10/10 in this day and age will never ever happen again cause 10/10 is a perfect score and there was and never will be a perfect game. Standards for gaming, especially high budget series, are waay to high today. MGS4, GTA4 and SMG2 were clearly not perfect games, but the review system back then was light and was clearly based off preference for the series. So only fools will try to hype any game 10/10 from now on because a perfect game is impossible to make and the review systems have changed for the better? BUT all hope is not lost. COD may be immune to this somehow and MW3 might just score 10/10.

No noticeable flaw = Perfect game only games with flaw = not perfect game

every game has its flaws, and i do mean every. single. game. what prime or 10/10 indicates in the eyes of gamespot is that there was no noticable way in which the devs could enhance the game any further to make it a better game, you can argue that against each of the games which have recieved 10/10 here all you would like to but your opinion is different form the persons who reviewed those games and as such your point of view will most likely not line up with the person who reviewed said games.

Has there been any perfect game with multiple reviews? No. There is a 100% chance there will be another called perfect game from one review.

It's possible, but I doubt it will occur to MW3.That game has way too many things against it. TheCOD franchise is also slowly decreasing in quality.

If 10 is an unachievable score.. then 9.5 is the new ten seeing as how thats the best rating a game can possibly recieve.. So then no game would be able to get that either, and so on...

There is no point in having a scale if you aren't able to utilize all of it.

The guys giving scores are no more then humans, so to give an example let's take the graphics of STALKER Shadow of Cernobl vs the graphics of Crysis. If the reviewer likes a more photorealistic style of graphics representation it will give Crysis 9 and STALKER an 8 or an 8.5. On the other hand if he preffers a more artistic aproch he will give STALKER 9 aswell as Crysis 9 couse it has better texture quality. Couse you see there are no perfect things when it comes to games, there will allways be the posibility for better textures, for the graphics to serve it's purpose better, better sound samples and so on. Bottom line is they are humans and like every human they like different things and alltough they try not to show it they don't allways succed.

That is a PRETTY GOOD description. I believe GS and/or IGN used to use Perfect as the descriptor and now IGN uses Masterpiece and I think GS uses Prime or something. Nothing is perfect, but not giving a 10 is stupid.

How hypocritical. I've noticed a lot of people here seem to think the scale of gaming is just like grades in school. They're not. I'm going to put you into this group. A 100 on a test is a perfect score.

They'll probably give 10/10 to some games early next gen when they are blow away by them. Then later in the gen everyone will complain about how overrated those perfect 10's are, and how could xyz game score an 8.5 when game abc scored 10.0.

Eh... well back in the day, we still had the same logic. "There are no perfect games" logic still exists and yet somehow lately games aren't scoring 10's. Well, it's because we're in the middle of the generation and it is harder now for devs to do something new and immerse. That's why lately there's 8.5 games such as Dead Space 2, DA2, and Crysis 2 (They are NOT FLOPS). Because they have by now used most of the power from each consoles. Meaning that graphics won't improve that much from now on too. The graphics will still significantly improve in a few years but not at a rapid rate like in the first few years of a generation (same thing with gameplay). It happens every generation. Here's a better logic=later the generation the less likely there will be 10's.

Translation: there has not been a single Xbox 360 exclusive that has received a 10/10. And yes it will happen again. You may not agree with the concept of a "perfect" 10/10, but games are still receiving the highest score possible.

No it doesn't. Not on GS at least. If you want to only hand out 10/10 to games that you consider are perfect or want to read reviews that only hand outthat score to a game that the reviewer regards as perfect then be my guest. But on GS there is no "perfect." Furthermore, reviews are based off of each individual's opinion, and so you can say 10.0 means perfect, but how are you to know everyone rating games rates with the same mentality as you? It just isn't possible.

Exactly what I meant. No one can tell you if for you that game will be a 10 or something else. We are all different and want different features in games.

Yea, I try to never base my purchasing decision on critic ratings. They overrate everything as it is, don't encourage them to start giving everything a 10 again.

Apparently GS says it means "Prime" which I would guess its better than any other game its genre and has no noticeable flawsBPoole96
http://www.gamespot.com/misc/reviewguidelines.html10.0: Prime This exceedingly rare score refers to a game that is as perfect as a game can aspire to be at its time of release. Obviously, the constantly changing standards for technology and gameplay will probably make this game obsolete some day, but at its time of release, a game earning this score could not have been improved upon in any meaningful way. -- I've too often refuted the TC's argument. Unless one uses the entire review scale at least once in a while, it poses the development of a paradox that ruins the entire system. If "10" is unattainable, then 9.5 becomes the "best" score. And since the logic carries that no game can get the "best" score, then 9.5 and so on gets eliminated. And if the content is there, with a high level of polish, I can see Forza 4 getting a 10.

The 20 point scale gamespot and many use needs to be done away with.. Anything below 70% is considered by most as not worth getting inless at a severe discount.. So why do we have multiple shades of crap in ****fying the game and only a few in ****fying a good game? I would love to see Gamespot to go to a 5 star system.. In which 1 star = bad, 2 star =average, 3 star= good, 4 star = great, and 5 star = amazing.. The fact that they are using a percentage system of 5% increments makes it seems like they are using some system on it.. When all they are doing is pulling a number out of their ass.

This is the reason right there people. But the majority here wont understand what this actually means in reality.

The description is exactly what a "10" means to me.

I would absolutely love for all reviewers to take any score system out completely, because most people do not even read the damn review and just look at the score.

Make a review, and sumarise the pros and the cons. That's it, perfect, people will judge if a game is worthy based on the pros and cons, and on the review. I cannot comprehend why other people would disagree. What would be bad about it? Seriously, what would be bad?

10/10 basically means no changes could make it a better game.

Still wonder why RDR and UC2 didnt get 10's. What exactly does a 9.5 mean. You were close to the closeness of perfection?
