10 game series earns 51% of revenue on PS, apparently

Read an article here about PS full fiscal year revenue and apparently 10 game series (and single game) earns more money than the rest 9000 games available on PS.

• EA Sports FC (single game for now, will become franchise will successive releases, EA FC25 planned for Sept. launch)
• Apex Legends (single game)
• Call of Duty (franchise)
• NBA 2K (franchise)
• Fortnite (single game)
• Genshin Impact (single game)
• MLB The Show (franchise)
• Destiny (franchise)
• Grand Theft Auto V (single game)
• Madden

Of course its highly unlikely these games earns that much and the website is just looking for quick money fanwars bait post but it shows why so many devs chasing online multiplayer, mtx and loops to get engagements from players. Its a money maker.

I’ve brought this up in the past. Publishers have been in panic mode over this. They can’t figure out a way to get gamers off Fortnite, Roblox and Minecraft.

It's not those games that are generating the revenue rather it's the lack of high quality games. Too many live service games instead of single players. God of War is an example of a high quality single player game. We should have gotten a Days Gone 2.

They want too much even when a game sells well but the critic bomb it they won't do a sequel hence Days Gone 2 not being greenlit. Additionally the writing is lacking in some AAA's it may just be the real good developers are doing their own thing now and working on smaller franchises and all those grandfathered great devs no longer work for the top companies.

Consolidation hit the industry hard with sony buying up all these studios and microsoft as well. Improve the writing, cut the live service DLC mumbo jumbo and make high quality single player games.

Also if you're going to do live service make the battle pass stay forever so people can actually take their time and finish them. Hats off to Deceive Inc for doing that.

It's kind of curious how they're in panic mode that service-based games are sort of the biggest revenue generator (due to microtransactions) but at the same time they need to steal these players from games they've been playing for 10+ years...

...but then the quality of these newer games is so shit that they can't retain players for 10+ years...

...so then they freak out and keep trying instead of learning the correct lesson...

...which is, imo, don't make service-based games and just make more and better one-and-done titles.

Every publisher is looking to land their own huge whale when really all they need to do is just find a nice pod of juicy dolphins to slaughter...

Every people I know, even online, complains about microtransactions in full priced sports games, and yet, here are 4 of them.

PC usually not the lead platform but they can take it. Pretty severe over there with even more options like LoL, DoTA 2 and whatever else MTX.

I am surprised by Genshin Impact earning so much revenue on PS. It seemed everyone just plays that game on mobile or PC.

That averages out to $1.5 billion annual revenue per franchise.

It weirds me out that people will put zero time in researching games they might also like

PS5 doesn't get all the games though.

Genshin has made over $5 billion from mobile, in addition to billions from PlayStation and PC. That would make it the highest-grossing game of this decade.

Yep. PS actively make deals with these higher budget F2P games too I think tower of fantasy and the recently released Zenless Zone Zero got a PS console exclusive release. Lots of friends that I know off played the games on PS4/PS5. Too late for me to start genshin though always hated missing out of exclusive seasonal content.

Reading that chart in the OP is entirely depressing.... Like seeing tangible proof that the gaming of my youth is just not on the minds of these publishers.

@TheEroica: Can't blame the publishers, you have to blame gamers for allowing this to happen. If gamers didn't play these games and purchase BS micros we would have better games and thus a better industry.

The “casuals” dictate the industry because they spend money. The “hardcore” voted with their wallets. Just not in the way they intended. It’s like gaming is the only hobby where the “hardcore” are also the thrifty consumer. That’s usually the casual consumer.

On PS5, its loading speed is very fast, so it is very popular in Asia and Japan.The same goes for Honkai Star Rail
