You forgot the most promising one:
Yangire
Sorry but I beat you to it bro.
Also, is there a release date? I haven't seen anything at all.
It doesn't have a release date yet, but hopefully it's coming this year. There's also Grimoire (Forever...)
Inquisitor (Q2 2011)
Knights of the Chalice 2 (TBA 2011)
Grim Dawn (TBA 2011)

Oh yeah I actually forgot about that game, it has a demo?
I consider WRPGs to be my favorite genre and yet of the games you mentioned only Dead State, Risen 2 and The Witcher 2 interest me. Am I still a WRPG fan? :(
The most promising RPG that might be released this year is Age of Decadence. If it is as good as the game promises to be, it will probably be my GOTY. Here is a video of it.

You're not alone there, although I'd add Dungeon Siege 3 to that list since Obsidian tends to fill their RPGs with good ideas. The bigger name Bioware and Bethesda titles will probably be entertaining, but...they probably won't be doing a lot for the genre.

Bioware not doing anything for the genre? Dragon Age II - genres first frame story, completely smashes the Bioware mold as well Mass Effect 3 - we will fully feel the effect of choices made in the first two games now that we don't have to worry about contuity The Old Republic - injects story driven single player experience into an MMO, complete with conversation system Not only is 2011 the year of WRPGs, its the year of Bioware. Dungeon Siege III looks lacking and generic, and once again Obsidian is doing someone else's sequel. I find Obsidian highly overrated. Sure they do well written sequels, but they do not create new IPs and new worlds (other than the crappy Alpha Protocol) they just flesh out someone elses.[QUOTE="Planeforger"]Bioware not doing anything for the genre? By doing anything for the genre I think he meant evolving it.
How is Dark Soul and Witcher 2 is classified as WRPG, one is made in Japan and the other in Eastern Europe.
calvinx6
WRPG and JRPG is not based on where they were made but rather how they were made.
WRPG=Western take on the RPG genre
JRPG=Japanese take on the RPG genre

Then most JRPGs are WRPGs because they copy mechanics and ideas from early WRPGs.
Also this thread was called "Year of the RPG" but he only had Dark Souls up there for JRPGs. He was asked by a few users to change RPG to WRPG and he did without taking Dark Souls out.

As Yangire said JRPGs are heavily based of older WRPGs such as Ultima and Wizardry, they have gone somewhat to their own route after that. Both JRPGs and WRPGs can have choices and consequence and conversation options, as well as dark fantasy.
I am not saying Dark Souls is a WRPG. In fact, I might actually say the contrary. I am just rebutting to the fact that WRPGs and JRPGs are based off where they were made. Of course, since we have no universally agreed definition of them we are both correct, some say it is the Japanese style on RPGs, other say it is RPGs made in Japan.

WRPG and JRPG ARE based on where they were made, and it does appear as if you were referring to dark souls as a WRPG based on design.
