You cant play them in offline-mode unless you first go online and change setting for that game....

aroxx_ab

You stipulated that the internet must go down. Thus, the internet must have been working, or you had access to it. Also, you don't have to change for settings for any particular game. So long as my Steam client has been up-to-date, i've been able to play the vast majority of my games in offline mode. Those exempt from this are MMOs/always-on DRM games, for obvious reasons.

Your own limitations are biting you in the ass here.

---

I can easily play my games in offline mode, and on occasion, I do.

I have no limitations, i can play steam in online-mode and other online services 24/7 if i want to. I have not sucky Internet-connection.

Your arbitrary limitation stipulated that the internet went down. Indicating that it was at one point, "up". Stick to the argument at hand... It doesn't help when you jump all over the place with irrelevant points.

Now:

  1. Steam Offline mode exists, and works.
  2. Other DD services exist, as well as hard copies.

Poor Hermits, Gaikai will destroy your gaming PC's in the future. It will take away the thing you admire the most, graphics.

I don't want attention i'm just stating facts, gaikai will eventually replace expensive gaming PC's that constantly need new hardware to keep up with new games.

You cant play your Steam/PC games either when Internet goes down, most of them require constant Internet access. After all, PC gaming is all about MMO/RTS online.

aroxx_ab

Prove that most of them require constant internet access. Steam has an offline mode.

No, it's not.

also not true

games don't have individual settings for offline mode

you only need to do it with your steam account once

Maybe expensive gaming PC's will not die out for the people who don't have internet or have a bad connection but the truth is Gaikai will always have the best graphics, so Hermits will never be able to brag about something anymore because all they do is brag about graphics.

Davekeeh

Not necessarily. If it's essentially like OnLive, then the games will be run via server blades... Many of them. There comes a point where upgrading every server blade regularly becomes too expensive. Especially if the service cannot maintain enough of a client-base.

Now, if it "will always have the best graphics", how will it have the best graphics for those with an insufficient internet service? Watch your use of the term "always";)

At the end of the day, local machines are a proven model. Cloud-services are still in their infancy, especially for something like this. Whilst I agree it is the likely future, using it as your sole argument is just ignorant.

I think right now he's just attempting to raise his level to 10. Everything he says is just a troll attempt or to increase his number of posts. If he had any brains though he would realize that there were faster ways to increase your level.

I'll give you 1, 3, 4, 7, and 9. The rest are either iffy or incorrect. 2. A growing number of PC games are $60, and those that aren't are $50. Not much cheaper. 5.Backwards compatibility still exists on everything but the newest PS3 and Wii models, so most consoles this gen have BC. Even if they didn't, why throw away your old games if you still own the old console? 6.Steam is great, I'm just taking exception to the "free DLC" statement. That is flat out not true. Tons of PC games are charging for DLC on Steam now. 8.Not true. Not much else to say.

1.Superior Graphics.

2.PC games are much cheap than 60$ console games.

3.Free Online ( with exception of mmorpg's like WOW etc).

4.Mods,Cheats,Tweaks.

5.No need to discard any PC games unlike console games ( Discard PS 2 games after buying PS 3, Discard Xbox games after buying Xbox 360). Any older PC games can run on newer O/S by tweaks.

6.Steam (free DLC's,cheapest game deals/bundles)

7.Can upgrade PC components like Ram,CPU,GPU anytime you wish than discarding your PC

8.80% of console games eventually get ported to PC.

9.Vast Library of games ( old skool to next gen )

10. above all :

PC CAN DO ANYTHING ( 3D,Blu Ray,Pron,Movies,Music,Video Gaming,Work,Study)

So conclusion PC is superior to consoles.

Any questions?

Out side of constant online DRM games (ie ubisoft) all other singleplayer games will work in offline mode, unless you checked the box to not save your steam credentials

6.Steam (free DLC's,cheapest game deals/bundles)Steam is a rippoff at new games. And you dont own the games you pay for at steam, it is like a rental service. Games i buy for consoles i own and can do what i want with. Can sell them or friends can borrow them etc.

parkurtommo

lol, see, denying an opinion is normal... But you're denying facts... Steam sales (that includes virtually all PC games) typically range from 2$ to 20$ (LA Noire was 5 euros 2 months ago or so), and launch prices will range from 50-60... But no one buys at launch unless they're dumb (What?, People don't buy new games?)... Online functionality is removed, assuming there was one in the first place lol. On PC servers will always be there (BFME2, as well as other EA games were disabled on PC aswell). Steam games depend on a platform (your account), PS30 games depend on a platform (your console). Hell today I was bored so I installed steam on the computer I was using (was not at home) and installed Terraria... You can't do that with ps3 :D

Console gaming has the ablity to try games before buying (friends house, rentals) Trading in games for newer games, local multiplayer, unified multiplayer (not everyone is using steam, not all games use steam, all ps3 games and xbox games are on xbox live meaning I can communicate with any of my friends without 3rd party tools.) Im a pc gamer, you're full of ****

PC gaming has the ability to try games before buying them (friends house, demos)

You can sell old PC games (disks ofc you idiots) and trade that cash for newer games.

LAN - Local area network.

Unified multiplayer? Since when has mutliplayer been crossplatform between Wii/360/PS3?

PS3 games on Xbox live? If you need 1st party products, theres microsoft messenger which allows me to communicate with people on steam, origin and wow at the same time.

You need to rethink your arguement before calling other people out.

Pretty much this.

The social aspect of XBL makes it so most of my friends are on XBL (even tho we all have computers, we use XBL because we're not all using Steam, Teamspeak, Vent, Skype, etc.)

It's this unified aspect that keeps people together, and gives the platform a social value beyond xyz.

The PC "freedom" is one reason why on PC I can never seem to keep a friend for longer than 6 months, because either they move on or I move on.

My best friends were people I met on Eve Online.

We said we'd keep in touch by e-mail etc, but there's no motivation to do that, and we end up talking like once a year.

Meanwhile on my 360 I have alot of friends and we talk often.

So when it comes time to make a decision whether to renew my XBL Gold, it's hard to say "F*ck microsoft, I'm not paying for online" because I miss my friends.

And anyway if you think XBL won't become mandatory on Windows, you're dreaming.

Microsoft controls both platforms and they want money.

So either pay now or pay later, it's the future and you can't really fight it.

You need not buy games tied to a Steam account. Yes, they do exist, but there are many with which you are not required to have a Steam/Origin account.

Why do you seem to think you need an online form of DRM for every game? You are clearly misinformed :?

As to your second point, it's woefully incorrect. Yes, certain games may be tied to Steamworks, but others are not. Furthermore, there are DD services out there which do not require you to be connected.

Console gaming has the ablity to try games before buying (friends house, rentals) Trading in games for newer games, local multiplayer, unified multiplayer (not everyone is using steam, not all games use steam, all ps3 games and xbox games are on xbox live or psn meaning I can communicate with any of my friends without 3rd party tools.) Im a pc gamer, you're full of ****

slimjimbadboy

PC gaming has the ability to try games before buying them (friends house, demos)

You can sell old PC games (disks ofc you idiots) and trade that cash for newer games.

LAN - Local area network.

Unified multiplayer? Since when has mutliplayer been crossplatform between Wii/360/PS3?

PS3 games on Xbox live? If you need 1st party products, theres microsoft messenger which allows me to communicate with people on steam, origin and wow at the same time.

You need to rethink your arguement before calling other people out.

You cannot rent games or trade in bad ones, you cannot lend a game to a friend or use a friends game at your house without needing there entire account, there is Lan is on xbox and PS3 aswell, Unified Multiplayer for each system.

Problem is, PC is mainly DD and not as accessible as, say, a Wii. Most people who have PC's use it for movies or internet or chatting, not games. I think when it comes to fun factor, Nintendo greatly outweighs PC in that department. Plus you need to pay so much money to get what makes PC good, but you can easily just have as much creative fun with a $200 Wii as a $2000 PC. What does PC even have other then graphics?.

1.Yes it works if you first prepare in online-mode, its principle that you need online for SP games i don't like, even if you only need it short time. Thats 1 reason why i like SP games for consoles

What on Earth are you talking about? I'm talking an online form, such as Steam or Diablo 3's always-on DRM. Maybe you should understand the argument before jumping in the middle of it;)

LOL good luck with that when your internet connection goes down and you can't play anything

Also good luck with that when bandwidth caps really are enforced for all ISP's and you can only play about a week out of the month!

BTW how is Onlive doing right now? Not toppling consoles or PC I see. Hmmmmm

rilpas

You cant play your Steam/PC games either when Internet goes down, most of them require constant Internet access. After all, PC gaming is all about MMO/RTS online.

not true on both counts

and even if PC was all about MMO/RTS that's still more then what the PS3 got this year ( which is to say: jack sh*t)

I'm using the money that I have not been spending on PS3 games to make some major PC upgrades. Just bought a new graphics card! :) (I still love my PS3, but there hasn't been much new content to play lately, and multiplats are almost always a lot better on PC.)

1. Mods aren't vanilla, I don't think it's fair to include mods in the formula since not everybody can mod their computers. It requires prior knowledge which some people may not have. 2. More games is purely subjecctive. For example, if you dont like RTS and MMORPG games, 60% of PC's library becomes useless. There isn't variety which is very important. 3. F2P games aren't even good except for maybe TF2 (but even that gets boring fast). 4. I'll give you that, improved performance is always good. 5. Yeah but not all games support those control schemes. You dont have much innovation on PC because games need to support it. Like when Nintendo made Wiimote, all devs had to support it so there was innovaton. U get what im saying?

btw there are fully working emulators for every console up to ps2 including handhelds so you've got better bc for consoles than the actual consoles

which you can play with the wonderful 360 controller instead of, well, you know.

BigDaddyPOLO

Heck, there's an emulator for the Gamecube and Wii! PC has better Wii backwards compatability than the Wii U, since unlike Wii U it runs the games in 1080p (and you can even download hi-res texture packs to make them look nicer).

bCmLM.jpg

PCs have more robust backwards compatibility than any of the next-gen consoles will, because they can play EVERYTHING. Heck, we will probably see PS3 and Xbox 360 games running on PCs long before we ever see backwards compatibility for them on their next-gen counterparts (fat chance they will bother with it, given that only a high-end PC can hypothetically handle that kind of emulation). PC has always been the best place to be when it comes to legacy games, even if you don't have a high-end machine.

installing mods really isn't an advanced technique. sometimes it's as simple as installing a normal program or dragging and dropping a file into a folder.

Modding Skyrim couldn't be easier. There is a program called Nexus that manages all of your mods for the game, so all you have to do is click the checkboxes for which mods you want enabled. Modding PC games has never been easier.

Yes I'm sure Nintendo will be happy to put enhanced versions of their games on SONY'S streaming service. :|
