser 2, Valkyrie Profile, and Star Ocean 3. Valkyrie Profile was pretty nice andreminded me of old-school games like Astrynax (whichI felt waskinda cool). Star Ocean was pretty great too. But, I dont think they compare to something like Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 7 in terms of how much passion flowed from them overall.Even some of Square's lesser known titles offeredalot of enjoymenttoo(whether it was the humor and charmof Brave Fencer Musashi or the suprising amount of fun/challenge from Einhander). But, I'd be interested in knowing if anyone can mention some titles from Enix that are as equally amazing.

that reminds me---all of you have to play the original Actraiser---it's one of the best Enix games in my opinion (its an SNES title and it's also available on the Wii VC)...it's freaking great.

It's a bit of an unfair question since Enix simply didn't have as many games nor exposure in North America. Nonetheless, Squaresoft is still my favourite of the two because they had so many games and the majority of them were awesome. Especially those released on the SNES and PlayStation. In between the time of those two consoles is where Square really shined.

Squaresoft definately. They had other small games other than the Final Fantasy series, and infact one recently got remade into a PS3 game if I remember correctly. The name of the game was like Creed or something. Even though Enix were the first ones to really invent the concept of RPG, Squaresoft is the company who took it to the extremes!

Square all the way.  I have too many good memories linked to old square games.
