"This update is free for PlayStation 3 owners and is included with the second patch. Xbox 360 owners must pony up 160 Microsoft points ($2)."

Probably because few bought the below average game in the first place. And I'm pretty sure MS gives publishers a free patch.

since the update(more content) is also included in the patch microsoft thinks it's ok to charge people. Same thing happened with metro2033 on the 360 version.

First it's not a patch, it's an add-on that's being included with the upcoming patch for the ps3 version. Nice way for the OP to skew a report to meet his agenda.. "Activision has released a downloadable add-on for NASCAR 2011 that updates tracks, vehicles, and other features to bring the game up to date for the 2011 season. This update is free for PlayStation 3 owners and is included with the second patch. Xbox 360 owners must pony up 160 Microsoft points ($2)."

They are not charging for the patch, they are charging for the add-on. Ps3 players are getting it included with a patch... So I guess if you play the ps3 version, you have to get the update..where as the 360 players have options. options are always bad.

I do not think he intentionally did so... I had to read the quote a few times before realizing what it actually meant.

Whats the difference between the updates(ps3/360)? Is there really extra content on the 360 version?

They both have extra content. It's a DLC update. On the PS3, it is free and automatically included in a game patch. On the 360, the update is seperate from the patch and costs money.

Exactly. They know their userbase will pay without question.

Sadly I think this is true, people don't stand up for anything with that service.

Funny how it's MS "charging" for the patch. In actuality, it's the publisher. MS charged them and they are passing the cost on to the consumer. Something that would not be done if the game was succesful.

I didn't mean to skew the agenda. If you open the links it says "Update Type: Patch".
Anyways, paying 2$ for a game that called "Nascar 2011" just to have it updated to reflect the 2011 season doesn't sound right.

That's right, I'm pretty sure it's the publisher, If MS can let Burnout Paradise came out with free DLC, I'm sure they would allow free update for this game as well.

I think if Activision had their way, they'd micro charge for everything. That way they could slowly increase the price, until gaming becaomes as expensive to do in one year as a house costs.

Not true. MS require a charge on extra content. We saw this with L4D content. Valve wanted to put them out for free, Microsoft wouldn't let them. Publishers could have made it free if they took out the content though.

That's not the way I have heard it, I know this old saying, from a friend of mine that was a community manager at one point for Codemasters. MS allows publishers to put free content on XBL, if the publisher pays for the content to be there. It's up to the publisher to decide if they want to pay the fee, or make the customers pay the fee. Besides, this isn't a patch, its an addon that happens to be included in a patch on the ps3.

But sony is not charging them so they give the update for free. But since this is Activision and not super meat ball developers, they can get away with charging of it on 360 while the PS3 version get it free,i don't think MS want to make Activision mad,and see the maps release first on PS3.

So basically you say it's called an add-on so MS can charge and Sony call it an update so it's free? It's still pathetic of MS charging for it in the first place.

Way to read what GameSpot posted. It's an add on that Activision is releasing, they are including said add on in a patch for the ps3 and releasing it as a solo add-on for the 360. MS and Sony arn't calling it anything, Actvision is. And Actvision has called it an add on for the ps3 and the 360, but including it in a patch for the ps3 version. Honestly, how hard is this to understand?I understand, OP and others hate MS so much they have to dig for small stuff like this, but it's not hard to comprehend if you can actually comprehend the english language.

Aren't you spinning this.? One get it free the other doesn't pretty simple to me no matter how different they are phrased in words.

Are you a fanboy? Seriously, im not trying to be offensive, but honestly; are you? Because you just made your own argument invalid. the ps3 is getting the addon free included in a patch. the Xbox 360 is getting the update, except with the addon being $2. In plain sight, its a rip off.

I don;t understand why it was free for one and not the other.

PtothaWHAT

Because PSN is open so developers are free to handle things their way, which makes the developers very happy with Sony.

With Xbox Live MS doesn't let devs do handle their own games the way they want to, instead MS decides what happens. And this pisses alot of devs off, like Epic games and Valve, MS basically runs Xbox Live like a dictator controlling an authoritive state, you can't handle your game like you want, you have to let MS decide for you.

It is very unfair and while the game is stupid and no one is going to buy it, that is still no reason to downplay it and pretend it's nothing. The devs made thier game and they have every right to gie thier fans what they want. And it's not right that MS says they can't.

Then why did I get a 300mb free content update for Test Drive Unlimited 2 on 360?

I don;t understand why it was free for one and not the other.

Because PSN is open so developers are free to handle things their way, which makes the developers very happy with Sony.

With Xbox Live MS doesn't let devs do handle their own games the way they want to, instead MS decides what happens.
