I'm not worried, but SO has never been able to compete with FF.

I don't care though, I play SO for the fun gameplay.

FF is SE's Main Franchise, they are going to make that the grand daddy of their Graphics.

I disagree. Jrpg games are one of the genres out there where graphics don't matter. There are some great ones from SNES, N64, and PS1 games that are good as or better than some of the jrpg games that have come out last gen and this gen.

yeah, it could use some as well. i just find it a bit... different that the 360 is getting some especially since the original Xbox had almost none that I can recall while the PS2 had a million and probably still has more coming. i'm just glad there's also more for the 360 because I'm tired of all these shooters...

I honestly have ZERO idea why ANYONE is hyping a star ocean game. The only people who could be hyping a star ocean game are people who have never played it, as even the fans themselves arent hyping this AAA.

It has always been a sub-par series, and if SO4 is just like SO3 was, you'll be in for a huge disappointment, as that was probably one of the worst jrpg i have ever played.

Graphically, yea, but in my opinion FF13 > SO4, most likely.

That being said, FF3 wont be >>> than SO4 and to be honest, SO4 will be a very, very good game.

Why not? It seems more than reasonable to assume that S04 will be typical SO fare, and it's fairly reasonable to assume that FF will be typical FF fare, so, assuming all other things are equal (comparative analysis of the two series aside, for argument's sake), why not hype based on visuals?

I would say that visuals are one of the main draws when I'm looking to buy a new JRPG (something that actually happens now and then, depending on my mood) so hyping such a title based on its graphics seems perfectly reasonable to me.

There are some few old school fps games that are still good even after all this time against some of the newer games out there. For example Halo: CE or Duke Nukem 3D(pc). I do think however graphics are more important in shooters than in jrpg games especially the ones where you play online with and agaisnt others, but graphics isn't the main importance it is on how well the developers make the game.

i was being a bit sarcastic, but i have to agree with you there. a lot of huge graphics debates these days involve those type of games. gameplay all the way, regardless of genre

Well no, when you have a series like that, the titles are almost always different games, but that doesn't mean that FF doesn't have a common thread (or a common rope) running throughout the series.

One great example of graphics doesn't matter for jrpg games is Persona 3. I found the game fresh due to how you interact with other npc's and found the characters in the game unique compare to other jrpg games out there. However I found the battle system tedious and repetitive after awhile and I dreaded doing the Taratus runs. Still it was a overall good game that got rpg goty last year from GS.

I'm willing to bet most 360 owners that are hyping this haven't even played a SO game before. Seriously, most die hard jrpg fans aren't even hyping this game after the crap that was SO3.Zoso-8

But that monster with the crazy ass snake/bird arms looks so cool!

Star Ocean hasn't been great since Pt. 2. Tri-Ace should just develop a Valkyrie Profile 3 IMO.jasonharris48

FFX-2 - ugh, make me puke

FFXI - some of the races and classes were nice, but otherwise just a horrible MMO.

FFXII - didn't bother with it, as I've heard alot of bad things about it.

FFXIII - could go either way, could be great, could be absolutely mediocre

Give any Final Fantasy a different name and I guarantee you it'll get a lower score than it would with the name Final Fantasy. (this does not include Tactics, which is AWESOME)
