32GB Wii U (premium) + Zombi-U will be 400 here. While not exactly cheap, I wouldn't call it outrageously expensive.

EDIT: That would be 400 euros. Gamespot forum doesn't support euro-sign?

Probably an error. They can't directly translate euro to BP (or is it even USD to BP this time?)

Nintedo-where-is-the-value-in-your-new-system complaint reception is where? nothing to do with conversion rates. £299 for xbox graphics, a very basic tablet and games priced higher than wiis? Good luck nintendo.

Isn't the gaming market in the UK driven by the retailers, not MSRP's?

It will drop soon, at least in the UK. Doesn't Nintendo let European stores set their own prices?

I walked past GAME earlier today, I noticed they have a deal going "Trade in your console for 150% trade-in value towards a wii u"

I thought "oh great! I barely use by Xbox 360 Slim 250gb... being a poor mans pc with barely any unique games, I could upgrade!"

Then I saw the price for the first time. £45 for mario bros wii-u. £40 for normal controller. £50 for wii-mote+knunchuck.

While the deal would be good for me as it will save what... I dunno £150 off a wii-u. £299 for a barebones console that isnt much of a graphical or hardrive push (32GB..... YAY.) it is still a friggin crazy price for EVERYTHING related to it.

How the hell do they think this will be anywhere near as successful as the Wii was at this price level? and now games that cost as much if not more than xbox/ps3 brand new games.

Blows my mind.

was really interested but damn, can anyone justify this?

Before you start harping on about Apple, think about it, the iPad is a better deal than the WiiU. Its a great device that can browse the web, play movies and TV shows, play games and its portable. Hell if you dont like the iPad then theres a whole host of Android tablets that smoke the WiiU.

Yup, in overall functionality yes, no doubt. But Wii U can offer both console style gaming and tablet style gaming, therefore in theory purely game wise , there is much more potential. Give me a Smash Bros with BRILLAINT feature rich competitive online and my god I would pay the whole £300 without whining. but all thye currently got is yet another "NEW MARIO BROS" ... not really NEW anymore is it =/

Its designed as a games console so if it didnt play games well I'd be worried. But I personally believe the WiiU will be up against tablets this Christmas, specially with the £299 price point it puts it smack bang in the middle of tablet terrority.

Yes, really. Games are a luxury. If you don't like the prices, find another hobby.

its easy to game on a thrifty budget and its been proven.

£299 for the tech thats in the box and what we've seen make it a pretty crappy deal no matter how anyone wraps it up,its around £100 more than its competitors and they will no doubt get a price drop to widen the gap.

It will sell on the basis of the tablet gimmick and much like the wii itself i can see it being left in the dust when the other 2 launch a year later with more power and the same pricepoint range.

Honestly anyone shelling out £300 for this bit of kit is a madman and a hypocrite if they are one of those folks who bash apple for overpricing.

they probably will launch a year later, take advantage of hardware advances and retain a similar pricepoint to Wii U/360 launch which was £300.

What irks me is the fact the tech inside the wii-u's box isnt really up to snuff.

That's what I said, I was shocked too. I don't think people understand, the 360 launched at £280 and this things only a bit more powerful.

Didn't Reggie say i'd be pleasantly surprised by the price. Man I want to hit him when he smiles.

It depends, I hope you wont expect the next playstation or Xbox to be priced the same as a WiiU should they offer significantly better hardware / features..

Even though not cheap I think GBP299 for a new Console is not much, so for me WiiU is reasonably priced specially if it launches with many great titles and offers a solid Free online service.. those who think its expensive can always wait a couple of years and get it cheaper..

For whats on offer hardware wise, right now you'd be better opting for a competitor in my book.

Should be £250 max considerign the hardware under the hood, and the fact you could probably get a laptop with more horsepower than that in its price bracket.

Its not just the power that pains me. Its the lack of any real HDD space suggesting that we either fork out another £50 for a 500GB external, or there will be any lack of modern game ehancement features E.G installing for faster load or mods. IS the online up to scratch with at least PSN? does anyone know this yet? Xbox 8 will probably be the same price, around modern PC level (which in a console would be fantastic) and have kinect 2 built in. At this point I would rather invest in built in Kinect 2 (Much higher resolution and response apperently) than the gimmicky wii tablet that only works in a radius. Hell, if I want the Xbox-U experience, I am 99% sure i am getting a microsoft surface which will not only act in a very similar fashion to the Wii-U but act as everything else in my digital existence.... and even then still have more games. for £299 I would expect the tablet to be a stand alone system where you can preload a game on it and play it anywhere, smash bros on the move? yes please.

£250 to £300

I am vaguely interested in Wii U, moreso for the thought of HD Zelda and Metroid in the future, but wtf is this...

  • Wii was $250 in US. £180 in UK if I am not mistaken.
  • Wii U basic is $300 in US. £250 in UK.

How does a $50 increase from original Wii price become a £70 from original Wii price in the UK?

I know some places had Wii U available for preorder for around £200 and £210, and I have a feeling that is closer to the correct price but retailers are trying to milk hardcore fans (Nintendo can't set RRP in UK or some sh*t like that). Hopefully it drops before launch, don't get me started on the Zombi U bundle price.

The price will fall massively once people don't buy it... which they wont given that so many casuals were burnt by the Wii and it's family friendly motion controls. With thousands of nintendo consoles now gathering dust in people's cupboards, they are hardy going to run out and buy a new one.

That is not good, the WII U has low hype the press is not on its side, and many of its game are just re releases of games already out. If it does come out a 400+ price range in the US it will flop

you do realize when the wii first came out it was at 250. the wii u is only a 100 dollars more with wayyyyy better hardware. stop thinking like a cheap bum because if you have a job , you can afford it !!!

What a childish arguement. Original Wii was £175. this is £300 for the even slightly tolerable hardware version. nearly double the price. and they eve charge £45 for their games instead of the wii's cheaper £35. The entire system screams overpriced.

Delusional, u re. Wii was garbage back in 2006. Way better hard rofl.

350 euros for 1gb ram for games, ancient 3 core cpu, 60 euros gpu, 30gb storage lol. Gtfo with that.

Console is 100 bux euros overpriced. It ll sell out in holidays, hype, low shipment, but spring 2013 and on? Flop in west, mark it.

It may have to do with the fact that retailers demanded Nintendo to up the price from $200 to $250 in NA, maybe they sold Wii at its original price in the UK.
