20 Years of Xbox

@dabear: PS2 had the better library of games, like it's not even close here. Its also the highest selling console of all time. PS2 win.

PS3 was more powerful, had a better library of games (much closer this time though), free online play and outsold the 360. PS3 win.

The PS2 had a few years head start. And, when they went head to head, the XBox's library was just fine.

I still remember reading about "Halo" in GamePro they did a big article said you need to get this I got the system it was pretty cool but I never got Halo 2 and was a big PC guy. That controller was huge and i had to get my xbox thompson drive repaired took over a month if i remember right.

For once, I totally agree with Benjamin. Xbox 360 was my favorite console what MS had to offer but totally drop the ball on Xbox One.

I am glad they dropped the ball to be honest. If the 360 arrogance was left unchecked, gaming would have been $#@*ed. Because of that massive misstep we have Xbox PlayAnywhere, GamePass and a strong focus on democratizing gaming. Needless to say, I hated the 360 era.

A worthy competitor to whom? Microsoft isn't competing with Sony. They have their eyes on the other trillion dollar companies entering the gaming sphere. Sony isn't a threat.

It is more like Sony isn't in the scope of MS long-term intentions.

They beat the PS3 everywhere except Japan - US/EU developers ignored the PS3 that gen, sparking the phrases "PC/360 title" and "console exclusive".

That was at the start of last gen. By the middle and end Sony had Gaben on their stage praising PS3 and most multiplats were running better on PS3.

Sony handed Microsoft a gift and they dropped it by shifting all of their focus to Kinect. They still haven't recovered from it.

The OG Xbox was a great console. Didn't care much for its successors though.

@dabear: Only difference is the PS3 beat the 360, even after it's horrible launch and the 360 having a full year of sales before the ps3 released. I didn't need to be on this message board back then to know this basic info. 🤣

EDIT: Anyway, happy 20th to XBOX. I admit, I was one of those haters, but since owning a 360 (late in it's lifecycle), I've been a fan and slowly, grown to prefer them over PlayStation (to which only the PS3 was the last PS with the most interesting library, PS4 and PS5 killed that for me, sadly).

Can we just agree that both Sony and Microsoft have good games, lol.

Umm... it most certainly did not. It may have ended up with a higher total globally, but that is because it sold 12:1 in Japan. In the rest of the world, it got trounced.

Congrats to XBox. I can't say I've ever loved one of mine - but I have had a good amount of good times on their games and services over the years, with the peak definitely being my OG Xbox. I also firmly believe Xbox keeps Sony on their toes and the industry would be much worse without them

And, it doesn't matter if you laugh, I am right. The 360 sold more than the PS3 in everywhere except Japan, and pushed record attachment rates. So, it was the more successful platform.

Honestly, I'm never going to forgive xbox/halo for getting rid of health bars and replacing them with basically a health regen "shield" like you see in CoD and other trans FPS games. like, "oh, i havent been shot in 30 seconds, so obviously all of my wounds are healed!"

The OG and 360 were the best respective consoles of their gens. The One sucked ass though, and I'm still struggling to see what the Series X offers. MS has done good things with backwards compatibility and gamepass, but it's apparent that they still need to be kept on a leash, because they might do a 100% price hike, or who knows what else, out of nowhere.

Still a peak launch title.

Ninja Gaiden was what got me to get the xbox. I was a teenager playing at my buddies house , (i hadnt played xbox but had a ps2 and gamecube) my god was NG clean, just blew everything else on PS2 and Gamecube out of the water at the time... before that game i like Shinobi on PS2... after playing NG... Shinobi was dog shit to me lol

OG xbox was pretty badass, i had all 3 consoles and at the end of the day that xbox was a tank, had a good amount of games and and 3rd party game played better on it. like starwars battlefront... im not going to play that on ps2. PS2 had the bigger catalouge but came out first. OG xbox changed the game with power and online.

Splinter Cell chaos theory and Crimson skys was amazing playing for the first time.

Go look at the sales numbers per territory, buddy. None of them have the 12:1 margin like Japan does for either console. Both the PS3 and 360 were at least competitive with each other in every market except Japan. What did happen was that the PS3 lost by decent figures in the rest of the world, which is why so many third party games were PC360.

PC360 games were a big topic of conversation back then.
