Last gen we all said that this gen should be 60fps standard, it won't happen with consoles because as soon as developers start trying to squeeze more out of them they will drop back down to 30fps. Im hoping by next gen high resolutions will just be something expected and not something to **** about...

I certainly wouldn't complain if we could get 1080p 60fps as standard next-gen.

Not too bothered about the amount of players online because it all depends on the games etc but I have no problems with the idea that those games that are supposed to have lots of the players could support as many as neccessary.

It is not a matter of hardware power, it is getting developers to meet a standard.

More players is not always better, but I would expect 1080p and 60fps to be standard.

Nintendo will do it for the SP games, i can't think of the last Zelda/Mario/Metroid or other big name nintendo game that hasn't been at 60fps and graphically astounding (Astounding for that console, No Wii_____ titles or any other thing like that). They will come close to that 64 player online at 1080p running at 60fps when they make the next F-Zero on their next console, 30 racers at 60fps in 1080p.

i want to see some innovation in the next gen other than higher resolutions.i just dont know what they can do thats revolutionary. motion controls are too gimmicy and i hope they dont become standard.

1080p- I'd bet that'll happen.

I would LOVE to see 60 fps being a standard, it will never happen, and there's not even a strong demand for it because people would rather the graphics be as flashy as possible.

64 players as a standard- that really depends on the game. Some games are much better served by smaller numbers online.

It depends on what graphical concessions would have to be given up by jumping to 1080p. I honestly don't think we'll see 1080p even next generation in terms of native resolution, because the average consumer doesn't know the difference now. The cost in power vs. the difference in quality you get still won't be worth it next generation. I'd rather have a game with great lighting, high res textures, great physics, and everything else, running at 720p smoothly, then a game that is gimped running at 1080p. I'd also rather have a system that does everything at 720p that costs $400 than a 1080p system that costs $700. The difference really isn't that substantial on a television. On a monitor, when you're inches away.? Yes. On a TV when you're a few feet away? No.

I really hope so. There was a time when games might get marked down for frame rate issues just for dipping in the 30s; now it's what we are shooting for? Spend an hour or two playing a PC game at 60FPS, then force drop your FPS to 30. It's simply awful. The more rapid view panning and screen movement, the worse it feels.

If I could travel a decade back in time and tell myself who is playing Quake2 at 100FPS (vsync on) that in the future 30FPS would become a gold standard for gaming and that most displays lag and only do 60hz, I would scarecly believe myself.

What you seem to forget is taht 1080p and 60 fps says nothing. It could might as well be 1080p with 60 fps and the game look all blurry and ancient. Hell, the lastest pacman is 1080 p with 60 fps. The point is that gamedevelopers will always reduce resolution and framerate in order for the game to have better graphics.

A game running at 60fps is more about effort than technology, if devs spent time to really polish their games before sending them out 60fps would already be the standard.

I'd say locking games at 30fps should be a must be standard next gen, res should also be 720p standard, 1080p isn't as needed since the majority of console owners wont have 1080p TVs unlike PC monitor owners.

I'm guess the new MS machine could handle it - Nintendo, I dunno and Sony, I'm thinking they'll go for the quad 1080P @ 120 fps in 4D. :P

Seriously, I'd love 60 fps on everything but it will likely be done on perhaps a few games but 30 fps is enough for most games - we shall see.

we have a winner, i don't understand how people can be satisfied with only better graphics and that's it. that's why this gen is my least favorite one

Yes for 60 FPS, it's one of the reasons CoD is so popular, it plays so smoothly on consoles.
