[QUOTE="Kenshin18"][QUOTE="queen_valentine"][QUOTE="S_Jake"] [QUOTE="queen_valentine"]Is Xenogears in any way shape or form like Xenosaga? 'Cause I'm all about trying new games, but if it's like Xenosaga....then I'm going to pass it up.S_Jake
Not really, I personally consider it a standalone game. It has a fantastic story (much better than Xenosaga's), excellent music and the visuals are okay, despite the 2D sprites looking a bit rough against the 3D backgrounds (this is easily forgiven, though). The battle system works like a turn-based ATB, complete with the gauges, but the action stops for a character's turn.
Overall, the game is absolutely brilliant except for the fact that it clearly wasn't finished (as evidenced by the second disk), but it's well worth buying regardless.
Thanks for the insight there! I really disliked Xenosaga (just for how slow the pacing of the storytelling was....sooooo many cutscenes) so I didn't know if Xenogears was like it too - in that sense.
It sounds good otherwise - but what do you mean that it wasn't finished? Is the story not properly ended? Does it just cut off?
Hahaha, sorry for all the questions there...
Well...Xenogears was originally supposed to be a 6-part game series, so, because only one game was released and then the team left Squaresoft, they sorta had no choice but drop the original Xenogears story, andstart over with Xenosaga. But, you could enjoy the game on it's own. I'd say the only similarity to Xenosaga is certain family names, familiar faces, and some (not alot) or the dialogue/cut-scenes can be long. Any long cutscene in Xenogears is most likely going to dwell deep into philosophy and religion (again, these are rare compared to Xenosaga).
What Kenshin says is correct, but I was referring to the fact that Xenogears blatantly wasn't finished (have I said this somewhere else recently?). On disk two, there's loads of text to read instead of things to actually do (I was wondering where the rest of the game was at this point ;) ) and what few areas and battles there are feel like some odds-and-ends that have been haphazardly tossed together in place of the actual game (which had been quite brilliant up to this point).
Don't let this put you off buying the actual game though, because it's very good nonetheless. :)
Hmm....I am still not convinced. Don't worry, it's not you guys's brillaint explaining :) It's just that I was REALLY put off by the ridiculous amount of extremely long cutscenes in Xenosaga. If Xenogears has any of that, I will not play the game. I don't have the patience to watch all that when all I wanna do is play the darn game already! :P
