I made this thread more for my curiosity than anything. I'm curious to know how many people actually agree with those two points listed above. I personally think it's all a crock of ****. I have a $800 PC(Without Monitor, OS, Keyboard&Mouse) and I can run Crysis on High at 1240x1024(HD Resolutions) at around 30-40 FPS. I don't plan on upgrading until the next year or until a new game comes out that pushes my rig to the limits.

If I chose to upgrade my GPU every console cycle it would still be cheaper then buying another console whilst having 10x more power. Usuually the initial price is a lot more from MY experience but the upgrades cost far less and I only upgraded my last rig once and that was the GPU which made the 360 and PS3 obsolete. :P

So what say you, are those two points in the title valid?

I play every game on max now and Ill continue to be able to play games on max for a while to come. I don't plan to do an overhaul on my PC for atleast 3-4 years like I did my last PC. I will gradually have to play on lesser settings, but It wont stop the games from being able to run.

I have a ready built which I upgraded to have an 8800gt. Runs Crysis on high perfectly well by my standards, along with the 2 gigs of ram it cam with, and it even has vista holding it back.

I have a 8800GT and 2 gigs of ram, I plan to upgrade my CPU in the next 6 month or so then that's it, I won't upgrade for another 2-3 years.

I just don't understand why they think we need to upgrade every 6 month to play PC games, if in 2 years a new game comes out that I can't max out and I didn't upgrade, the game will still look better than any other PS3/360 game at the time...

I upgraded two years ago with 8800 GTX, so I'm able to play Crysis on highest details...

It's actually the only game that gives me some framerate issues while playing, but it obviously has every reason to do it...

I'm not planning buying a new GPU till Crysis 2 comes.

Where did you get $2000? It is more like $5000 if you want to actually play it on high

I always hear hermits say bu bu bu i built my pc for less than $1000 and i play it on high. The truth is they are blinde fanboys who probably cant even run it on medium at 30fps

What I want to know is how they claim to run crysis on high yet never give fps or any info. I got a 9600 with 3 gigs of ram and sure, I can run it on high too, but the fps isn't so great.

I dont know if you are joking or not, but I recently upgraded my PC for around £300 ($600 if you like, altho it would be cheaper in the us), and I was surprised to find that I could run Crysis demo at 1440 x 900 on everything set to high and no AA. I was genuinely surprised when I was getting 30-40 fps most of the time, with it hitting 25-30 on very rear occasions when there was big explosions combined with lots of enemies.

To hear everyone talking, I thought I would be getting 25-30 Fps on medium, but now I think I might get this game after all.

Now before anyone brings up price I should mention that my cost included CPU, MB, 2GB Mem and an 8800GT OC (almost a completely new system).

It depends mostly on the Graphics card, resolution of the monitor, CPU, RAM, and game settings. You can't expect people to think about all of this before they tell you how great their computer is.

8800gts 512, q6600 2.4 ghz, 4GB RAM (64 bit OS), 1680x1050, all settings High, no AA, 30 FPS during the last battle using Fraps. I might have been using DX9, but DX10 didn't seem to change the FPS at all.

Got my computer for 1000$, not including the monitor. 5000$ to play Crysis is a joke. Aside from the graphics, game isn't even that much fun. Fun, but not worth 5k.

I'm running on a Geforce go 7900 GS, and the only game that ever gave me any real difficulties was Crysis, and a mild GPU OC made that playable. I get 50-60 FPS in UT3 on medium details, and I can max out most games, like CnC3 and The Witcher.

The laptop I'm on cost $1500, but it's lasted me 1.5 years so far and probably will last me at least another year. If I wanted to buy the same machine with a better GPU now, I could probably get it for $900 or less.

I'm in a bit of a pickle since I don't have the money to upgrade from my current rig. It would mean replacing, for the most part, all of my old components. It truly sucks. :(

Plenty of threads on this board proving you wrong.

I posted an entire rig to prove him wrong..

I will go find it.

PS_John

Here is a rig that can run Crysis on High settings at 40+FPS and Very High at 30 FPS

XFX GeForce 8800GT 512MB - $169.99

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz - $159.99

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB DDR2 800 - $48.00

Rosewill 500W Power Supply - $49.99

ASUS LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - 94.99

Rosewill Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Case - $26.99

Western Digital Caviar 160GB 7200 RPM - $44.99

ASUS Black 18X DVD-ROM - $17.99

Microsoft Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Premium OEM - $94.99

Total Price - $707.92

So I am $7.92 over budget... I guess I go without lunch for one day.

The E6550 isn't ideal but you can always overclock it the .33 to match it up with the E6750 which is what I would aim for. Other than clock speed, the two are basically identical. Can be overclocked even higher on stock cooling. 3.2 is definitely possible with ease.

Oh and here is proof that what I have can run at High settings/Very High settings.

36 FPS average at 1280x1024

On Very High that average is 31 FPS at 1280x1024

The rig posted above would get slightly worse FPS. 28 FPS average on Very High and 33 FPS Average on High.

High and Max are 2 different settings. But I agree, my friend paid $900 for his and can put it on high, but its choppy in parts. Medium runs really smooth. I paid 1250 for mine and can run it on high without AA @1440x900 as I only have a 19" with no hiccups.

Do you have proof that you need a $5000 dollar PC to play on high. Dont use Alienware, Dell, or Voodoo PC as a reason since they are all overpriced. My PC is about $1100 and Im using a custom config that lets my go to very high can have a stable framerate at 1440x900

If you're on Vista (and if you're not, you're playing in DX9 already), you don't need to download DX9. Just open your Games Explorer, right-click on Crysis, and pick "PlayDX9".

horrowhip- when you order pieces from the sites you linked do they have a warranty?

I've been thinking of building a PC sooner or later and your post is pretty convincing, would this PC be able to max out most games?

This would be the first time I build a PC so I still have to do a little bit more homework. Would you mind PMing me that list with all those links? Unless there's a way I can copy/paste that .

You usually do. Retail CPUs normally come with a three-year warranty. Most hard drives have five-year warranties. Some graphics cards even come with lifetime warranties. Most RAM is lifetime warranty.

Then explain the proof on the previous page. And before you say, "I'm computer illiterate--I can't build my own!", then add $50 to get the whole mess assembled at your local computer shop.

For Crysis, my friend. Show me a console that can do Crysis full-on @30fps. When a computer can do Crysis at 30fps, it'll do most any other game flat-out. I know I have no trouble whatsoever playing BioShock at 12x10 in DX10 mode...at resolutions and frame rates far beyond what the 360 is capable of achieving.

I will check on the warranty thing. Anyway, I will PM you a build. Just tell me your price range and I will get to work on build for you.

If around $700 is your range, the only thing I would really say is drop the extra cash to get the E6750 over the E6550 so that you don't have to worry about overclocking anything. I made sure everything I posted had pretty good reviews and are by good manufacturers.

If around $700 is your range, the only thing I would really say is drop the extra cash to get the E6750 over the E6550 so that you don't have to worry about overclocking anything. I made sure everything I posted had pretty good reviews and are by good manufacturers.

Well I can boost my budget up to $900 if it makes a worthy difference. I'm trying to think ahead to start saving up, I most likely wont build it until December though which is by when I expect to pay it in full and it'll be closer to the games I'm currently looking forward to.

Thanks in advance for the help.

horrowhip- when you order pieces from the sites you linked do they have a warranty?

I've been thinking of building a PC sooner or later and your post is pretty convincing, would this PC be able to max out most games?

This would be the first time I build a PC so I still have to do a little bit more homework. Would you mind PMing me that list with all those links? Unless there's a way I can copy/paste that .

[QUOTE="HuusAsking"][QUOTE="Vaan7"]Sorry don't mean to interrupt but why are you guys raving over 30fps average? That is what a console can do and costs a lot less...horrowhip

If you can run Crysis at 30 FPS, every single other game out right now is guarranteed to be running at 60 FPS or more at 1280x1024 resolution.

Precisely my point--"it'll do most any other game flat-out."

Where did you get $2000? It is more like $5000 if you want to actually play it on high

I always hear hermits say bu bu bu i built my pc for less than $1000 and i play it on high. The truth is they are blinde fanboys who probably cant even run it on medium at 30fps

AvIdGaMeR444

Exactly. I get so tired of reading how hermits have somehow miraculously built their own PC for $700 that can run Crysis on max settings. Like I'm ever going to believe that...

This is why I hate people and the internet especially. Ignorance...

thats because they can edit the files to turn on some very high settings. Or downlead a graphics config file off the internet. My PC is using XP and I play on very high with a stable FPS the rarly drops

I find it funny because HL2 get 110 FPS on my rig.

Smooth as butter...

1400$ canadian including mouse, keyboard, speakers, and the whole rest of the computer gets me very high 12*10 everything with 20+ fps which is perfectly fine with me.

I haven't upgraded yet an I probably won't need to for a while as I bought my PC in Feb.

I got this PC as a gift back in 2003. In 2006 I upgraded it to a gig of ram and a 6600gt. Still playing on it 2 years later.

no you could do it for 1000, even less if you were willing to go for less than the best.
