Most games on PS3 X360 are 720p or less.

Most games on PS3 X360 are 30fps.

Most games on PS3 X360 are 24 players or less.

Should Next-Gen consoles - the PS4 & X720 have 1080p as standard, 60fps as standard & the option for 64 players (in large scale games like battlefield)?

Would those technological improvements be a sign of the Next-gen consoles?

I don't know about 60fps but 1080p will definitely be the standard next-gen. The reason why I'm not sure about 60fps is because, of course all the games that play at 30fps today will be playing at 60+ fps next gen on the next gen consoles, but there will always be games like Killzone and Crysis that push the graphics on the consoles so far that it's impossible for 60fps. Some will be 60fps, some will be 30fps, it depends all on the game and what the dev wants to achieve. But RAGE with 60 fps is definitely amazing.

All of this is already possible on the PC. Just get a PC and you'll be set.

1080p should the be standard yes. Absolutely. But 60fps won't be a standard ever I don't think. I don't think it works like that. The new consoles will have better hardware yeah, but that also means that games will take advantage of that and become more taxing on the hardware. Just as taxing as they are on current consoles. It balances itself out. 30fps is fine dudes.

60fps on next gen i doubt it. ofc some games with devs that work at it might want a 60fps game for bragging rights or something. But they will just keep pushing the graphical limits as long as they dont go below 30fps. As for 64 players again... Its all down to Sony and M$ bandwith limits. You could still have 24 players.

Where's your ambition? A quad core 3ghz console with 4-6GB & a powerful GPU should be able to run games in 1080p @ 60fps

Consoles will never have a 60 FPS 1080P standard. We'll probably see games at 720p (and sub-HD resolutions) and 30 FPS forever.

1080p is nothing now really by high end PC standarsd today. And my graphics card is 3 years old and can do 1080p 60fps on some games. Next consoles wont have a problem with 1080p.

Have a look at crysis 2 at 2000p :)

I have said it before I'll say it again.

the ps3 and 360 barely breach 720p most of the time next generation the standard should be 720p and hope for 60 fps...don't even try to hit 1080p...

I don't think I own, or have ever played, a single Dreamcast game that had a terrible framerate like the current gen consoles have.

No wonder they call that system the best system ever 8)

There should be set standards, so I can play games instead of slide shows.

I doubt they will, they could do 60fps this gen but they prefer to use that power to get better graphics, I don't see why it would be different next gen.

1080p standard, probably. 60fps, no, the devs will want to squeeze out the pretties instead. 64 players, only for certain games, like this gen.

I think the multiplayer limits are just how the publishers and developers design how the multiplayer works, if they used more dedicated servers they could probably do 64 players easy right now on current consoles, if they don't fix how this works now it won't change how things work in the future.

1080 resolution and 60fps will end up being scaled down to 720 and 30fps once again to squeeze out as much graphically as possible.

I don't understand why people keep expecting 60 fps out of games . If you want developers to push a console , more then likely a game i's going running at 30 fps

There's no question that the next generation of consoles will have power that rival the top computers of today, and they will certainly produce better graphics through intense optimization. but if they use that power for 1080p 60fps standard for all games is a question no one knows. My guess is No, by using this gen as an example, which can't seem to hold up to the 720p standard. Even though the most technically advanced console games run at 720p HD res anyways, alot of games don't and use sub HD resolutions.

Games are developped according to the systems.

It's not like PS3 and X360 games can't do 60fps or 64players or anything.

It's clear that it was inspired here lol. Even if they're capable, I highly doubt any number will be a standard player count like that. They have to specifically design multiplayer to fit that many players. For many games, as a design perspective, 64 is too much regardless.

I don't think you'll ever see 60fps as standard.

Teufelhuhn
this. devs will always try to put as much of the console's power as possible towards graphics and physics and whatnot, leaving only enough power to run at 30 fps. for them to focus on 60 fps would mean the other areas would be worse than a dev who only had 30 fps, and put the rest of the power towards graphics. and in the end, most gamers care more about good graphics than 60 fps. we all know what would happen if SW saw screens of a 60 fps game vs. a 30 fps game.

I'd hope next gen consoles can manage to put out HD and a non-slide show frame rate.

30fps is under the limit of what I would consider playable...

1080p better be standard whats the point of having all this extra Detail in games if its marred by the low resolutions that make games a blurry jaggy mess even the current gen console suffer from there lack of 1080p support so with the graphics of next-gen it will only be worse if they stick to 720p. As for fps devlopers looking to push the envolope in graphics will go for 30fps and other will choice to sacrifice graphical fidelity for smooth 60fps which in certian genres is essential like fighting games its the nature of the closed hardware on consoles.

Yeah it will likely support 4000K resolution on glassless 3d projectors of whatever technology were using at that time and i wonder if sony will really keep adding numbers to there next-gen consoles that high at a certian point it just gets ridiculous.

the reason why current gen consoles cant seem to hold up to 720p is because they are based on cheap technology from 2005. memory-bandwidth is limited on the consoles because the GPUs are restricted by 128-bit databuses.

I bought a gpu that can max out just about every horribly optimized PC game at 1080p and 60fps for $80 back in december (gtx 460). I dont have the massive bargaining power of major console manufacturer... so whats an $80 gpu for me, is probably a $60 gpu for them... in current prices.

In prices 2 years from now they could probably put that same gpu in their console for $30 or less. With console optimization i dont see any logical reason why devs couldnt easily afford the power to process 1080 at 60fps next gen while still being able to maintain all the various graphical effects they want.

1080p and 60fps are cool but most games that i like are console exclusives
