360's Facebook and Twitter only for Gold members

GZ: Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360's Facebook and Twitter integration will only be available to Gold members. Hidden in the depths of Microsoft's announcement of an Xbox 360 Elite price cut, we've found some news that we weren't quite expecting. Although the company revealed that access to Last-fm would require a Gold Xbox LIVE membership, there was no mention of the free Facebook and Twitter services.

Don't really care for those services on 360, but that doesn't keep it from being lame.

But I thought gaming consoles were only for gaming, who would want supplementing features? That's for cows lulz

Im confused....Facebook and twitter are only for gold members but then the article says nothing is mentioned about them being only for gold memebers? and that last.fm is the only thing mentioned as to being for gold memebers only?

while i couldnt care less for these 2 additional useless features... been accessing them on PC for a long time and also have the opportunity to access them via PS3 web browser (though its not the best of browsers out there)..

But if they truly make such features available only to Gold members its even a much more stupid idea from MS...

isnt it enough already to have us gamers pay extra in order to play games online, which is something we can do for free on all other systems, cause lets face it and be honest for once, we only pay for XBL mainly to be able and play our games online.. The other extra XBL features are not essential, but simply nice additions..

People get Gold to play online, everything else is just dandy.

Facebook Live looks to be shaping up nicely, it's a nice twist on the traditional facebook. I''m sure if they advertise it more, it will get alot of attention.

I have a sneaking suspicion that MS isn't going to just let it be merely Facebook and Twitter on the 360. Other than a cosmetic integration into the dashboard, the real exciting part is incorporating the Facebook Connect app into SDKs for all devs to take advantage of. Tiger Woods is supposed to allow screenshots to be uploaded right to Facebook. So instead of games like Gears or PGR integrating on their own, there's a connection between games and social networking that any developer can integrate into their games.

It'll be cool to see how this pans out in the next year or so.

I can't see myself using these features. I only go on my X360 to watch Netflix movies and play games.

I've gopt Facebook and Twitter on my PC, on my laptop and I can access it via my phone through the web-browser or the Facebook app!! Same with Twitter. I can access them on my Wii for crying out loud...lol.

Who could say they are surprised by this, if you own a 360 and dont have Gold then you really arent intending to use it for all its got.
