Ummm no. lol @ 5k. People keep thinking if u shell out a bunch of doe on a pc its uber. Thats is not the case. Stop listening to the dudes at Best Buy trying to sell u a rig that u can build for much much cheaper with better specs. U are paying for the construction not the parts. Check out newegg.com, zipzoomfly.com, mwave.com, etc and u compare the parts that come in a rig sold by Dell or BestBuy to thiose site and u tell me if they arent parts combined arent like $1000 less then what the store is offering for a full rig with those specs.

Well I wouldnt go that far @ alt config files. U can overclock yur parts to make them run like their big brother counterparts. And max settings on Crysis is Ultra High settings which no rig outside of nasa to date can run with a 60 or better fps. Max depends on yur monitor and graphics card. Most graphics cards can run over 2000 x 1200 res granted u have a monitor that can support that res which would be a 24in or better monitor.

And u really dont have to upgrade every 6mnths for pc parts unless u one of those people who needs to have the latest parts or are a pc nut. When u hear dudes talk about oh im going to get this new vid card or new chip etc they more then likely have been doing this for a while and know what their budget is or have hook ups to get these parts that allows them to do this or have been reading about the release of these parts and have been saving up for them. U also trade parts with other pc gamers. Saves alot of doe.

An average pc gamer can sit on their rig for a few years without an upgrade and even then its user preferences.

Where did you get $2000? It is more like $5000 if you want to actually play it on high

I always hear hermits say bu bu bu i built my pc for less than $1000 and i play it on high. The truth is they are blinde fanboys who probably cant even run it on medium at 30fps

PS_John

Now you just went too easy on hermits.

The REAL truth is that you need to sell your car, your house and even your dog in order to play Crysis!

Damn you hermits, you lying elitist nerds!!!11

I made this thread more for my curiosity than anything. I'm curious to know how many people actually agree with those two points listed above. I personally think it's all a crock of ****. I have a $800 PC(Without Monitor, OS, Keyboard&Mouse) and I can run Crysis on High at 1240x1024(HD Resolutions) at around 30-40 FPS. I don't plan on upgrading until the next year or until a new game comes out that pushes my rig to the limits.

If I chose to upgrade my GPU every console cycle it would still be cheaper then buying another console whilst having 10x more power. Usuually the initial price is a lot more from MY experience but the upgrades cost far less and I only upgraded my last rig once and that was the GPU which made the 360 and PS3 obsolete. :P

So what say you, are those two points in the title valid?

VoodooGamer

Yes PCs cost a fortune and Windows is impossible to use! (Do you really want the casual console players switching to PC?)

stop giving the false impression that PC gaming is cheap TC. The truth is that PC gaming is far more expensive just like textures are better on the 360 than PS3.

I would rather spend $5K on PC to run Crysis as good as possible than to spend $20K on HDTV for console game to play as good as possible ;)

You can get an 1100 dollar PC, built by someone else, and play Crysis on High with 30 FPS. You don't have to build it yourself, so imagine how much cheaper it would be otherwise. You clearly know nothing about PC gaming.

And you must stop giving the false impression that PC gaming is prohibitively expensive. The true truth is that PC gaming, though more expensive than console gaming, isn't as expensive as most people would lead you to believe. Plus you get a bigger return on investment (IOW, you get what you pay for).

Exactly. I get so tired of reading how hermits have somehow miraculously built their own PC for $700 that can run Crysis on max settings. Like I'm ever going to believe that...

Then explain the proof on the previous page. And before you say, "I'm computer illiterate--I can't build my own!", then add $50 to get the whole mess assembled at your local computer shop.

I personally would like to see him do anything on that computer without a mouse, or keyboard, or networking card. Also, where is the soundcard, or was he suggesting that the internal sound of the motherboard is good enough? If you're going to post a low price point for a gaming PC, at least make sure that it is capable of playing games...

In all honesty, I am constructing a rig (slowly, due to the slow rate that I am acquiring the parts) that could run Crysis on V. High settings for under $600...Where'd you get two grand from?

LOOL cheaper in the long run??? No way.

If a PS2 owner bought his console 7 years ago, he would be getting a steady flow of games all the way until today where games....good games....are still coming out for it. This would not be the case with PC's. You would have to upgrade 3 years later for a mainstream card or 5-6 years for a top of the line card.

Onboard Sound Cards are good now, you do know that right? They support 5.1 surround sound and have mixers and everything... Infact, they provide better audio than the 360 does.

Network card... WHAT? You are kidding right? Ethernet ports are standard now. You don't need a network card unless you are trying to go wireless, at which point... why? This is a home PC, not a laptop. Hardwired internet is much better than wireless. Also, you can always transfer it over from your current PC if you can't hardwire. And M+KB.... WHO THE **** doesn't have a M+KB?

The PC I Provided has EVERYTHING needed. besides, buying a M+KB is like $10...

No wrong again. I can get a 360 for £159.99. PS3 249.99. Not bad considering a 8800 GT costs around 159-170.

LMAO! I bought a logitech z2300 to go with my new PC. The same crappy hyumming crap and low quality crap from the motherboard sound gave no justice to logitech z 2300.

oh yeah TC. i just spens $3000 on new stuff for my PC and recieved it today. there was 4 hours of installing new hardware before i could boot up my PC this morning. but alas, its already out of date so once i booted up, i had to order another $1500 worth of stuff...including a new chrome desk because my current one isnt chrome 6.0 compliant. PCs do need chrome desks of course.

i have to hold down 6 jobs to affoard PC gaming.

Lmao, so your comparing launch PS2 to 3 year later 360 prices?

I bought my 360 a year after release, when the price was £280 Pro Console, + £25 LIVE , + £15 Charger , +40 WIFI adaptor ( Non official, since official was £60 ).

Soundcard

Sound cards are better yes, but the difference is slowly going away.

Graphics cards and consoles.

Fine, 5-7 years  everyone else will be on the Xbox720 by then, doesnt make any difference, its still as outdated as that 8800 GT would be by that time.

... then again why am I responding to an obvious troll, we all know how that saying goes.

My system is cheap and runs crysis at around 30fps average.

Partlist

E6300 ($150 on newegg, you can get better processors now for cheaper)

gigabyte p965 s3 ($64 on newegg, you can get the P35 chipset one for $10 more)

4gb ddr2 800mhz ($94 total on newegg.)

HD 2900 pro (doesnt exist on newegg, going for $100 or so on Ebay, you can get a card thats faster for $139, the 9600gt)

Windows Vista 64bit(SP1)

Not that much less. And it can do it at 720p( 1280×720 ) at best case scenario( we all now that many games are at 640p or whatever ). And if crysis was ever ported to console probably it would have to be to 640x480(heck i even think less) for a console to be able to manage it with 30fps average at high settings. And we all now framerate and texture problems in gta4 or mass effect or any other good looking game in consoles

Um, the Xbox 360 was out-of-date when it came out because of the 7800GTX. ;)

Who is this 16% that voted yes? Seriously, I was thinking it would be A LOT smaller than that.

No you are wrong. My 7 year old PC sound card (motherboard) was only slightly inferior in quality to my new PC. You want good sound, you need a good Sound card. Stop being stupid.

Don't need a BluRay, as most of the stuff I want isn't available on BluRay. And until a PS3 can do Crysis 720p @ 30fps (or even BioShock 1080p@30fps--as both can be done now with my current PC...and it wasn't that expensive), there is nothing I need to prove.

You still haven't beaten PS3's value for money. Until you can beat me, I win.

maybe if you are buying a crappy Motherboard...

On-board sound cards are perfectly fine now.

Just because you are a PC incompetent doesn't mean that nobody else knows what to buy.

stop giving the false impression that PC gaming is cheap TC. The truth is that PC gaming is far more expensive just like textures are better on the 360 than PS3.

Clear as the sky.

And you must stop giving the false impression that PC gaming is prohibitively expensive. The true truth is that PC gaming, though more expensive than console gaming, isn't as expensive as most people would lead you to believe. Plus you get a bigger return on investment (IOW, you get what you pay for).

I thought it was a common know fact allready. A PC is expensive to purchase, but cheaper in the long run.

Lol wtf are you talking about???

Im not talking about Ps2 games..

hell my craptastic 4year old Pentinum4 PC can run ps2 games

PC IS cheaper in the long run It's FACT. And that comming from a console gamer.

I upgrade my graphics card whenever I can. I'm good on CPU & memory for a while though.

The thing that really sucks about PC gaming is that you usually have to replace another thing if you want to upgrade any other part of your PC. For example, I plan on getting a new mobo with the new graphics card. So I can take advantage of PCI-E 2.0 and such.

Yeah PCs are more powerful, but I realised something today, most devs are going to consoles. That means the majority of games are going to start being"exclusive" to consoles. I will always have a gaming PC though in the case that a good game like Crysis comes on it.

Sorry if I sound like a fanboy, but it's my opinion and I just realised this when I saw this thread.
