Edit: Honestly, I don't even know why people are buying BR players. I have a Samsung 1080p upconverter which you can buy for $80 at Circuit City (probably cheaper elsewhere) and the picture looks beautiful. I haven't looked at it side-by-side with HD programs from my Xbox 360, but the difference in picture quality is negligible as far as I can tell.

First off, this is the last I will respond to you as you don't seem to care about reading almost anything else I write before responding and I hate having to repeat myself.

Now, the point is that the PS3 used to be the cheapest. The fact that that has now changed indicates that the price of stand-alone players is dropping faster than the price of the PS3. As such, if the trend continues (which it probably will), then the difference in price will only continue to grow.

i don't care what you believe tbh. i bought one at launch, 60gig. I sold it after Lair flopped, it was a game I was highly anticipating and it really let me down. I noticed there was nothing on the horizon I wanted to buy for it - it was sitting on the shelf collecting dust - and there were plenty of Wii / 360 games I wanted.

seeing I sold it before the price drop I got pretty good trade-in value for it, 450$ - in cash. I used the cash as a game fund for all the 360 / Wii games I bought in 2007 / early 2008 ;)

I bought the PS3 buying in to the hype - I was a hardcore sony fan until this gen. I thought Lair / Heavenly Sword would be great, and who the hell knew LBP and other PS3 titles would be delayed over and over again. Hell LBP isn't even out until fall 08 and they showed promo for it at launch... home was supposed to be out ages ago.

so yeah - again I'll reiterate. I don't care if you think I owned one.. because I know I lost my faith in Sony this gen and that's all the matters to me. Bullshot after bullshot, delay after delay. They spoon fed us hype about the Cell and BR, and neither have proved to be beneficial to gaming yet. with all the hype I was expecting the PS3 to blow me away - and when you own a 360 and a PS3 and can compare games you quickly realize there is little that distinguishes the two.

I said I might buy one again when all the games are out and it's cheap as dirt, but in the meantime I'd rather invest in the systems I know have games coming soon that I want to play.

Maybe sales of BR stand-alone players will increase a lot, but I highly doubt that people were waiting to buy a PS3 until they found out if BR would win. I'd be willing to bet that if you cared about the PS3 as a gaming platform and haven't bought one yet, it is because you are waiting on some games, not the result of the format war. I know that is the case with me. For those people who just want to play HD movies, as a few of us have pointed out, there are cheaper players out there than the PS3 that they can buy now that the HD war is settled.

Also when your comparing sales then the system sales matter the most. Anyone can tell that the PS2 won by selling 120 million units compared to the XBOX which sold 25-30 million. It wouldn't make a difference how many games XBOX sold. PS2 still won. nVidiaGaMer

Exactly, there are already cheaper players, and now that BR is mainstream the player prices will drop drastically, unlike PS3 price

Also PS3 used as a BR player is totally incopatible IMO

If you buy a PS3 as a gaming console, you will never use it for movies, because your BR drive will die faster

nope no AAAE yet for the 360 yet this year, yup i brought mine for games too i got a hell of a lot of them and blu ray films, i enjoy them all i get the most out of my ps3 :D, i dont recall having to wait for anything with the ps3 thou :| dunno where that other guy got that from haha

weather ppl buy ps3 for movies or for games, devs will keep making good games for the system. I mean where else will devs go, xbox? pls xbox is a dying console or dead (rrod). its been on the decline since the day it release. dont believe me? well just check npd, sales has been going down since jan ( dont blame shortage, its fake) and will continue to do so. Price drop you say? what makes you think ps3 won't counter with a price drop? xbox is about to die in europe and its dead in japan. everything is falling into its rightful order, that is the ps3 victory over xboxvirtuas

People are just mad that sony made a smart marketing move......this just smells like damage control............are you angry that blueray didn't become the next beta-max, are you mad that sony didnt become the next 3DO, really why all the hate.......no AAAE games, depends on what site you look at. Stop crying, wipe you eye and just game on whatever console you prefer.

I will say the xbox is on the decline but im not a big enough fanboy to say its dead quite yet......on a side note i cant wait for halo wars, its gonna be better then halo 3 imo.......only because i love the RTS genre

marketing move my ***. it was a business decisions because they're invested in bluray.

and don't count your chickens yet pal, bluray can still end up like betamax or laserdisc - imo both bluray and hddvd weren't enough of a step up in terms of quality. it all depends on how dim the average consumer is, if they think it's worth it to replace their dvd collection when the US is on the edge of a massive depression then i guess bluray deserves to win.

and what other sites:? check out gamerankings.com or any other meta ranking site -- ps3 doesn't have a single AAAE. and besides all that it doesn't matter, only GS scores count in SW champ ;)
