Betheseda seems to be incapable of making a game with decent gameplay.

It's like they spend almost all of their devlopment on time on creating the world and make gameplay their last priority.

Stringerboy

the gameplay fine it's not the greatest, but it isn't as "bad" as everyone is making it sound

I haven't played Dragon's Dogma, though I'd like to, but my problem with Skyrim is how easy it is to become overpowered. I wanted to go the stealthy archer route, so I did. While difficult and somewhat mundane at first, I'm now level 44, play on Master, and am only killable by dragons and traps. It's boring.

So are Cows going to start hating on Skyrim because of their butthurt over how much of a mess it is on the PS3?

LostProphetFLCL

The game sucks dude. Worst gameplay I've seen in a long time...

Actually it was easily better than anything else put out last year.

Love the butthurt though!

No butthurt here. I have skyrim and couldn't be bothered to go back and play it. Incredibly boring game. I love your insecurity though, keep it up!

Having played Skyrim on my PC and Dragon's Dogma on my PS3, I can say that I believe Dragon's Dogma is the better game. I put 30 hours into Skyrim, and got so bored with the story and combat that I never got around to finishing it. Dragon's Dogma, on the other hand, had post-game content like new enemies, two new "final" bosses, and a new game plus. I've been playing Dragon's Dogma for about 70 hours, and have beaten the game twice now (second playthrough has fast travel!). I honestly can't imagine how people would enjoy Skyrim more. It seems so uninspired and bland.

As much as I love Skyrim, the article makes some good points. When it comes down to actual mechanics, Bethesda is not very talented. Hell they can't even make you climb up ladders right, they just use them as "Gate Ways" or load sections to transition to a different enviornment. They don't know how to actually get them to work right.

Even the NES had ladders that could work right, even N64 and PS1 could get ladders to work right. Bethesda cannot for some reason. This is because they are not actually that very good when you get down to it.

Again I love their games, but they definately could use much improvement.

I thought the combat design for Dragon Dogma worked well, but I thought the game lacked a sufficient area for exploration, it lacked a variety of larger monsters, and it lacked a significant amount of side quests as well as not much of a main quest. The game could have benefited from co-op it was a shame it didn't have it, but being able to play with friends pawns was at least something. I felt the game promised more in ways of exploration, monsters, quests, I found myself grinding a bit doing side quests hoping there'd be more when I dove further into the games main story and quests, but then it just ended. I know there was DLC but I've no idea what it added to the game, but I wasn't too impressed with the main game to give the DLC a shot. I felt Skyrim had lots of potential, huge world, but I found the quests to be very lacking in design, and the auto-generated quests felt so cookie cutter. I liked the changes made to magic combat, as well as changes made to the leveling and skills system. Overall I felt the game needed more amusing quests. Though I'm used to playing Elder Scrolls GOTY editions for Morrowind and Oblivion, so maybe the game just felt lacking since I got it on release... still though, guild quests felt lacking, and side quests didn't seem to have the variable paths available in previous titles, instead it's like the Jarl wants me to kill auto generated troll/dragon at some location then collect reward. And I felt personally disappointed with Sheogorath's cameo quest, I felt they could have done more with his appearance. I had fun playing both games, but I was disappointed in many ways at the end of each game, though both titles show great promise for future entries.

i agree with two of his points but the exploration part i have to disagree with, there are far more locations in Skyrim, the Map is larger, you can actually swim in skyrim and explore underwater and Dragons dogma doesn't contain area's that are nearly half as memorable as the dwemer ruins, sunken ships and there is also a lot more variety in the creatures in Skyrim, Dragons dogma was pretty much Goblins, Zombies, bandits, Skeletons, wolves, chimera's,lizards, dragons and griifins and not much else, Skyrim has orcs, elves, Cat people, lizard people, skeletons, zombies, dragons, tigers, wolves ,Bears, wisps, trolls, giants, woolly mammoths, witches, sealions, crabs, spriggen, bandits and such like, to say Dragons dogma has more variety in characters, creatures and races is silly. Skyrim is a much larger more realised world with far more memorable places and far more to do and explore than dragons dogma, i loved the combat and the fact that the choices have consequence but as far as exploration and creatures and the sheer number of things to do skyrim hammers it into the ground, Dragons dogma is a very godd ACTION ADVENTURE game but as far as WRPG's go Skyrim is the better of the two hands down.

Dragon's Dogma is a great game, but it's not without problems. I think Skyrim is abetter game overall, however there are many things that Dragon's Dogma does far better than Skyrim, particularly combat. Skyrim's combat is a bore by comparison, especially when fighting large enemies. The dragon encounters in Skyrim got dull after the first handful, and when you come to the realization that you will never do anything more than whack at the dragon's feet and face, it takes you out of the experience. I'm pretty sure that is now how a real dragon slayer would fight.

I don't think I could play dragons dogma, because it is widescreen like what the hell blurays are even widescreen. I think HDtvs are 16:9 so that movies don't have to be widescreen, and it annoys the hell out of me.

My Dragon Dogma is in the mail. I see it got some mixed reviews. I can live with that. I only spent $35 for a brand new copy off Ebay. So I'll see if it's at least worth that.

I played maybe 15h of DD and I thought it was rather average, the combat was fine but it was pretty much the only thing better than Skyrim,in everything else Skyrim is far superior, not even close.

Both are awesome games (hell DD is one of my underrated games this gen), Skyrim is better in my book though cause of it's world just feels a lot better than DD world did.

I really want to get back into Skyrim because I love exploring the world Bethesda created, but the combat is just too stale and unsatisfying to hold my interest. I'll have to explore some mods that might help this.

Skyrim is just a better game. I don't see how that's arguable.
