wow. weather you are buying the ps3 for movies or for games or for both, either way sony wins console/movie market. i know its not going to be 29 million ps3 bluray is going to be sold, but the majority will buy the ps3 because of its multimedia capabilities. With the ps3 you get a top of the line bluray player that is future proof due to its capability to upgrade thru firmware and also, the ps3 offers the ultimate gaming experience that a console can offer. Games such as MGS, FF13, RE5, GTA5, etc around the corner will make sure that the ps3 will always be in use by their users without the wear and tear (RROD) of their competition. If 29 million will be sold by the end of 08, then 09 it will double, dare i as triple the sales of bluray, spefically the PS3 (games/movies) as casual consumer will begin to realize that this systems is not for luxury but a necessity for everyday living, just like tv, computers, cars, etc.

IF true, its a hollow victory. Console sales, thanks to this, will not be a viable source to say one of the three big brands won this generation because one of the threes numbers will be greatly inflated due to blu-ray sales only. Sure, alot of people will buy a PS3 because its the best option to get a blu-ray player. And alot, I mean ALOT of those people wont buy even the first game. Listen very carefully, and you can try to come up with some kind of rebuttal but its going to fall flat. If games are still not being bought on the PS3 at the rate they are on the 360 and the Wii then it still wont be feeding the developers pockets, therefore the lucrative consoles for them to develop for will STILL BE the 360 and the Wii. Lets get crazy for a minute, and say over the next two years the PS3 console sales come up to around... 40 to 50 million. All of a sudden, fanboys for the PS3 will run around saying they have crushed the 360 and the Wii. But how silly will they look when the software sales still have 360 and Wii titles demolishing PS3 titles??? If you dont think that makes a difference, you should go back to basic math and pay better attention.
ok my last system was the sega saturn (ps2 brother left it to me and only used it for movies), so i have not been a gamer since then, but when i heard the ps3 not only a gaming system, but also an awesome bluray player, i thought it was pretty cool because i wanted a bluray. i waited until a price drop and bought the 40gig (20% kmart discount) last year. i was very happy with my bluray, it played well with my 120HZ HDTV, but i also realize that its not only a player but a game console, so i started doing research and going to site such as this looking for good games. i ended up buying cod4, warhawk, devil may cry, and rockband. i was very pleased that one system can do all these. so what i am saying is that you might by the ps3 for one thing (movies)but you might end up using it for something other than what you intended such as for games, communication, internet, etc. if that can happen to me, i am sure there are millions of ppl will end up like that. so its a win win situation
I didnt say that no one would buy a PS3 for blu-ray and not pick up games. It will happen. But it seems people are under this idea that there will be a mass exodus of games being bought to match the number of PS3s sold for blu-ray consoles and it just wont happen that way. Which is my point, that the numbers of consoles sold wont reflect in the number games sold, at least nowhere near to that degree.
