It can do what other games do but better.
Look at Call of Duty 4. That stood out and it didnt do anything crazy and new.
I think the game will be good.

[QUOTE="lantus"][QUOTE="heretrix"][QUOTE="Episode_Eve"][QUOTE="Nightflash28"]Yeah, and IGN keeps going on about how much fun the game is, and how it keeps impressing...
oh dear god, who to believe?!
*cough*
Nah, seriously, the game looks good. Multiplayer has the potetntial to be great fun as well. I suppose we'll see for ourselves once it comes out..
heretrix
Not only that. Garnet Lee has been pesimistic about KZ2 ever since he wrote his preview a couple of months ago. It's funny how he never mentioned if the A.I. is good or even if the game is fun or not to play. He only griped about simple things he doesn't like (some of them trivial).
While on the other hand, IGN is very optimistic and saying the game is fun. I don't know. I wanna see more up to date previews.
That's Garnett for you.Garnett is the biggest nitpicker on this planet for sure, but I love 1UP Yours. :)
The coolest thing about the entire 1up video/audio group podcasts is that the group has TONS of personality. They are fun as hell to watch and listen to. You may not agree with them, but you are at the very least entertained. It's good stuff.[QUOTE="Velric"][QUOTE="-platy-"]did anyone think otherwise?heretrix
IGN gave it a complete rub down with a happy ending.
So it's a normal preview then?Exactly, people need to stop reading so much into previews. By the way the only negative mention of Killzone 2 I found was at 49 minutes in the 1UP podcast and it wasn't really a shot at Killzone 2. They were just saying they don't understand why people are hyping that game so much while a game like Project Origin has flown under the radar for the most part.
Edit: Whoops nevermind, they said exactly what the OP said they did around the 53 minute mark, but still it was a comparison with Project Origin.

No, i meant people expected something new in an FPS....at this point all i care about is if it plays good, graphics would be nice to :)
i agree with this guy, you get all these people moaning about "new" this and "new" that in fps, some of us only care about how FUN the game is, thats why UT3 on the 360 just became my favorite game on 360 over GEOW cos at the end of the day who cares if kz2 has anything new if It let's you shoot at things and you have fun doing it which is what first person shooters ate all about remember half life 2? just plain funamen bro! a game doesn't need to be innovative just be fun. and yeah this garnett lee seems to hate killzone (since his 1st preview) but then he praises resistance 2. but hey! i'm getting both anyway ;)

Garnett is hit or miss with some things. On one day he's making sense, the next he's out in left field. I like 'em, but I find myself disagreeing with him more and more. 1up is still the best online podcasting/video show on the net imo, despite Garnett being drunk from time to time
i know that fanboys can write articles too, and the ign article was weak. it seemed like it was written by someone who loved it before they played it.. 1up is far more eloquent and actually gives a solid argument as to why it's more a 'been there done that' shooter.
clan system isn't original, it's similar to other systems used in PC shooters in the past. Tribes was similar. it's definitely not unique :)
3picuri3
I know clan systems aren't original, but the way they are implemented. Please explain Tribes clan system, I'm not familiar with it.
Things that make KZ2 stand out
1.) KZ2 has Valor Points as currency for your clan. You can challenge another clan and gamble as many VP as you wish. Winner of the match takes all. The more VP the higher your rank is on the Leader boards. Also, a bungie.net like system.
This also makes for natural match making. The more VP your clan gets the more you will want to gamble. Therfore you only fight clans who are high on the leaderbord as yours.
2.) Squad system. While you are playing you can press a button to form a squad within your team (from 2-4 players total). Once a squad is formed you can only communicate with your squad members. You can aslo see the health and badges of those within your squad. This makes for more tactical gameplay and is also a unique feature. Of course whoever created the squad you can disband them as he is the captain.
3.) The auto game mode function. Instead of going back into the multiplayer menu to switch game modes you can select a que list for non stop play. As soon as one game mode is over you switch directly to the next. This is also a new unique feature (at least I've never seen it before).
4.) Character badge system. Character classes are not new, but KZ2 is putting a unique twist on the system adopted from TF2. Mix and match badge. EXAMPLE: I can choose a primary badge as a medic and a secondary badge as a tactician (2 total). This mixes various abilities that are obtained as you rank up.
5.) Other features that have been done before like choosing your spawn point or spawning next to a teammate. As well as Ranks and medals. Cover system has never been done in full first person as well :).

yep, Shane used to get my blood boiling, but I love hearing his opinion on console stuff, he's great. Also, I love GFW, my fav by far, Elliot's a funny mofo, and it's a shame Darren and Sean Molloy have left for higher pastures. Thankfully they got rid of EGM radio and started up 1up FM, i'm really digging that show, put enough with Shadow of the Collosus already, which they continue to talk about in their backlog ...
Squad play has all been done before, and I haven't seen anything that I would consider ground breaking in KZ2, beyond looking great. Clan support in games was far ahead of it's time with Tribes/Tribes2, better then most new games that come out. Having an entire in game community stacked with features to the brim in Tribes 2 was outstanding, and something missed since. mismajor99
Almost no game is ground breaking. Please stop trying to find it in KZ2 :).
Squad play where you can group and disband on the fly during the match and are appointed a squad captain? Just curious.

I guess I am a Lemming, but I dont get me wrong I will buy a PS3 if the need arises.
Anyways about me quoting this. MAN this sounds very cool, neat system, I feel the twist they put into clans/ranking is cool. If it all works out I may just have to pick up that black box and this.
I dont care what 1up had to say or any other previewer. I can see for my very own eyes this is going to be a good game with the potential of being great. Some people may disagree but for some one who is into shooters like my self and i also specialise in RTS games and actionRPG's (everyone has atleast 2 genres they play) a good game is enough for me to buy it and once i play it i might decide to collect and add to my library if its just good will play for 1yr then trade it in no big deal.
When chking I guess KZ.net or com from within the game it brings up the ps3 web browser to chk it aswell. And if I'm correct in what I heard there is like 100 some statistics to chk out, so very thorough. Just some needless info I wished to spread lol.
From this point on I'm going into darkness so not to see any more footage of KZ2. I may read but not looking until its loaded onto my PS3 :). Can't wait.

I'm not looking for it, I'm observing people making claims to the fact that KZ2 is groundbreaking, it just isn't from what I've seen from my perspective.
It's graphically very very impressive, that's the angle I'm seeing.
Dynamic squad management started in the amazing BF games, where changing Squad captains on the fly was a BF2 feature back in 2005, furthermore, jumping in to an ingame unified friends list was better refined in BF2142 in 2006. Before that, Tribes had amazing Clan support ingame that I still haven't seen done better. I never played Planetside, so I'm not sure how that was done, maybe someone can chime in.
I'm only going from experience, and I'm not saying "this is the be all end all!!!" like a lunatic...
[QUOTE="Episode_Eve"][QUOTE="3picuri3"]THANKS 1up!!!
I've been saying this for days now, and all the cows deny it.
I don't understand how with a team of their size they decided to just rip off the last best shooter (team fortress) and then cherry pick neat things from other games (battlefield).
That stuff will fly if it's in combination with OTHER unique interesting new additions of the genre. In that respect I see none.
Not to mention the scaleback of destructive environments, removal of dynamic interactive HDR lighting that reacted to consussive blasts, bullets, etc.
It sure looks polished, but a polished con / copy is still a polished con / copy imo. I'll check out the demo, but if it's like 1up says I think I'll stick with my battlefield and team fortress tyvm.
3picuri3
Notice how they are only talking about the single player. There is more to the game. Also,do yuo want to ignore IGN's article praising KZ2?
They didn't just rip off TF2. They adopted a system that is popular, works well, and made changes to it. This gives KZ2 it's own unique style.
What about the unique Clan System? You HAVe to give GG credit for that. It's very original.
i know that fanboys can write articles too, and the ign article was weak. it seemed like it was written by someone who loved it before they played it.. 1up is far more eloquent and actually gives a solid argument as to why it's more a 'been there done that' shooter.

ok but whats so new about any other shooter? geow2 certainly isnt going after anything new....if you think the coop horde is new then you havent played any ut modes that have wave after wave of enemy come at you, and notice how you said nothing about how clans battle, just the fact that there is a clan system im place
if this were anything remotely like school then you would have stayed back many many grades at this point
