Will it ever end?

Here we are near 1 1/2 years since the consoles release and MANY people are still having hardware failures. $400 is alot of money to throw around and M$ doesn't seem to be addressing the issue.

Some might say well they are coming out with the Elite and what not.. But guess what? It's the same hardware that's in the other 360's besides a hdmi port and 120gig hdd which has no effect on improving hardware reliability.

I was thinking about getting a 360 but this just turns me off from buying it. I dont wanna dish out the money just to find out *knowing my luck right after my warranty is up* that my 360 has failed. You would think that the PS3 would be having alot more hardware failures because of the new technology built in but Sony actually built a solid system this time.

I never was aware of this. I haven't considered buying a 360, but this really makes me upset for my friends who shelled out the dough to get one.

Theres a reason it comes with a Warranty. Mines never died on me, but my friends died yesterday. He lost his receipt and had to pay £90 for the repair.

They clearly haven't worked out the heat issues yet. Apparently it has the same priority as BC.

I've had my 360 from the first day of launch and never had any problems with it.

It would be good to know if the xbox360's that have just broke where purchased near launch or more recently.  It might be the case that the 360 bought recently are not braken down as much as they used to.

I went online last night to play some rainbow6 for the first time in a week or so and I had 3 messages from friends waiting. 2 of them said their 360 broke and the the third was a guy who just got his broken one replaced so he was back online.

From my 100 man friendslist atleast 12 have had a broken 360 and a few even had one break up to 4 times.

I'm sure some won't believe me but its true. Great games but the crappiest hardware ever. Whoever though the ps2 was bad doesn't know the 360. And we're not even talking about how often it locks up or has a disc read error.

question where was your rant when he ps2 was breaking down on people when i can out and it took well over a year to address the issue. even when a court made sony fix there defective systems. i never once heard you cows say a word. nor did i see stupid trhreads such as this one keep coming up. all systems break down thats why warrenty where made. i had my 360 over a year and i never had it break down or need a fan or repairs. so do us all a favor STFU and play your pos3.

So I guess you don't think there is any problem with Xbox360 hardware?  That it is made to last and built with consumer quality in mind?

I got my 360 in Feb and have had to bring back a gears of war disc which was a known problem with those discs. It has damaged my 99 nights game (not a big deal because the game sucks). Just Cause freezes every now and again for no reason and I have to turn off the console to get it going again. That's 3 more problems than I ever had with my Gamecube. I think a lot of these problems are from the game manufacturers as I think Just Cause freezes because of some odd programming and Gears disc problem. However the 99 nights problem was the console itself which is unacceptable. I've never had any product damage a disc on me before. Hope I don't see that again with my 360. Just got lucky that it was a crap game it happened to. Overall, I'm still very happy with the 360 though because the games are so good.

Mine died on Wednesday,3 flashing red lights. No hint it was going to die on me.This was my second after my launch 360 died after 2 months so it is out of warranty. The thing that pissed me off was it'll cost me £85(~$160) to get fixed and I need to pay by credit card...which I don't bloody own.So I'm going to have to get a credit card before I can get it sorted. So now I have a broken 360 will loads of great games which I can't play and a PS3 with jack **** to play on.Thank god for world of Warcraft to relieve my boredom.

Actually, they are. They have already extended the warranty on the 360 to one year and offered to reimburse those who did pay for repairs. Free shipping of the console and a five day waiting period are guaranteed now. So in terms of customer service, they are doing a lot.

On the manufacturing side, I heard that they are switching to another company to manufacture the 360. Microsoft does not manufacture the 360 themselves - they outsource that to another company. They may have had a one year contract with this one company that is responsible for so many faulty 360s, and that contract may not have been renewed. Who knows what happens behind closed doors.

In addition, the new 60nm chips are coming this year so the 360 will be running hopefully cooler & quieter.

So Microsoft is doing all they can. They can't just wave a magic wand and proclaim that all the problems will be fixed.

I don't get the point of this thread? 360 problems is old news already, or is this thread meant to bash the 360 some more? Honestly what is your point? Your state 1.5years later "MANY" people still have hardware failures? It would be nice if you could link your accusations. And of those broken 360s you don't know which ones were launch consoles or not. So for all you know the current 360s out now could be problem free. Tired of people like you making ignorant threads.

Sad but mine broke lastnight, had it since 2005 so was gonna happen sooner or later, rang them up say it's gonna cost me 85£ to repair the thing, but there computers were updating so will have to ring them soon. I heard somewhere that they ain't sending box's out anymore, you have to find your own box they just send the labels now, is this true or what?

My 360 is a launch console and i've never had a problem. Heh, failures seem to be exaggerated IMO. I know alot of people with 360's and they've never had a problem.

These things are exaggerated 99% of the time because it's only the people with broken consoles that come forth and talk about it. You don't have the millions of other users that have theirs working perfectly coming forth because there is no reason for them to.

Ive had my 360 since launch, and the disc drive messed up once a couple months ago, and MS said that they didnt care about the warranty(I think they extended it by alot) and they took my console for repair anyway, and even payed for everything(S&H, etc.)

Really though, a 1 year warranty and free shipping is the kind of stuff you take for granted. While it is good that they finally realize what total ****heads they've been to the consumer they're still ****heads for being ****heads in the first place. It's truly completely unbelievable that they got away with a 90 day ****ing warranty and forcing the consumer to pay for shipping as long as they did. I'm guessing what with the number of failed 360's growing into crazy numbers they grew a bit concerned regarding lawsuits.

I don't believe that 360's break down as much as people say they do. I got a PS2 at launch, and people were complaining. It never broke, so when I get a 360 it probably wont break down. Then again, I don't have one yet.

Well, I will say that most of the people I know with 360's complained about getting "the red ring of death" or the "three lights", and it was a lot of people.

Well, I will say that most of the people I know with 360's complained about getting "the red ring of death" or the "three lights", and it was a lot of people.

Let me guess most of them were the premium system's as well? I really dont hear much about the core failing but then again I guess not many people buy the core system anyways.

Will it ever end?

Here we are near 1 1/2 years since the consoles release and MANY people are still having hardware failures. $400 is alot of money to throw around and M$ doesn't seem to be addressing the issue.

Actually, they are. They have already extended the warranty on the 360 to one year and offered to reimburse those who did pay for repairs. Free shipping of the console and a five day waiting period are guaranteed now. So in terms of customer service, they are doing a lot.

I'm guessing what with the number of failed 360's growing into crazy numbers they grew a bit concerned regarding lawsuits.

since when is 3% "crazy numbers"...? when it's way less than the average for new technology..

fanboys...

Obviously there were enough people who were complaining about broken 360s for MS to extend the warranty and pay for S&H and repairs unless you really think they did this out of the kindness of their heart and concern for the consumer.

They all have premiums because they think the core sucks. I think the core is a good deal.

so, you have 5,300 threads as "proof" out of 10 MILLION+ consoles....?

whatta ratio...

And wow one site, That doesnt even do justice for anything. Alot of people dont even get on web forums and talk about how their system broke down.

and many, many have been caught being non-360 owners who are adolescent fanboys...;)

3% is the official number.. until you have anthing different, all else is opinion.. which is funny becuase the opinions of those saying it breaks a LOT are those who don't have one... ie; the tc...;)

And we're not even talking about how often it locks up or has a disc read error.

elcoholic
I still have my xbox after 3-4 yrs, still running great except the tray sometime does not pop out when i press the eject button. Other than that, it is fine. Anyway, I think my xbox is better quality than the 360. So, what happens when the warranty is over and the 720 comes out and your 360 break, damn, I want hw that req little or no maintenace... I want it to last and this issue is holding me back from getting a 360.

You would think that the PS3 would be having alot more hardware failures because of the new technology built in but Sony actually built a solid system this time.

hate to break it to ya but this thread isnt opinion based. It's a fact that alot of 360's are breaking down. You can try and steer away from it by coming up with excuses and what not but that isnt going to change anything

maybe you're confused what a "fact" is, since most of you think your opinion is "fact"..

let me help:

1. 3% is the rate of failure according to those who are tracking, MS.... that's a FACT.

2. "the 360's break down more than they should because a bunch of anonymous teenage fanboys said so",  is an OPINION.

hope this helps...;)

gawd..i can't wait until spring break is over and the fanboys go back to school... they really need it..
