I'm not willing to go through that again with the Xbox360. (I'm going to make the very large and probably false assumption that the RROD issue is being resolved with newer/cooler chipsets and GPUs. But there is something else systemically wrong if disc reading errors persist across 2 generation. And no, cooler chips are not going to fix that.)

Never had a disc read error on Xbox or 360. Perhaps you should use a DVD lens cleaner disc.
I have had RRoDs, but no disc read errors, except for the famous ones on my PS2.
Never owned a PS2 so I can't comment on the DRE (although I'm sure it's not a fictional issue since I've heard so many complaints)
I used the lens cleaner disks almost religiously near the end of the Xbox's lifespan. I was putting one in before booting each game up in order to get an hour or two of play time in. No success.
