Well X1 and PS4 owners here we are, coming up to the first year mark of the latest consoles being released, so how many of you desperately need, or have already upgraded or don't even bother with a larger hard drive ?

I believe their is like 25 to 30 games on disc for each system, about 20 full games along with Live and PSN games offered on each network for download, so is anyone sweating or resolving the hard drive issue or what ?

well the X1 can just plug in an external

But honestly, this doesn't seem like such a big issue. Can't the PS4 play a game while it's installing?

No and it's not an issue for either system for different reasons.

I have about 380GBs free on my PS4 and about 330GBs free on my Xbox One.

Should be more than enough for the entire generation for me....since they are secondary gaming platforms.

Yea but once its installed, and you have no room for a new game...you run into a problem, well not really because you can just install and internal HD on the ps4 with more space.

The point of his comment is because you can just delete old games you don't play anymore. If you decide you want to play it again, can just install and start playing pretty quickly. So no real need for a new HDD.

On PS4 it seems like a nonissue. PS3 took forever for installs and downloads, but Sony actually provided some substantial solutions for the PS4. I have about 217gb left after downloading all the psn plus titles from launch until this point and then 4 full length titles. That might seem worrisome, but the installs are so quick you can easily delete and reinstall with very little to no inconvenience. All you need to do is go to the library tab to redownload content from the pan store and disc based games are hassle-free. Installed AW today (40some gb) with the biggest hold up being the loading screen to start the game.

I have very little space on my HDD on the PS4, but its a none issue for me. when a 42GB game only takes a minute to install I can just delete games I have not played in months, and install new ones. I can easily get a 2TB HDD in there, but I just dont see the point atm. On my X1 I have plenty of space, since I have few games on that.

No because I just delete the physical game installs and if I want to play the game again I just re-install it and it only takes seconds. Plenty of room still.

Even when it's downloading, you can still play it I believe. This whole problem with the hard drive feels overblown for these consoles. If anything, it highlights the problem with Steam and PC games not allowing you to play them while they download. Especially considering that more and more games are 30+ gigs.

Naw. I just delete games and install new ones. It seems like i can have 8-10 games installed at once and that's plenty. I have no plans to update either console.

Installed a 1 TB hard drive as soon as I purchased my PS4 last year. And I have plenty of games to play on it. Seems like the scrubs and trolls like to keep saying that. Nice job kiddos.

I don't see why I need to keep all my games installed at all times. Haven't played something in a while: delete. If I wanna play something again, I can always DL / install it later and you can start playing while it's downloading or installing. So: no. 500GB is fine.

@Slimmin360: I bought a 1.5 TB HDD for my PS4 the day after I received it. I saved my save files to my USB thumb drive, installed the new HDD, reloaded the games and I was good. For my XBox One I have about 70GB left, so I bought a 4TB external HDD for it. Now I can just switch back and forth when installing new games. By the time the PS4 finally supports external HDD, I'll be able to get a 4TB external drive for that system as well.

I have managed to fill up both. I've been deleting game installs just to play games like DriveClub and Sunset Overdrive. One of these days I will install a 2 TB drive in the PS4 and get another external to use on the Xbox One.

Yes I'm in need of a larger drive for my Xbox One. I have deleted old games but I like to jump back on and play multiplayer (which means I normally have to wait for full install on the games I deleted).

I'm def going to invest in an external hard drive so that I dont have to play the waiting game when re-installing.

Not yet, should be good for another year. I have all the GWG games, the complete Titanfall experience, Child of Light, Pinball, Golf, and Diablo 3: RoS on the hard drive and I'm at 48%.

I would need like a 10TB system to hold everything by the end of the generation. I have already had to delete several things from my PS4 to make room... which pisses me off. I have not completely filled my X1 yet.

I have room for the MCC and that's it. The cloud will allow me to delete games and reinstall them anytime, with saves waiting to be sync'd up. I would hate to do that so I might just get an external HDD>

Well I only have 3 PS4 games so far and with 2 more coming this month I still have extra room, there will still be some 150 GB left for a couple more games and then do what most, delete games that I don´t play on a regular basis.

@Slimmin360: Well to be honest, I have bought quite a few PS4 games already(well over 5 since PS4 launched)

But the thing is that I have already traded in a few titles torwards new titles (I traded in Destiny torwards Ghost, I have traded in Watch Dogs too earlier in the year) and so I have deleted previous games off the HDD, I still have a good amount of room on my HDD for another 2 games at least or more (I currently own A Realm Reborn, FIFA 14 , NBA 2k15, Call of Duty AW all installed on my Ps4 and no issues here)

I don't see myself ever playing so many games on the PS4 at the same time that I'll ever run into an issue. Especially since I can play a game while it is installing.

Now if they all start coming out as large as GTA V....

Done a long time ago, 500GB was nothing for me, have a 4TB external beast hooked up to my Xbox One, a must have if you play different games a lot and go digital, and probably not as useful you go physical only....they need to make the 1TB standard now

In practical terms, yes, there´s a bunch of videos in YouTube for you to watch on which HDDs work best, how to install them and what to do.

As long as it is USB 3.0 then any will work

I bought an USB 3.0 enclosure for my hard drive that I had sitting here, and it works fine
