There has been alot of speculation that Sony is no longer producing the Wi-Fi-less 20 Gb model of the PS3, especially with the Sony store "not getting anymore in stock".  My theory (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) is that Sony is discontinuing it because it is selling better than the 60 Gb model.  The reason I feel my theory is valid is that I have not seen a single 20 Gb model since they released the PS3.  And I've seen plenty of 60 Gb models.

Plus if it is selling better that means Sony is losing more money because they though everyone would by the 60 Gb $600 PS3!

I know the Sony fanboys are going to chase me with torches and pitchforks.  Then eat me alive but I just want to know, in their best educated guess, what Sony is doing by not continuing the $500 PS3.  I am in no way a hater on Sony or a fanboy, I just want to know what everyone thinks.

Thank you, that is all.

I'm going to EB Games tomorrow, the guy behind the desk is a real nice guy, he's a huge gamer too. I'll ask if he's been getting any in, even though I think they have been discontinued.

Other way around people are buying the 60gb and not 20gb.

I disagree.

I think interest for the 20GB model is low and that's why Sony discontinued it.

No, the 60GB models outsell the 20GB. I myself have a 20GB model..

They lose more money on the 20GB model than the 60GB model...no conspiracy here, they are just trying to minimize losses.

Thats what I mean.  The 20 GB model is selling more so by taking the choice away from the consumer, the consumer has to buy the 60 GB model.  Minimizing their losses.

I probably would have bought a PS3 instead of a 360 if I could find a 20GB model. But I've asked every store I could find if they have or ever had 20GB PS3's and the answer is no. Stores just aren't getting any more 20GB PS3's because Sony doesn't want to sell them. The reason they don't want to sell them is obvious, they loose more money than they do selling the 60. I think that was a very dangerous decision Sony made because now the PS3 is considered an over-priced luxury item with a huge price gap between it's stronger competition. I have no idea why Sony would put themselves into such a difficult position.

That and they could be doing it to try and lower the price sooner.

I asked for your opinion on the topic, not a two word remark.

Sony didn't manufacture very many 20GB PS3's so of course there are going to be a lot more people buying the 60GB model, accounting for the 80% difference or whatever.  Simply, the 20GB model was great on it's own, I kick myself for not acting in time and buying one.  I don't even want the 60GB version.
