Okay, so I know this has been done millions of times, but I don't have too many other people to talk to about games, so I thought I would ask here.
I'll start of by saying I'm 18 years old (female if it matters) and going to be paying for everything myself, and I'm undecided on whether I should go with a Wii or 360, though honestly I'm leaning more towards a Wii, but I don't want to regret it later and fall into "The Hype" trap.
I don't care about hype though, as I already own a Playstation 3, and I don't plan on having more than 2 systems this generation unless I get lucky (Got the Playstation 3 for free), so I need something to complete this. Either a 360 to go along side it, or a Wii.
Wii Pros
+ I like the uniqueness, and how it's different from the other consoles.
+ I like the upcoming line up of Super Smash brothers, and Metroid Prime 3, and the existing Twlight Princess, and maybe I'd give Super Paper Mario a try.
+ It's only $250, so I can buy this faster when I get all the money together.
+ I play on a standard definition television.
+ Seems like harmless fun
Wii Cons
- I don't like all the casual games, and I don't want to be stuck playing them all the time.
- I don't like the peripheral prices in the least bit
- Outside of Super Smash brothers, Zelda, and Metroid Prime, I'm not sure what else I want for 2008 and beyond
- It's $250, I don't like the idea of paying that for Gamecube hardware, and getting Wiiplay which I don't want.
- Unproven online so far
-No interest in virtual console games. Don't like the idea of paying $8 for a Sonic game.
Xbox 360 Pros
+ It's an Xbox 360 and I liked original Xbox
+ It has a great online (Minus the community)
+ I really like Xbox Live Arcade, sometimes I don't feel like playing a full game
+ Xbox Live Arcade again, because it seems really cool
+ It's gaining a lot of support from other developers, and combined with the PS3, I'd never miss a game I want.
+ Seems to be getting a lot of anime game support with the Naruto game (seems to be pretty good), and the only Dragonball Z game coming soon.
+ I already pay for Xbox Live
+ People I know all have 360's
Xbox 360 Cons
- I have a Playstation 3. It seems like there is no need to dump $400-480 on a system that gets the same games.
- I don't like playing first person shooters all the time, and the only shooter that interests me is Gears of War, which I've already played and beaten.
- Hardware failures kills me everytime. I passed on the Xbox 360 because of the reports I was hearing on the news. Though everyone I know who has an Xbox 360 had to return it, plus the reports I hear online. I feel it is too conincidental, for the hardware to not be built poorly, and I don't want to go through the process of returns.
- I don't have an HDTV and won't be getting one for a long time.
- I don't fit in with the Xbox 360 crowd and stereotypes.
- I don't like Halo 3 (Multiplayer), and I honeslty don't know what games I would want for this system, that are not shooters, that I can't find on my PS3.
So those are my reasons for liking and disliking the Wii and 360. I'm honestly leaning more towards the Wii, but I don't want to regret it 2 years later, like I did the Gamecube, and although I'm leaning towards a Wii, I just can't let the Xbox 360 go out of my mind, even though I know it's nothing I'm looking forward to besides Mass Effect, and Fable 2 ( I know very little about those games). So based on this, how would you all decide, and is there anything else I could know about the 360 or Wii, that would help sway my decision more in either direction.
