Many people try to over exagerrate this problem. I only had to repair mine once becuase i had it in a tight place which led to overheating but no problems since i got the replacement even got a free month of XBL when it returned.CrimsonBlade360
It's not even being over exagerrated, it is actually a real problem. My 360 died yesterday for good. My brother sent a letter to tech suppost about the red lights and they sent a email back saying "be specific on how many red lights are blinking." WTH
the 360 is just a crappy product

Well, the ring gives you info on what the failure is. Unless you've got 3 rings, you usually don't have much to worry about. So if your bro just said "I got red lights on my 360", it could mean "a monkey took a soldering iron to my console" or it could mean "I didn't plug the A/V cord". You can't just said it ringed and hope they know exactly what happened.
Still, sorry to hear about your console. I would definitely reccomend you speak to them on the phone, that'll speed things up since they can immediately ask you for any extra info they need, instead of mailing back and forth.

Personally, my console is 11 months old, and no rings yet....so, I'd say its more due to innapropriate ventilation and misuse, butyes its an issue MS has that need to correct, but its getting abit exaggerative with PS3 Fanboys.

The last thing we need is some fanboy saying they have a launch console that it still works so everyone one else must be lying.AntiType
I wont say everyone else is lying but, I have a working launch console...
It seems a shame that we have to preface our complaints about MS's quality with proof that we aren't incompetent. Why are so many refusing to see that 360 failure rates are a huge problem? I'll add my admittedly weak statistical support, with the preface that I too am a 30+ year old gamer. Nearly all of my gaming friends are casual Xbox loyalists that primarily play sports games. All of them are intelligent professionals who know how to take care of their equipment. None of them use their systems excessively. Of the 12 that I know with a 360, 7 of them have had a system failure, and 4 of those have had more than one. Frankly, I don't understand why MS hasn't dealt with this at some fundamental level. I find it mindboggling that a machine with this much research behind it would have such severe endemic flaws. It really is a pity, since the 360 game libary is shaping up to be great. I really hope MS solves whatever problems plague the 360. Until they do, I'll continue to refrain from getting one.
So Microsoft is not going to repair any more consoles that have been affect with the 3 red rings? What about the customers!!! The Customer's always right as long as they got the money......Hermitkermit
Reading Comprehension FTW!!! Now where in that article did it say "Microsoft"?

My cousins 360 just died for the 4 time inside of 5 weeks the other day, he tried the towel trick once again, only this time it didn't come back.
What M$ is doing to the consumer is just criminal
I am a huge 360 supporter, and although I own all three, I won't deny that I enjoy my 360 the most. I am a responsible 33 year old, and I take PERFECT care of all my systems. Hell, with the guide button powering it up, the only time I even TOUCHED my system was to change games. I have a smoke free, pet free home... dozens of cubic feet of airspace around the 360, plugged directly in the wall, and all the other things you can/need to do to treat your 360 like a king........ and I am on my 3rd one. MS even LOST my first one at the repair shop, and some of you may remember my rantings back when that happened. I willingly admit, that although I prefer the 360, they have serious PS2 type quality issues. Period.remaGloohcSdlO
You are not the only one, there's a kid who's on this 12th 360! MS made a shoddy unreliable mess and they should put out a massive recall, but reality is they wont.

Yet, it still outsells the PS3..sad for it huh?I read somewhere that the company was receiving around 2500 units from Europe a day, and they said they could no longer handle the load. This is about to become front stage for MS's PR department, as I doubt this will be the last we hear. There are always hardware defects, but this sounds like there is definately a design flaw, ie..warping motherboard.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is simply a 3rd party repair company correct? Can't you just send the 360 to Microsoft and have them fix or replace it? I'm not sure why anyone would use the services of this company...maybe if you're out of warranty and it's cheaper than have MS fix it?Bleach_is_basic
Its interesting how soon people forget....
"But if you send Sony your PS2 after its 90-day warranty has expired, your wallet also becomes $130+ lighter. Sony charges this steep fee to repair a PS2, no matter what the problem is. "

Ding, ding, ding!!! We have a winner. This company is not affiliated with MS. The don't do repairs for MS, per se. They repair video consoles...all kinds of video consoles.
It is like taking your lawn mower to the small engine repair company when it breaks, instead of to the manufacturer, or purchase place? Why? Presumably because of cheaper cost & better service, less time etc.
However, when you get something repaired you usually get some limited warranty. Undoubtably these guys were getting stiffed because they would 'fix' 360s, but then have some customers come back a short time later with the same problem...and likely they had to re-fix for free. In other words, they don't have a real viable solution/fix for the long term, so they cannot afford to offer fixes to something they can't really fix.
This is why fixed refurbished units have also been failing at an alarming rate. Which is why so many people are on 2nd or 3rd boxes, etc. We shall see if the rumour of extra cooling now provided in repairs from MS is true or not, soon enough, and whether this helps or eliminates the problem.
And yes I am a big 360 fan. And yes mine died. And yes I am awaiting repair (and hope extra cooling is provided). And yes I freely admit their is a major manufacturing/design flaw. And yes I still think it is the best console for me. And yes you should get as much warranty as possible if you buy a 360.

Why didn't you just call? That way if they needed more information from you they could have gotten it then and there. Email is the worst way to deal with a technical problem. People are never as specific as they need to be in an email. There will always be questions.sorry you have issues.
The 360's failure rate is inexuseable. Never trust MS to deliver a stable product.TimstuffLike Sony with the PS2?

Exactly. You should call. I understand why people don't...I hate call centres myself. I waited a day a little pissed about whether to call, email, or whatever.
I called. And it was easy. That's the only good thing!!! They have a very well developed script. First customer name, box serial number, and warranty time or not. That takes 2 mins. They know exactly what to ask you. And they will confirm/cover all the possibilities. Have you cleared the cache, have you removed the hard drive, is the light green on the power brick, are the av cables seated properly. They will go through the checklist...it takes another 2 mins. Once they have eliminated the other possibilities...no problem sir...here's the return process...blah, blah. That takes another 2 mins. Then they confirm warranty again, or get a credit card payment if you are out of warranty. Another 2 mins. Total time will be 8 mins, following a well developed script. It is easy...not that I am happy I had to go through the process...but really, at least it went quickly and smoothly.

Yeah, It can be a pain in the ass, but the sooner you do it, the sooner you get your console back. But the Wii and PS3 dont require a warranty. So why should the 360? The warranty adds another $30 to the price and requires you to be without a gaming machine for 2-4 weeks while its getting fixed.1. Why are you sendind your console to them anyway? They aren't Microsoft. I've never even heard of them.
2. A warrantee is your best friend. Use them.

Yeah, it is annoying. My 360 hasn't died yet and I've had it for more than a year, but it's really stupid to say there isn't a problem. On the other hand, PS2 fanboys do the same thing about the PS2's problems..I smell a huge lawsuit in the future for MS on this and it won't be so easy to brush off as the first one they had.Something definitely needs to be done.
