2010: Year of the flop

So many games flopped this year, and there was such massive expectations for this whole year that it was a even bigger dissapointment. Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, Epic Mickey, Donkey Kong, Metroid Other M, Kirby and somewhat God of War 3. And Gran Turismo, big time!

So what do you say? Just an unfortanate coincidence or are games getting worse.

No, not somewhat God of War 3. Games did great but not outstanding great, no big deal to me. Just a guys opinion in the end.

The Game is called Metroid Other M, not Metroid Prime: Other M.

Cause if it was Metroid Prime it would have been a FPS.

btw Other M didn't flop on Gamespot because it hit AAE and hype was AAE, although Metacritic and Gamerankings I believe flop it. (and sales.)

Red Dead Redemption. This may come as a surprise but I didn't find the game to be immersive enough.

Don't forget the huge disappointments that were Final Fantasy XIII and XIV. These two games have made the internet lose hope in Japanese RPGs

FFXIII flopped.

GOW3 met the hype. Besides that yea alot floped but it doesint make those games bad or anythign like that.

It's called Dante's Inferno, so much hype for a game that flopped prematurely. I liked a fair bit until near the end when it became rather mediocre. I still don't understand how the developers managed to do that.

God of War didn't flop.

Heavy Rain didn't flop, nor did GoW3. But you're missing FFXIII which was as equal a flop as GT5 i'd say. navstar29

Heavy Rain flopped. GOW didn't, FF13 did indeed and Kirby as far as I can tell also didn't flop.

Basicly. These games are flops in GS SW rules.

Do you mean critically or financially? Because Heavy Rain has sold something like five times the amount it was expected to. GOW3 sold extremely well, too. Still too early to tell with GT5, Mickey and DKCR, which still aren't even released in a few markets. Yeah, games like Alan Wake and others flopped, but I don't think to an extent any larger than you'd get in other years.

Hmm I'm enjoying those flops far than a lot of the other games I've played. (except FFXIII)

I dont think I was let down by a single game this year. In fact, I'd say 2010 has been really really good, one of the better years in a while.

but I am a PC-exclusive gamer, so yeah :P

Most of the games mentioned here just did not meet overblown expectations. APB on the other hand was something different...

The only one that was disappointing to me was FFXIII, but I even liked a few things about it.

That´s true,but to be honest,one would expect it to score higher considering the quality of the franchise,and in that regard,Other M may not be a SW flop but it sure was disapointing.

That's true, Other M WAS disappointing on the whole. However, it didn't flop in the SW metagame is all I'm sayin.

In what way was God of War 3 a flop? It got AAA, what was the hype at to make AAA a flop?

Also, I didn't think Alan Wake was a flop either, but the rest I agree with although I wasn't actually dissapointed. I saw most of those scores coming.

I think its been a great year :| some of the best games this gen have been released this year and I am having a hard time keeping up with it. There have been some pretty epic and surprising flops but that keeps it interesting, good to see the consistent companies like Nintendo and Blizzard still delivering.
