The Wii will never have a "year".
ball_of_air
exactly
well unless you count 2007 as a "year" in which case they've already won one as far as the future goes no one can accuratly predict it but im going out on a limb and throwing it towards Nintendo and the wildly popular products they make
Who cares about 2008? This is 2007. The best part of the year are the sleepers. The ones that nobody sees coming until they hit. We won't know till it's over.
As far as 2007 goes, I think the Wii has won, and I think that's evident in both the software and hardware sales. People tell you what they want with their wallets, not with their posts on gaming forums.
I stll think the Wii is going to lose appeal and die out. I know alot of people bought it but lets face it, it was because it was a new idea and people wanted to try it out. If it goes on to win the entire system war, then I will except that I was wrong but until then I think that the PS3 or maybe the 360 will win.
Ehh, in terms of sales probably, but in terms of quality, I doubt it. I only see a few games that I'll be getting for my Wii in 08. Sure Wii-fit and other things aimed at casuals will dominate the market, but that isn't going to cut it for hardcore gamers.
aerman176
maybe not but i think Mario Kart, Brawl, and for those who never played it Okami will most assuredly cut it for hardcore gamers
yeah its going to die out just like ds didI stll think the Wii is going to lose appeal and die out. the_new_neo
the wii will do fine in 2008. its still too early to say who wins the war though. everything will become more clear in 2009!!!!!
newkid69
you mean when the ps3 finally gets other game people are looking foward too on it
While im a super nintendo fan i just dont see them "dominating" 08. Im sure that they will do fine and all but I cant really think of more than a few games that (atleast right now) will be amazing. No Zelda, no metroid, no mario (well main mario i mean). So we have mario kart and SSBB and thats about all I can think of for mega hits in 08. While i want endless ocean i doubt it will sell too many copies. I gues Fire emblem too but im not sure when thats coming. What all games are going to make the wii own this year? I think it might be a weak year all things consideredSuperstrokey
No More Heroes
Disaster Day of Crisis
Sadness
Umbrella Chronicles
Tomb Raider: Anniversary
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
Medal of Honor Heroes 2
Godzilla Unleashed
NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams
Harvey Birdman (you know you love courtroom dramas)
Rygar
Bully: Scholarship Edition
P.S. Fire Emblem is out... Release date of Nov. 5
With the exception of Sadness and Disaster: Day of Crisis all of these games will be released before Mario Kart Wii (dated for march)
lol, i just realized i had a miss-type. i put 08 instead of 07. lol. but still, either way, i dought anyone here could name a remarkable 360 title other than halo wars or GOW2, that ISNT on the ps3 (rockband, kane and linch, gh3, cod4, battlefield, gta, etc.). so wii has a beter chance at winning 08 since its only competitor will be ps3, at least, i mean, a "threat".Blue_Panda
little late but it kinda changes the whole thread
i think its time for all of us to admit the wii won it. personally, as a 360 owner (and wii) i think its kinda funny. i just hope sony can catch up, so we can have some intense battling between PS3 and 360.Blue_Panda
I just don't see a real fight between the Wii and the other two systems. Most of the games and even the game play really don't target the same demographics. It's not like buying a Wii is a true replacement for PS3 or a 360.
Don't get me wrong, the Wii looks like a fun system, but to me a Wii is almost like a different class of "toy" that happens to have a couple of multiplats that the more powerful systems have (and do better with).
Apples and oranges.

true but we have always compared Nintendo with any other system thats out so its a little hard to stop now

We'l if Nintendo fans can put aside their silly notion that 3rd parties are always inferior, then I see a few games with potential: FFCC:CB (which is supposed to be more like a main series FF than it's predecessor, both in look and game mechanics), Monster Hunter 3 (at least in Japan), King Story.
It willbe dead by then
sam890
Extremely bold thing to say, considering the way it's selling right now.

Yeah, but the DS had a constant flow of games.
I dont think the Wii and DS are even comparable at this point.
I like the Wii and grew up a nintendo fanbut I look at it's library and everything and when you think about it Nintendo slapped it's fanbase across the face by making the Wii with crap hardware.
Now, dont get me wrong... I'm not trying to say they shouldnt have the Wii-mote, but I dont understand why they couldnt have graphics that at least match the 360 AND have the Wii mote, that way the Wii wouldnt have to get crappy ps2 ports all the time instead of REAL next gen multiplats.
This is why the only really good games on the Wii will ever be either Wii exclusive/time exclusive, first party, and/or a last gen port.
Think of it this way, just because Nintendo decided to skimp you on graphics when they could have went all out, you'll never know what it's like to play a GOOD multiplat like Orange Box with the wiimote. Who wouldnt want to play HL2 on the wii?
Ever wondered why there's still no good FPS games on the Wii? It's because most good FPS games are multiplat.
So in other words, dont expect good FPS games on the wii unless Nintendo decides to pay a company a lot of money to make a GOOD fps just for the Wii or makes one themself, which I dont see happening. :)

I understand that but this Gen Nintendo pretty much took themselves out of the fight. In the past the main knock some gamers had on them was that their games were too "kiddie". This gen, the still have the same rep with a lot of people but they also decided to let technology pass them by.
It's kind of like a second class major league team leaving the big leagues and focusing on being a really successful and profitable minor league team. Yeah, they make money but they don't really pull any ratings away from the big league teams.
I like the Wii, but I can't stand how Wii owners always put up Brawl. It is one game the Wii needs more that one game. And Nintendo makes a game every month(not many compared to 360 and PS3). Unlike the 360 and PS3 that have games not only first party games, but third party to. I have a Wii and I enjoy it, but rarely play it. And always find myself buying a game made by Nintendo, which I beat in a short time. So after I beat the game there is nothing else to do.
Now, dont get me wrong... I'm not trying to say they shouldnt have the Wii-mote, but I dont understand why they couldnt have graphics that at least match the 360 AND have the Wii mote, that way the Wii wouldnt have to get crappy ps2 ports all the time instead of REAL next gen multiplats.wagexslave
The issue is that of cost. At launch, a premium 360 cost somewhere around 500USD to produce, and was sold for 400USD. Nintendo however has always sold hardware at an immediate profit, and for less than then most competitors. Thus, 360 level hardware would never have fit into their business model.
Then what would you call this year? The Wii will never have a "year".
ball_of_air
The 360 was outsold by the PS3, and the Wii beat the crap out of them both.
According to GS it's beating the PS3.Sales or games?
Sales - it's in 1st.
Games - it's in dead last.

you understand of course the reason people buy games is because they consider them to be good right?

That's purely a matter of opinion.
That's true.
But when its library is dead last on GS, GR (I think it only has something like 8 games on GR that have a score of 8.0 and over.... that's not good no matter which way you slice it,) MetaCritic, 1up, IGN, etc. that'll give you a good idea where the majority of the public opinion lies (for people who have been playing games for a long while) regarding the quality of its library.
But, if people really enjoy games like Mario and Sonic at the Olympics and those types of games over the ibrary of the 360/PS3, more power to them. Thw Wii does have more of those types of games, and if that's your thing there's nothing wrong with that (personally, I don't care what other people play or how they choose to have fun.)
BTW, I'm not trying to insult the Wii or anything. I have Galaxy on Pre Order..... I't s just that I've been playing games for over 2 and a half decades, I own all three systems this time around, and in my opinion (and in the opinions of every major game review publication) the Wii library has a long, long way to go to catchup towhat the 360 has to offer.
Just because someone's system of choice isn't getting very good marks it doesn't make it not cheesy to say "Well, now reviews don't matter - they're only opinions. Sales only matter now," it's a copout. Game quality really is the only thing that matters, and at the end of the day sites like GR are the most valuable way to guage overall gamequality.
I think that it's being a bit unfair to not feel like the Wii is in direct competition with the 360 or the PS3. They're different products, but thats what competition is all about...
To say, "Oh, the Wii is really a different product that appeals to someone other than me. Let's not consider it a contender," is ridiculous when they are the console company that has been around the longest and is currently selling their VIDEO GAMING SYSTEM much more successfully than the competition. Do they share the market? Yes! Are the created for the same purpose? Yes!
It's like losing in the super bowl and saying, "well that team isn't in our division, so we really won."
As far as the lack of games, please do some research before you make that statement. There are plenty of games out and coming soon that are very much worth playing. And the PS2 port crap is lame! Guitar Hero III was released on the PS2! Last I checked there was a 360 version and a PS3 version.
Then you bash it for not having good FPS games. The genre as a whole is overdone. Changing nazi's to aliens or terrorists or the japanese or whatever isn't going to change that it's the same thing thats been coming out for 10 years! (Zombies are an exception to this rule...Zombies never die) You fail to mention Metroid 3 (yeah, yeah...flop...we know...I still sya the reviewer is on crack) or the upcoming Medal of Honor Heroes 2 with 32 player online (last time i checked Gears of War only had 8).
Also, the amount of developers that have come forward and made it public that they regret not backing the Wii sooner is evidence that it's a system worth considering just as much as the 360 or the PS3 (and apparently one that can't be overlooked within the industry). It also leads that these companies are now spending much more of their resources on making quality titles for the system. On top of the great Nintendo titles, we'll be seeing innovative games of a high caliber coming in more and more!
The only logical reason to downplay Nintendo's stunning success is that they're so far ahead in the next gen war that you can't even see the dust anymore. PS3 and 360 are left to duke it out for second place.
The Wii won 2007.
this ps3 lost this year due to the price, andthe lack of backwards compatibility in Europe. the 360 had to rely on halo 3 (pointless and overrated).
I've been playing games since the mid eighties and up until this and the last generation i have never owned 2 Nintendo consoles at once. the games are fun and enjoyable on Nintendo consoles, PS3 and Xbox 360 games are two similar and getting pointless.
So what that casual gamers are now getting into gaming because of Nintendo. the DS won the hand held wars because it was designed to appeal to everyone, the psp tried to out do it just by being a mini ps2, and have music on it.
Now gaming is no longer the stuff of nerds and geeks, everyone is starting to enjoy it so i say welcome to all new gamers.
LONG LIVE THE WII. the console for this generation.

When are we going to put this to rest? Just because the Wii is being made and sold at the same time as xbox360 and PS3 does not mean it is the same generation. If SEGA were to rebadge the Genesis, call it the Gee and sell it for $19; would it still count as a contender for this generation?
We only know basically what's coming out for the Wii in the first quarter of next year and it really comes down to just Brawl and Mario Kart (I think that's first quarter anyway). So it'll do decent in the beginning but we'll have to wait and see what else comes out because the 360 and PS3 both have pretty solid line ups for next year that we know of.Akuma88
im not sure when the first quarter ends but we also have Okami
also we know about Spore and No More Heros though NMH might be coming out this year idk
all in all though for 360and ps3 fans thie wii is looking like the little energizer bunny from hell

It looks like the Energizer bunny because an old PS2 game is being ported to it?
The Wii only has 8 games..... eight games..... (including Galaxy) on GR with a score of 8.0 and above (and one of them in the top three, RE4, is a port of a GC game.) After an entire year, that's not good - at all. The 360 on GR has two more AAA's (and two more under that on the brink with ratings of 89.8 and 89) than the Wii has AA's.
Do you realize the number of AAA's that have hit the 360 in the last 3 or 4 months? Those AAA's alone will outnumber the amount of AAA's the Wii will get for the entire '08 year.
It's selling well, there's no denying it.... but its library. That's a different story. If the Wii is the Energizer Bunny I think its batteries need to be changed.

I don't know what you're saying.
The amount of AAA's the 360 has got in the last 4 months will outnumber the amount of AAA's the Wii will receive for theentire '08 year.
The 360 has more AAA's on GR than the Wii's entire AA and AAA library combined.
And yeah, I loved Okami. I played it to death a long, long while ago.
EDIT: Are you saying the 360 only had two games higher than 8.0 in its entire first year?!?! lol
