[QUOTE="iunderstand"]How is the Wii hype dying down when the Wii just had it's best month of sales in it's entire lifetime in the wake of the 360's biggest game to hit the console?trup522

I believe it was its second best month ever. But regardless, it is incredible at how it's selling so much in months where no huge games come out.

Sorry, just being nitpicky for some reason.

Yeah, the validility of this guy was pretty much ruined when he pretended to be the only journalist to predict the 360 outselling the competition in september.

Think about it: you're standing in line for a Wii and you're told it's sold out. Knowing all too well that your kids want a new video game console, the affordable Playstation 3 is sitting there for the taking. I find it hilarious how since Sony had a price drop, they make it sound like its some extremely cheap console. There is still a $350 Xbox 360, which is cheaper than the cheapest PS3 at $380 (the 20GB at GameStop)

279? with no hard drive, demos, pay 4 online over 399 with hard drive, remove Bc, free online and spiderman 3, trojan horse blueray player. hmm.

The x360 Arcade (Core with wireless controller and 256 memory card) was made for this specific purpose and will be $249 (now $279) at christmas, any parent that can't find a Wii will pick one of those up. Heck, it might even get some people to get a x360 over the Wii.

Dont know any1 sensible that would buy that its a bad invest. Premium or elite is way better deal. You might was well add the price of online gaming and harddrive to the arcade.

Just No - How?

A first time buyer would have to look at games out.

Figure some buy the 360 with the Forza 2 pack in - of course would grab Halo3, Gears, and Macc Effect.

My goodness what a holiday that will be for some...

Halo 3 FPS

Forza 2 Driver

Gears TPS

Mass Effect RPG

Just wow - pick a loser outta those !

The guy has his opinion and thats okay; mine Strongly says otherwise ! :P

PS: makes me wish I was getting a 360 for the first time. :)

Why? Parents are getting a video game system for the kids bedroom, Microsoft is offering them a much better proposition with the x360 Arcade than Sony is with it's $400 PS3. And that's not even taking the amount of games for the x360, especially budget priced titles, into account.

I think most holidaysystem shoppers ie. parents, would think Nintendo, and ifWii wasnt available they'd think playstation; mostmiddle-aged peopleconsider SONY products to be high qualityconsumer electronics. I doubt a360 would be picked up for Christmas unless specifically requested by some little HaloKid.

1.Wii/PS3

2.360 (Mass Effect wont sell systems like Halo DDIIDD!)

PS3's lineup is stronger than the 360's? Ratchet is fun, but there's no way it'll be better than Mass Effect. They're always the same game.

Then johnny gets home and finds hecan't play with his friends online until he spends another 50 dollars, just for the first year... then his controller runs out of power and he has to buy a charge kit... suddenly he's spent more than he would have on a 40 gig, let alone 20. :(

And rofl. Yeah, that's what the kids are clamoring over, an even lamer version of the core that's just selling so well already... not to mention it practically forces you (if you actually want to use the console) to give ms 50 dollars every year.

I mean... wtf? I'm beginning to think some of these "lemmings" are really MS reps, or MS shareholders.

I guarantee 12 year old kids wanted a ps3 last year and were told "600 dollars is too expensive". Whether they got a 360, ps3, or wii in the mean time is another story... but 400 dollars puts the PS3 in a... more affordable range... wouldn't you all agree?

I was a bit surprised by his predictions in the title thread, but when you actually read what he says, it does sort of make sense.

I just wouldn't have used the word "mediocre" for Xbox 360. I still think Halo 3 + Xbox 360 will be a big holiday seller.

And I agree the price drop of PS3 will help a lot too.

I bet manhunt 2 for the wii will be a huge game for the wii this holidays. It's a murder simulator with its motion sensing elements after all.

I'm guessing that because of the litttle bit of murder sim there was in godfather, it was really addictive. I would catch myself grabbing pedestrians and pulling them down the street, throwing them against walls and eventually strangling them when I wanted to leave and do something else. It is not a hardcore thing because it doesn't use much precision and doesn't add much to the gameplay, but casuals (and the casual in all of us) will love it because its just a really visceral thrill and a interesting curiosity at that.

BTW, it isn't sick or anything. It can sound like it, but it's really no closer to actual murder than shooting people in a video game.

it the ps name that will drive parents. even grandmothers know of the playstation name. now some may of heard of the 360 but it's probably because they heard it s a pos. The brand name on a product will sell anything if it's a strong name. DragonfireXZ95

Sorry, but fanboyism is not winning in the PS3 sales category, please choose another one. :)

weird why isn't my name on my post, but any way. its not fanboyism. brand names are a lot stronger then you think. Why do you think analyst aren't declaring the 360 the winner or have ever called the 360 the winner. why isn't the 360 selling world wide yea it had a spark in sells but not much to get everyone to change their views. Do you think ms could selll a system for 600 and make it to 5 million. I think not. You should go to best buy and circuit city and ask mothers which system they know of. You can think brand names aren't going to help all you want but you'll soon realize that having a good name like playstation will help in the long run

More delusional replies, just because it has the name playstation does not mean it will instantly win. honestly, my mom probably doesn't remember playstation or xbox, so in theory, she would probably buy the cheapest one if no one had told her anything about the consoles.

Also, if I had a say in it, I would tell her to get the xbox because I like it more. :P

Edit: Oh, and also, are you saying that Sony is a bigger brand name then Microsoft? Think about this for a minute.

delusional reply??? please answer the questions i post. then you'll see why a strong brand name is good. sony sold half the number of consoles and at a higher price with no games. why did it sell so many then. yes sony is a bigger name sony makes tv console and reliable products . When i think of ms i think of pos systems and crap os that rape you of money. There were really isn't a reason to argue with you seeing as how you would ask you mom to buy you a console i can tell your a kid and i don't argue with kids.

hes talking about what you get in the ps3 for 400. look yes the 360 has halo and is 50 cheaper but for 50 more you can get a blu-ray. This strategy will win over a lot of people.

Which is great if you have a Hi def TV. Believe it or not, owners of hi def are still in the minority even if you claim to have one and a majority of people here claim to have one. Otherwise that's still fifty extra bucks spent on a useless feature.

i don't have a high def tv. but i still bought the ps3.People are moving to high def too. times are changing, and its time to upgrade. but back to your reply. Its smarter to get a console with that has the most value. Consumers aren't stupid they see a ps3/blu-ray player or a 360/dvd player which one makes more sense to buy. Yes the ps3 games aren't all there yet but there coming and the the 360 is a pos. everyone knows it thanks to the media

"Now that NPD has released September 2007 figures, it strikes me as quite interesting that so many people were taken aback by the Xbox 360's jump to first place in hardware sales. In fact, if you remember an article I wrote back in September, it would have told you everything you needed to know about hardware sales for September.

But instead, there are a host of journalists and pundits making such a big deal out of the Xbox 360's rise, as if it wasn't expected. As I've said here hundreds of times before: videogames sell consoles, not the other way around.

So, with that in mind, I thought it would be nice to take a look at what is coming soon to a console near you and discuss what I think will happen by the time January rolls around. And while I still believe the Wii is a fad and Sony has some work to do, my conclusions may surprise you.

Microsoft Xbox 360

(Credit: CNET)

Generally speaking, it's Microsoft that has the most to worry about this holiday season. I believe the Xbox 360 will take the day when this whole console battle is over, but all in all, it looks like the next few months will be tough.

A quick glimpse at the Gamespot release calendarwill tell you everything you need to know for this holiday season. In a word, the games lineup is mediocre -- at best. Sure, games like Call of Duty 4, Assassin's Creed, and Mass Effect will be hitting shelves, but only the latter will be exclusive to the Xbox 360. And to be quite honest, it's the exclusive titles that will shape this holiday season.

Microsoft has already done what it had to do -- get Halo 3 out the door and enjoy unprecedented hardware and software revenue. In fact, the release of Halo 3 solidified the company as a major player in this business for years to come. But the main problem with its strategy of releasing the game so early is the lack of true hardware-sellers. Sure, Mass Effect looks neat, but is it on par with a game like Halo, which is the main reason the majority of people bought an Xbox 360 in September? I doubt it.

Overall Xbox 360 outlook for the holiday season: mediocre.

Nintendo Wii

(Credit: CNET)

I expect the Wii to have a huge holiday season once again. With Super Mario Galaxy around the corner, some are touting it as the biggest jump in the franchise since Super Mario 64.

All in all, I think it's safe to say that first-party franchises have always dominated Nintendo consoles, and the Wii is no different. And regardless of what you think about this, it works for Nintendo.

With an expected November 12th release date, Super Mario Galaxy couldn't come at a better time for Nintendo. Not only will it make every Nintendo fan jump for joy, it'll force parents to make a decision -- should I buy it for my kids now or use it as a gift for the holidays? I guarantee the majority of people will choose the latter.

Historically speaking, Mario games have always helped sell Nintendo consoles. And with the Wii hype dying down, Super Mario Galaxy is exactly what the company needs to stimulate sales and add some fuel to the dwindling fire of hype.

Overall Nintendo Wii outlook for the holiday season: strong

Sony Playstation 3

(Credit: CNET)

With Sony's decision to drop the price of the Playstation 3 to a far more affordable level, I believe the company will enjoy a significant surge in sales this holiday season. And while I have some issues with the upcoming catalog of games (it's a bit weak), it's strong enough to justify people spending their cash on the device.

As I mentioned above, the Wii will have a strong holiday season. Along those lines, the Wii will probably be sold out for much of the season and people will be standing in line once again. And for all of those who weren't able to pick up a Wii, the Playstation 3 will be the next logical choice.

Think about it: you're standing in line for a Wii and you're told it's sold out. Knowing all too well that your kids want a new video game console, the affordable Playstation 3 is sitting there for the taking. So, in a rush to get holiday shopping over with, you ask for the Sony console.

Now, will all Sony sales end up this way? Not a chance. In fact, you can probably expect a significant growth in sales from the price drop alone. But it certainly won't hurt that the Wii will be sold out again and the PS3 will not, will it?

Sony made the right move because, well, it had to at this point. Expect to see Sony surging in the numbers.

Overall Sony Playstation 3 outlook: moderate to strong "

Here is the link: Console Holiday

Toughts??? Problems???

What complete BS. They said the 360's is average because Mass Effect is the only exclusive out of the 3 they listedyet for the Wii which has such an AWESOME holiday line-up they name one game...one. This person has no idea what they're talking about.

No, but they only have to take a quick glance at the store shelves to find out which one has the most and least expensive games.

I find it hilarious how since Sony had a price drop, they make it sound like its some extremely cheap console. There is still a $350 Xbox 360, which is cheaper than the cheapest PS3 at $380 (the 20GB at GameStop)

Yeah.. he's wrong about this part. "And for all of those who weren't able to pick up a Wii, the Playstation 3 will be the next logical choice."

Here's wrong for several reasons. 1) Besides R&C and Uncharted, there are really no other big name exclusives come out for the PS3 this year. R&C will sell well, but it's no system selling and Uncharted is an untested new IP. Heavenly Sword and Warhawk are decent games, but neither of those titles are system sellers either, as we know by looking at their sales and the PS3 sales the past month. 2) The XBox 360 has the most quality and quantity of titles on retail shelves. Bioshock, Halo 3 & Mass Effect will easily push XBox 360 sales. That's a given. At $350 for the Premium (w/ Forza 2 & Marvel:UA)and $279 for the Arcade 360, parents will be snapping these systems up like crazy. 3) The PS3 is still the most expensive system out of the bunch. Blu-Ray aside, parents will be buying it for the games, not to watch movies.

Consider cows were screaming a month ago that Halo 3 won't help to sell XBox 360's, this holiday season is going to be owned by the XBox 360 and Wii. Sony's should have kept the 60GB PS3 and dropped the price to $400 and included Motorstorm or Warhawk as a bundle, along with Spiderman 3. I would have bought one of those in a heartbeat.

***********************************8

hes talking about what you get in the ps3 for 400. look yes the 360 has halo and is 50 cheaper but for 50 more you can get a blu-ray. This strategy will win over a lot of people.

jessie5788

No one really cares about Blu-Ray. People are buying the PS3 to play games on it, not Blu-Ray movies. This strategy hasn't won anyone over. If it has PS3 would have sold almost as many units as the Wii by now. The Blu-Ray player in the PS3 is of the lowest quality. Same thing with the DVD player in the PS2. Consumer's know this, which is why they aren't flocking to purchase a PS3 as a Blu-Ray player. I think more people will get a dual-player anyways. I can't understand why anyone would want a Blu-Ray player and then not be able to play HD-DVD movies. :? That's just dumb to me.

This guy is a joke. He calls the 360's stellar lineup mediocore because it doesn't have enough system sellers and exclusives, and then goes on to praise the Wii's lineup by the merit of... one game!? To make matters worse, that one game isn't even the biggest release of the year. Halo 3 has that on lockdown.

Sorry but the "article", not that it should be graced with that title, is total drivel and wish fullfilmet. He mentions some reasonabel titles for 360...but none for PS3? But the outlook for PS3 is strong? He mentions lack of exclusives for 360 (other than Mass Effect), but then fails to mention any PS3 exclusives. He forgets to mention that the PS timed exclusive has now been pushed back to next year, and yet he is talking about sales in the medium term? He deduces that if people can't buy a wii they will buy a PS3, but not 360, and does not explain his reasons. He seems to be pretty much drawing conclusions based on some random statements he makes in his paragraphs...

Is this for real? He starts by saying games is what matters and then claims the 360 will do not so well? It easily has the best lineup out of the 3, not to mention the best library of old games. Heck, I'd go as far as calling these few past and coming months some of the best any console has ever seen, gamewise.

Saleswise I have no idea how this holiday will end up, but if we go by games alone, the 360 will annihilate everything and anything in its path IMO.

The guy forgot one thing. The multiplatform games actually help the xbo 360, as they are 1. advertisd with an xbox logo at the end, implying that they are xbox exclusives, and 2. the xbox pro is still cheaper than the ps3 is, making people want to buy the xbox for the game.

Personally, i just bought a PS3 yesterday, since it has a great lineup coming up over the next 18 months.

This guy is a joke. He calls the 360's stellar lineup mediocore because it doesn't have enough system sellers and exclusives, and then goes on to praise the Wii's lineup by the merit of... one game!? To make matters worse, that one game isn't even the biggest release ofthe year. Halo 3 has that on lockdown.

Gamer556

Only thing real moving units is halo.

Its funny i saw the 360 commerical and they were showing of mass effect, bioshock and halo3. I already know the other 2 can't sell like halo.

not really I think people actually look at games in walmart, gamespot, etc. I think they would notice multiplats for the ps3.

I'm no lemming, but damn, that guy runs under the assumption that you CAN'T buy games that are ALREADY on shelves. I hardly doubt every person who wants Halo 3 already has it, or Bioshock, or Gears of War for that matter. "Video Games sell consoles," he says. Great way to contradict yourself.

x_boyfriend

Exactly...Halo 3 will be one of the top five (or better) best selling games during November and December, no matter how many copies it has already sold. SMG is its only real competition.

The funny part is that Sony keeps dropping the price on their systems. And no one is still buying the PS3. I have to agree with the article and say that the games sell the systems. And right now there is little to nothing worth noting on the PS3.

Why is he judging it by sales? Of course the Wii will sell the best but who cares? The PS3 has the strongest lineup from now until 2008, followed by the 360 and then the Wii which really only has SMG.

People will buy the PS3 because the Wii will be sold out, but not the 360? Well that makes sense. Oh wait. IT DOESN'T. :?Hoffgod

I agree. What a horrible analysis. That guy should be fired from C NET! Its only logical that the 360 keeps on truckin through the holidays. These analysts, just like the other Sony sheeple fanboys, just WANT these things to happen, but it doesnt mean it will...

Of course they can't sell like Halo, but what can?

Bioshock sold really well for a niche market game, and bar SMG, Mass Effect will be the biggest release of the remaining year.

" Expect to see Sony surging in the numbers."

SambaLele

that's to be expected. the price drop + Uncharted, R&C, Haze and UT3 timed exclusive.

it's probably going to sell better than the 360 this november and december.

Still don't get why cows say UT3 is timed exclusive.

Its on pc months before the ps3 version :|

oh yeah haze,Teh awseome Halo 3 killer:roll:

This guy is probably a Cow at heart. Either that or...can you say bribe?

Somehow the Sony misinformation machine (and the puppets that man it) has not stopped people from buying a Wii or a 360 like they is no tomorrow.

Remember when "reporters" such as this one predicted that the PS3 would be the best selling machine by the middle of 07...and that the Wii would end up in last place?:P

I, for one, will be dumping my 360 and picking up a PS3 this holiday season...assuming my 360 is back from the RROD center in time. I can't wait to get rid of that cursed console...too bad I miss out on NG2 though

this guy is on drugs. Games sell the consoles. He doesn't list a single ps3 game but they will do better than the 360 because people can't buy the wii's. must be some really good crack
