You do the math and figure out if this really sounds like RRoD. ~1% consoles with basic failures or something indicating that the GPU is slowly being cooked like barbecue? I'll let you work that one out. If you think HillZones will be indicative of how your PS4 experience will be, then by all means, rip the hard drive out of the PC you are reading this post on RIGHT NOW and let me know how that works for you.

Thank you for your market analysis. Though your numbers are a guess, the actual figures are much higher. MUCH.

If you can link to reports of more than 7 people, please be my guest and I will update the OP accordingly up til midnight launch. I've looked everywhere including Reddit.

Just because somebody decides to not to report their issues online or in a forum doesn't mean that the issues don't exist. Out of 4000 people, how many do you think would report defects? Or have already called Sony instead of posting it online?Compare that to millions of people with the console.

Welcome to the year 2013. If you don't have internet then you have family or friend who do. This is a huge product launch and people will weigh in on it. It's not like Sony sent these consoles to a bunch of grass huts in Borneo, dude.

You are correct. OP updated. Sorry, spent a lot of time finding reported console problems and didn't check the figure on the Taco Bell promo. Kinda derpy on my behalf lol

@Shewgenja: So you mean to tell me that the rest 3993 Ps4's since they didnt have any issues on first day are safe forever ? What a stupid statement and what a stupid thread. No one knows the failure rate of a product that is not even on the market yet. It might indeed be 1% it might as well end up another rrod scandal with over 30% failure rate

Is that 7 after a day or two days? Idiot.

And no doubt you made a zillion 360 rrod threads in the past.

Wasn't here for RRoD. RRoD was also a billion dollar mistake.

No small wonder that Lems have their panties in a wad over a few PS4 issues. They are thirsty as hell.

I look forward to the sky is falling threads for the X1 next week. I can't wait to hear about ten X1's developing an "issue" by next Wednesday which will translate into a 100% failure rate for the few million that will be sold next Friday

Even the best PC GPU's and CPU's have issues when they are new. There isn't a product that's perfect. I stood next to a 2.5 million dollar car that had moisture in the taillight. Poop happens!

LOL at people not expecting a percentage to be problematic. I'd imagine they should be quiet until they know the percentage of X1's with issues. And they all have issues.

Which is actually really sad considering MS have seemingly taken a lot of precautions to ensure that the XBone at least has reliable hardware. The proof will be in the pudding, but you are exactly right. 10 people having an issue with a new electronic device is not a pandemic.

Eh....I'd imagine if it was a widespread problem....it would be reported. It's just as much crap to assume problems when they haven't been reported. Which is what you're doing.

Kind of works both ways then. That means that people crying about potential RROD like failures shouldn't be saying anything either.

Dude. Let's cut the shit and talk real for a moment. If someones cousin got a bricked PS4, they would post pics on the net. It ain't happening, dude. It just ain't. Even if 40 people were reporting issues, that would be a 1% attrition rate, which is acceptable in electronics.

So, we'd have to triple the number of actual known problematic PS4s (one of which was a dumbass who caused his own issues by any and all means) and then double THAT number... to get to 1%.

Thank you for playing. Please insert coin to play again.

You also have to get it to your head you cant judge a system failure rate on its first days on launch. It might stay at 1% it might climb to 30% so stop creating stupid threads

because 4000 is a good representation of the million within the first month. The point is that if we are seeing this on an already very small scale, what will happen once millions of units hit the hands of users?

I plan on updating the OP with the "death count" throughout the day. Let's see if the number climbs before midnight. Any and All are welcome to make reports of more failing PS4s (as long as there is photo/vid proof, I'm not going to take an obscure forum post with no evidence as proof).

I'm down to play. Are you?

Really because everyone post on the internet? Where you all not complaining when MS was going to have a check in every 24 hours that everyone does not have internet? hypocrisy at its best.

4000 is a VERY small number compared to what we will see by end of tomorrow.

For me this can't turn out to be any worse then my 360 launch experience. I went through 3 RROD and finally my fourth refurb worked. It got so bad I used to keep a coffin on deck just in case. Unfortunately this is the risk that early adopters take. Hopefully this is nothing more then isolated incidents but I guess we'll find out tomorrow. If mines breaks I'll be sure to come into one of these threads and admit to it.

I find this entire discussion ridiculous....considering no product is ever released with 100% perfect product. The only problematic console in recent years was the 360 since it was not properly engineered. Other than that.....just the typical failure rates that happens all the time in all products. Hell they even recall toys.

The number is actually 9, and there is no clue how many actual PS4's are up and running right now. Hopefully these are isolated circumstances. But its scary as well and worth keeping your eye on.

Did it ever occur to you that people whose PS4's bricked are just very vocal on message boards. I've seen less than 10 reports of the several thousand that are out there already.

When they start mass bricking within a few days of release then we can start panicking and crying RROD v2.

@adamosmaki: but it's okay for lems to make threads that say ps4's breaking everywhere when that hasn't been reported? Double standards much.

The S.D.F. is in overdrive today...lol.

Anyway if there are 7 reports of failures posted, then you can be sure that there are more. It's not like everyone posts their failures on the internet. Most people just call Sony, and wait for a replacement. Not everyone feels the need to be the center of attention.

That being said electronics break, and a launch console is going to have issues. The XBone will probably have issues next week also. Although for some reason I doubt the TC will be defending the low amount of XBone failures. I would imagine there will be links to each and every failure put up, and calls of another RRoD fiasco next week...

Scary that you're about to pay 400 for a system and a few are bricking and you want to know if these are just isolated events or something far bigger and worse. Its called being an adult about a purchase. No one is predicting gloom and doom just saying hell yes it is scary until you have facts that it is not. No one wants to throw away money on day one if the damn thing doesn't work. You're free to continue acting like a child. I expect no less from you.

Yeah but only 7 means the amount is low. I don't subscribe to any console maker per se. But looking from the outside....this number is so small as to be negligible....and unless one has their own bias....they'd see that. It's pointless for anyone to pretend it's a wide spread problem when thus far....there is no reports. And if it were....we'd be hearing it by now.

I agree with your second post. RROD was a disgrace though.

More than likely these are isolated instances and the Xbox One will have them too. Ipad, Iphone, Samsung galaxy, Note, LG, all had some launch issues with defective products. It happens when you are mass manufacturing. In a day we'll know if this is just par for the course or something worse.

No shit Sherlock. It has only been a day or two with a limited number of units. You might want to give it a while. Your slavish loyalty to a piece of plastic has your panties in a bunch. There is no need for this thread; at least yet, hopefully never

You cows are the worst. You dish it out continuously and yet can't take the smallest things. You aren't even smart enough to figure out that a thread like this just gives lemmings another opportunity.

It is 7 or whatever over a day or two. That means nothing, yet. Idiot.

Xbots need something to do while waiting for their second-rate system, so let them have their false accusations about "faulty" PS4s.

So glad I don't have to see lemmings online until they realize they got the wrong system and get a PS4. :}

And this is one thread actually quantifying the issue and trying to determine an objective calculation as to how many people can expect problems on launch day as opposed to what, exactly? I'll be over here, idioting it up while you come up with an answer.
